:o Rogue, I agree with you. :D I too don't find Megan Fox all that attractive either. Her eyes look odd to me. (I originally wasn't going to post about this as I didn't want to come across as just a contrarian.)

Truthfully though, my heart is really pinned on Megan Gale being WW. Although she isn't really Amazonian either, she is alot more Amazonian than Megan Fox is ever likely to be, and is IMO capable of being quite gorgeous. :D

The one thing that Gale has against her is that she's 10 years older than Fox but, as long as the film gets made in the next few years, I don't think that would be a problem. Anyway, there has certainly been no indication from either her side or George Miller's side hat she won't be Wonder Woman.

Gale's very attractive, no doubt about it, though she looks drastically different from picture to picture (and its more that just her age). And as near as I can tell, she doesn't have tattoos over half her body so they wouldn't have to airbrush her too much before every scene. :v But, as has been mentioned, she doesn't have much acting experience and is virtually unknown outside of her native country. I really doubt she would be trusted to carry a standalone Wonder Woman movie by herself and for that reason I'm doubtful she'd chosen.

Fox on the other hand is a hot commodity at the moment and I think her star power does count for something. These films have to appeal to as wide an audience as possible to recoup their considerable budgets and oftentimes that means the person best suited for the role isn't necessarily the one who will get it.

FWIW, I think Fox could pull it off. She's shown herself to be capable of playing strong, confident characters and can definitely bring a physicality to the role. She's definitely rough around the edges but in the hands of a talented filmmaker I'm sure that rawness can be properly harnessed.

Yeah, that's true. I can see Warner Bros. re-couping their expenses by filling the seats with slobbering, agaped-mouthed males over & over with Fox in the lead. I just think that she's just okay.

I'll just hold out hope that they find someone a little more balanced with the sexuality and acting chops.

Black Canary maybe since she wears a wig and all but not Diana.

All kidding aside, I can partially see Rogue's point, but just imagine Fox pulling it off with proper coaching and a degree of maturity.

A beautiful young actress is wonderful but an appropriate manner suitable to the daughter of a Queen of Ares must be presented. I recommend watching the 1957 Steve Reeves Hercules film from Italy as a template to all wonders Amazonian. ;)

:)) Don't worry, I'm not dissing TZ (well, I am, but not because I dislike it.) I love TZ. It was one of the greatest and most imaginative TV shows ever created. One of my all-time favourite TV episodes, from any show, was in fact a TZ episode (the one in which a woman wanted to get plastic surgery to look 'norman' only to be revealed that she in fact looked exactly like us), and although I prefer the new version of OL, I will always have a soft spot for original TZ. :D Plus, if it wasn't for TZ, there's a very good chance that The X-Files would never have existed. ;)

Oh please Dan, the new Outer Limits is but a hairy pimple on the arse of the original Twilight Zone (or the original Outer Limits for that matter). Its an unoriginal concept with surprise endings that are never surprising and weak-ass special effects that wouldn't even be adequate for a second rate videogame.

Try watching some of the original Outer Limits like The Sixth Finger, The Architects of Fear, The Zanti Misfits or The Demon With a Glass Hand, possibly one of the greatest teleplays ever made. Just because they're in black and white doesn't mean they're inferior, you know.

This is my actual book that I have had since I bought it new in the 70s; I just brought it to work so when they walked by, it would aggravate them. They've been a little froggy lately with their "matchup theories" and insults to DC characters. :)).
They know how passionately I feel about damaging my books (particularly Neal Adams illustrated ones)so they won't dare touch it but they really want a movie of this already simply for pride.

Actually, I'd like to see what Bruce Timm and Kevin Feigne could do with this as a DTV.

I don't know, when I watched the new Outer Limits, I thought they were wonderful. ;) ALthough not all the episodes worked, and although it has been a while since I watched them, I do remember finding many of the episodes to be delightful, so I guess this is another road on which we must depart ways. :v (How's that for poetry? :D)

Say what you want about my love for Kirsten Dunst from the Spider-Man films, or my fear of Drop Dead Fred or my liking the Dixie Chicks, but never suggest that I have a problem with black and white. Thanks for the comp, Alex; I wish that I had half of their fame right about now. ;%

Clearly you're a Conan fan because Buscema & Smith are famous for drawing him back in the day. Buscema's pencils cannot be rivaled to this day with all of the hotshot talent out there now.

My son loves Jack Kirby's art more than I do...and they share the same birthday too. :D

If it weren't for Neal Adams, John Romita Sr., Jim Starlin & John Byrne, I don't think that I would be trying to do this stuff but I swear that I cannot get this medium out of my system...and I really don't want to. ;)

John Byrne and Chris Claremont are the MAJOR reason my younger sister entered the hallowed halls of comic book fandom on my heels. In those heady days of Uncanny X-men and, deep breath, Alpha Flight! - she literally praised both to the heavens. (but hey, the girl bought Moore's Watchmen before I did :o ;)

That book was beautiful :x . I own a copy myself and other than a few Savage Sword Of Conan magazines, it's the only regular Marvel Conan comic Adams pencilled in that volume. Personally, I found that his early Marvel work looked more intense than his DC illustration.

Of all of Adams works, this one is my most coveted. :x :x :x

Yes, it's one of the best covers ever IMO.

This is just a revamp of the regular Green Lantern comics of the 60s which at the time, were drawn by the late Gil Kane.
As the 70s came around, DC decided to give the character a shot in the arm and brought him into the times.

This book not only won an Eagle Award but it was one of very few comics that tackled alot of social & cultural issues that people could identify with. Hal & Ollie were always at odds with one another being one was a staunch conservative and the other a passionate liberal.

In a way, this comic wouldn't seem dated at all seeing that we still have the same social & cultural issues. :))

Neal Adams, while on this title, is also the creator of Tony's favorite GL, John Stewart. :D {:)

As you can see, not all of Neal Adams' ideas were good. {:)

I must also confess to not being a big fan of the GL/GA crossover stories. I found GL to be realized as really naive and impotent in those book and found the whole premise too quaint. I could never buy into the stories because, quite frankly, anyone with a power ring and a little imagination could have solved most of the problems in about 9 seconds. I give the creative team props for trying to be socially relevant, and while that fit in with Oliver Queen, GL wasn't the right character to use as a foil IMHO.

A legendary artist whose work also graced early Conan. I first learned of his character Blackmark in the secondary pages of the SSOC.

    blackmark.jpg

As you may have already guessed, I'm a fan of Sword-and-Sorcery comics and novels. Kurt Busiek and Cary Nord revitalized my love for the former in 2004.

I really love Nord's pencils for his take on Conan, but his Iron Man was too drastic a change.

    Brett Ratner Commits to Conan
    Source:The Hollywood Reporter November 8, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says that Brett Ratner has weighed two high-profile projects the past few weeks: Paramount's fourth installment of the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise and a 21st century take on "Conan" co-produced by Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate.

Ratner has now made his choice and is in final negotiations to direct Conan, which is aiming for a release in early 2010.

The trade says that Ratner jived to the Conan script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard's original pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner's ideas.

Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of Millennium Films are producing, along with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO Fredrik Malmberg.

Millennium and Lionsgate are eyeing a potential franchise and envision a very R-rated approach in the $85 million budget range. Preproduction is under way for a shoot at Nu Image's Nu Boyana Studio in Bulgaria.

"The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films," Lerner said.

Joel Silver & Susan Downey on Sgt. Rock & The Losers
    Source:Edward Douglas November 8, 2008

    june5_BB20Sgt20Rock.jpg

Earlier this week, ComingSoon.net spent some time in London visiting a location where Guy Ritchie was shooting his new version of Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. as the 19th Century detective and Jude Law as Mr. Watson. While there, we did a bunch of interviews with the producers of the movie, including Dark Castle's Joel Silver and Susan Downey, who updated us on some of the projects they'd been developing with Ritchie which were put aside to do Sherlock Holmes. One of them was a movie based on the war comic hero Sgt. Rock, and Silver broke to us that Dark Castle would also be taking over The Losers.

Silver talked to us a little bit about Ritchie's planned war movie based on Sgt. Rock, which has been temporarily backburnered. "Guy did a great job on the script for 'Sgt. Rock' and I think that when (Quentin Tarantino's) 'Inglourious Basterds' was coming together so quickly, it made sense to kind of jump off that and jump onto this, because it was something that was really different and unique. I loved to think that one day we will make 'Sgt. Rock.' 'Inglourious Basterds' is a war movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it, but it's something that was a direct competition to 'Sgt. Rock' so I felt that we should hold off and do that when we can."

"Those two projects specifically, they still need more work in development," Downey agreed. "I know that Guy, he still has passion for them, but his focus right now is on this. I do believe that if there was a universe where he could be doing them all right now. He would want to, and we haven't jumped off him and looked for other people yet either. I'm not exactly sure what we're going to do, because we love those projects but they have to be done right, which is the other reason why we haven't moved forward even with him, because we've got scripts that were good but they hadn't landed just yet."

Silver also mentioned that he's looking to get on board to co-produce a movie based on the Vertigo comic book The Losers, which at one point director Tim Story was involved in making. "I've always liked that project, it was a competing project with 'Dirty Dozen' for a while, but it didn't happen at Warners, so we kind of took it into Dark Castle, so we may try to make that now. But I hope to do 'Dirty Dozen' one day, too. I always look at these things that there's a lot of time, a lot of movies to make. Sometimes the time is right for them and sometimes you have to wait to make them for another time." (Ironically, as we were waiting for permission to run this story, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Sylvain White would direct, which you can read about here.

    Beyonce wants superhero bounce
    Los Angeles
    November 9, 2008

BEYONCE is ready for a challenge — the pop superstar wants to be the first actress to wear Wonder Woman's famed red, white and blue bathing suit on the silver screen.

"I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?" she said.

Beyonce, 27, says she has met representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline following the massive success of The Dark Knight Iron Man and the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises.

Beyonce's acting career to date has included a comedy role in Austin Powers in Goldmember and two notable music-world roles, the first as a quasi-Diana Ross character in Dreamgirls and as the defiant and heroin-addicted Etta James in the upcoming Cadillac Records.

"After doing these roles that were so emotional, I was thinking to myself, 'OK, I need to be a superhero,' " Beyonce said.

The recent success of sophisticated comic-book adaptations is the main reason for Beyonce's interest, she said, but her focus on Wonder Woman was intensified earlier this year when she saw Lynda Carter's costume from the 1970s television show on display at a museum.

It's not clear if anyone will be able to deliver a Wonder Woman project any time soon, however.

The heroine, who debuted in 1941, is by far the most significant superhero who has yet to reach cinemas. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and the Fantastic Four have all had multiple bites at the Hollywood apple. LA TIMES
