Bond After Craig?

Just caught Russell Crowe's 60 Minutes interview and it invoked a thought I had a couple of years ago...hopefully Daniel Craig will want to bow out of the Bond character after a few installments...Crowe would be an all time close second for the Best Bond just behind Connery of course. This may have already been discussed...first timer to ajb007.

No, when Craig leaves, the best move would be to choose a lesser known actor who has the potential to grow in the role, Connery-style.
"Better make that two."
Craig have singed for three movies, the second in 2008, the third maybe in 2010...we have 4 years and a lot can happen in 4 years
I'm not sure who I'd go with right now. Alex O'Loughlin looks the part, but I haven't seen him in anything yet, so I can't give the acting verdict. Butler and Bana would make terrific Bonds, but they will be about as old as Craig will be when he gives it up, and whether or not they will maintain the proper appearance I've described above (which they have no) remains to be seen. People are going to toss around Henry Cavill, but I still think he'll be too young at that point. Wait until he gets in his 30s. Bale would be terrific, but he's already Batman, so that's out. Goran Visnjic is an interesting prospect, but I don't know if the Croation thing will fly.
Found the above article today on Askmen.com. They reckon DC's tenure as Bond is as good as done (only they don't know he is signed on to do more) and are ready to suggest some replacements. Let's see:
5. Ewan McGregor
Not a rubbish idea, in fact I like him for the role. However, I think he would bring a much more Roger Moore flavour to the role with a playful grin and a wink after murdering a henchman rather than a bloody cheek. Possible, but not probable.
4. Joshua Jackson
WTF? Are you kidding me. You know some guy at Askmen.com just pulled this one out of his arse. Joshua Jackson is a terrible idea, and American. Ridonculous.
3. Chiwetel Ejiofor
Although I loved this guy in both American Gangster and Children of Men I don't think he is Bond material. Particularly because I am a Bond lit. guy who wants to keep it as close as possible to the source material, and sorry to say, but Fleming's Bond wasn't black. However, I would prefer a Anglo-African over an American any day.
2. Jon Hamm
Okay, you finally are getting some credit after your no. 4 suggestion. Yet, I think he is just too beefy and also will continue as the Don Draper for a while etc. I don't think he is crafted for the role and is just too large. DC was pushing it in CR, Jon Hamm you are just too much beef (or should I say pork? :v)
1. Clive Owen
Other than the fact that he has denied this role thousands of times, it's a good suggestion. I was one in the Clive Owen lobby before CR and I think he could've pulled off the direction that Babs and Wilson have set for the franchise. However, after Craig's tenure is over, will Owen still fit the bill. Unless he loses his opportunities to make the movies he wants to, he is never going to be Bond, keep hoping everyone.
Now, some of the comments from readers were even funnier. Jason Statham, please. Christian Bale, heard it before. Matt Damon, excuse me, have you seen Bourne no one in their right mind would cast him as Bond, just because you play one secret agent doesn't mean you can play them all! No respect. Robert Downey Jr., I just don't think so, Tony Stark is the most action he was made for...or Tropic THunder ). What about Nicolas Cage, well other than the balding...bugh. Mark Walhberg, Jimmy Bond and the funky bunch here we come. Matt Damon....really?

As do I. He's maturing out of those wet puppy looks as time goes along so that's a plus. Certainly who I'd choose 3-4 years down the road. {[]

Also though Paddy Considine would have made a good James Bond ... again by the time Craig finishes... he will be too old...
its hard.... to project an opinion 7 years down the line....
I love Daniel Craig as James Bond hes fantastic...
but the person whom I think could take over from him as Bond would be ...
However JOHN SIMM from Life On mars Gets my vote for the next James Bond after Daniel Craig

Dannyboy has at least 2 more films to do and I am sure, that he will poker out 1 or 2 more contracts.
And then it is very likely, that EON pulls out a surprise-candidate like DC has been for Casino Royale.
Or, who would have put money on him before the final 5 have been determined?
But one thing is sure:
If Russell Crowe ever gets the job, I am off the James Bond community... {:)
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
True dat!
Sorry, that's for all the 'P-Diddy for Bond' fans out there. I'd be out for either him or Crowe.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Promise!!!!!! If you make statements like that he's bound to get the job
Which means he probably won't get it. :007)
..but even I am off the community, I will still keep on reporting your banter to the mods
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I hope not.
Probably depends on the third film Maybe not, as long as he's still having fun and has some interest in the character. He doesn't strike me as someone who'll stick around just for a big payday...but I might be wrong.
My (serious) guess: he'll do four...five max. But if he stays until age 56, which isn't unprecedented, he could well do more than seven :v

Based upon tea leave readings, weather forecasts and wishfull thinking... I think that Bond 23 will be where it all comes together in the perfect package. My reasons are : no writers strike which by Daniel's admition meant that QOS was being finalised 'on the hoof', Daniel has truly settled into the role (even fans and critics that did not 'go for QOS' - myself included don't in the main cite Daniel as the problem) and I think he will bring the cool and charming elements into very controlled play in 23.A new story arc not connected to CR opens up exciting possibilities.
I also think that if 23 is as good as I hope it will be that Daniel will bow out as he is an actor of integrity who I don't think will just stay around for the pay day. Once he has achieved what he wants I think he'll go.
I have grown to admire his Bond rather than truly like it as I still feel that it is to his great credit that he has achieved so much whilst being for me at least somewhat miscast ( a lesser actor would have tanked)
Whoever we get after Daniel I hope that the convincing toughness reamins in place. I'm happy to say that I have no idea who should or could be next, which is what makes it so exciting I have not seem enough of Cavill to judge, but he looks to be a bit of a pretty boy to me, but who knows, as before CR I thought casting Danilel was lunacy, but I dont now.
In regard to the question, I would love to see Ewan McGregor take the role at some time. Much as I am enjoying Craig's movies, I do feel that when he is done we may be ready for a more suave, charming and witty Bond again. Im not saying light, but McGregor could pull off being a dangerous mother with a glint in his eye. Put that style in the DC world of Bond writing and realism and you would have an interesting take. The Scots grit of Connery with a dash of Moore charm anyone?
Welcome to AJB {[]
I cant agree with you about McGregor though. I just dont see him as physical or dangerous enough for Bond. I think he would be very much in ' The Jolly Roger' mould, which for me would be a retrograde step.
I cant see Robert pattinson playing Bond, maybe once he reaches 30-something. but at the moment hes strung up with Twilight and without the vampire make up doesnt really look like he could be a decent 007.
