    Nice encouraging review, but...

"Regarding the infamous absence of Chris Cornell’s vocal to ‘’You Know My Name’’ from the soundtrack (the first time this has happened in the 44 year old series) the reasons involve record company business issues. Basically, Chris Cornell is signed to Interscope Records. This soundtrack is released on Sony Masterworks, a different label, simple as that. Word is that ‘’You Know My Name’’ will appear on Cornell’s solo album due out early next year. Get over it Bond fans, that’s just how things work in the modern world."

That's just the most bullsh-t excuse I've ever heard. Obviously pretty much all of the artists hired to sing a Bond theme were on different labels, that doesn't mean the song can't be put with the score. The label loans them out, makes the exception, because it's good for the overall marketability of the artist. There's something else here. It might just be that the track was not finished in time, since we've heard a few versions now. Or it may be that they left the door open for a last-minute change of song altogether - although that's not going to happen. Or maybe Arnold himself is not happy with the song, or the reaction so far to it. I don't know. But it's not about what label Chris Cornell is on.

But I'll try hard to "get over it". 8-)

I absolutely agree. Does this mean that future "Best of Bond" releases will have a glaring absence? That it will feature the likes of Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Madonna and Garbage, but not The Great (sic) Chris Cornell? Actually I'm not so much annoyed as outraged; this strikes me as a shameless ploy to get Bond fans to buy Cornell's album for the song.

I have to say: let the boycott start here. I will happily pay 79p for the song on iTunes; I will happily pay a fiver for the CD single in my local record shop - several times, if they do a DAD and release it with different mixes. I will gladly, and with a song in my heart, purchase the CR soundtrack with the song attached. But I will not buy an album from an artist I have no interest in just because it has a Bond theme on it. That is why I am proud to say I possess no Rita Coolidge albums, no a-Ha CDs, and not a single Lulu retrospective. I may be a Bond fan, but I'm not stupid.

I admit, I own American Life; not because of DAD's presence, but because I'm a Madonna fan. And I should add that prior to buying that album, I had already purchased both CD singles and the song on cassette, plus the soundtrack album. At any time there I could have stopped and said, no, six remixes of the theme is enough. But I was willing to pay good money for them, so more fool me. In this case, however, I am genuinely annoyed, and I am hoping to goodness that this is a real error and the single of YKMN comes out next Monday. Otherwise, David Arnold is getting all my soundtrack related monies this year, and Chris Cornell can frankly whistle.

    Sh1t :#

Even with Cornell being on a different record label this makes no sense ?:)

Can't say I want his album either, but at least the song will be released as a single :)
