The bombers with the straw hats

This is more for serious followers and people who have read the novel. Early on in the novel some assassins were hired wo kill Bond by throwing a bomb at him. Things went pair shaped, but what I was wondering is if it will appear in the final movie. Anyone know?

They should still use it in the future; like so many unused elements from all of the best-known titles, it's unmined gold...

I am disappointed that this scene did not make it into the film. Especially with the renewed emphasis on the literary basis of the story, I had hoped the scriptwriters would appreciate and make use of this clever, memorable sequence.

In the novel, the scene excellently served its intended purpose: to show that these guys meant business and were not to be taken lightly, and that Bond was in real physical danger. In the film, that purpose is fulfilled otherwise, through the various action sequences included in its stead.

However, the scene has more value than merely upping the danger level of the plot. It is a clever sub-story in itself, one of the many found throughout the novels that make Fleming so great. The red and blue camera cases are an awesomely 'Bondian' touch, and I would have loved to see even an updated depiction of the muddled attack in the film.

The nature of the mishap, when revealed, also shows the audience the fine line between life and death in the "game of Red Indians" Bond, his allies, and his adversaries are playing. The baddies' mistake has the feel of real-life, which conveys the real-life theme of fallibility.

On a lesser note, I liked how the scene offered a little insight into the Mathis character, and I have fun contrasting the crowd's bewildered crowding toward the door with Mathis's immediate launch through the former window to check on his ally and friend.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, I find the scene genuinely exciting. Like Loeffelholz, I would love to see this scene used in some form in a future cinematographic outing...

A statement from Craig might reveal that the scene was in fact included in an early draft: Essentially he said that he nixed a sequence involving a suicide bomber because the film shouldnt be political.

I believe this suicide bomber might have been an updated version of the bombers with straw hats.

Well they are gone but there are 2 terrorist Bombers in the film but they are different from the men in starw hats. However the fate of one of the bombers in the film may be a reference to them.
