Is Daniel Craig Wearing The 42mm or 45mm Planet Ocean??

I'm thinking of getting one but can't tell which size is worn in the movie.

Does anyone know for certain?

Regards,

Konrad

Unfortunately the official web site doesn't actually state which size is worn in the movie which is frustrating. Several people on the WatchYouSeek Omega forum have stated the 45mm but offer no proof.

The Limited Edition Casino Royale watch is in 45mm and aprt from the oo7 hand and caseback, is the exact watch that Craig wears in CR, it says so on the COA. There, that should be proof enough {[]

    (Hi Dell)

    Yep, 45mm...

    planetocean_sand.jpg

    2900.50.91

The other watch he wears in CR is the 41mm (Full Size) Seamaster Model 2220.80

Both my absolute favourite pieces in my Bond collection. :v

Note, the Limited Edition (with '007' second hand) is not worn in CR.

    kinda for obvious reasons.

He wouldn't be much of a secret agent if he's wearing a watch with his code name on it xD

It's been confirmed as the 45mm in both CR and QOS. The Omega Boutique on Bond Street provided the Omega watches to Pinewood at that time. I was curious about this issue too so I Emailed them and they confirmed it was the 45mm case in both films. Here is the reply they sent:

    Dear Sir

Thank you for your enquiry. In both films the 45.5mm model was used, in Casino Royale Daniel Craig wore model 2900.50.91 on strap and in Quantum of Solace he wore model 2200.50.00 on bracelet.

    Kind regards

I believe this to be a simple case of mis-information. The proof is in the pudding and the pudding will be served later this month when the QOS DVD and BlueRay discs are released later this month. The 45.5 was featured in Casino Royale with the rubber strap but the watch featured in QOS was the 42 on the metal bracelet. Mark my words this is DEFINITE.

I ask those who purchase the BlueRay discs to bear this out for me. I am 100% certain this is the case. The QOS watch is visibly smaller than the CR PO and it has a coin bezel edge as opposed to the wave pattern featured on the 45.5. This was plainly evident on all photos I saw and when I saw the movie at the theater.

I've said this all along and I stand by it. Waiting for those BlueRay discs fellas.

I'm with you on this Shatterhand. 42mm in QOS, 45mm in CR. As you say, quite a marked 'visible' difference between the two watches, and the bezel detail will be the clincher.

I think, that we are mixing films here:

The 45.5 mm info was regarding CASINO ROYALE. This thread is from 2006!!

In QoS it's the 42 mm and here is a broad discussion with 20 pages:
    http://www.ajb007.co.uk/index.php?topic=29511&cpage=20

    (and I love Asp9mm being wrong with the SMP :)) :)) )

    And here is Omegas confirmation:
    http://www.omega.ch/index.php?id=967

    2201.50.00 = 42 mm

Bondtoys , its an old thread, but had been revived when someone had info from Omega on Bond Street that is obviously wrong. Shatterhand was just pointing this out.

    email from today:

    Dear M.H.

Thank you for your email, unfortunately we do not have internet and so I have been unable to open the link. However after further investiagtion into the matter it does appear that the watch in fact is model 2201.50.00 and I was originally misinformed.

    Kind regards from England.

    45.5mm on rubber strap
    42mm on bracelet

    NOT 45mm for both!

Well, I guess that settles it. 45.5 on rubber in CR and 42 w/ SS bracelet in QOS...So that begs the question: Which watch do you prefer? 45.5 or 42.

My personal preference is the 45.5 on the rubber strap. I only have 7 inch wrists so I wasn't sure I could pull off the 45.5. The first time I tried it was on the stainless steel bracelet and it did seem too big. However when I finally found it with the rubber strap it had a whole different fit and I had to have it.

It's funny because the face of the 42 seems to be better balanced than its big brother but I don't like the coin edge on the 42. However, the wave pattern on the 45.5 is a work of art.

I think they chose the 42mm version for QOS because the smaller version would look better with a suit.

Remember that when we saw the 45.5 in CR on the rubber strap it was in a utilitarian fashion in the field. You certainly couldn't have Bond where a rubber strap with his suit or tux.

Perhaps this should have been the start of a whole new spin off thread but which one do you prefer and why?

I like the big 45 with the rubber strap. I think it is iconic because of the way Daniel Craig was introduced as Bond. It's sort of like the Madagascar shirt. The big 45 is also evocative of the "big crown" Rolex that Connery wore in DN and FRWL on the crocodile strap. To my mind it is more important than any of the other Omega offerings including the ones from the Pierce Brosnan years.

Well, I think it has to do with Daniel Craig's portrayal as Bond. It's the same thing for Connery, I think it was his portrayal as Bond that made us want his watch. In CR Daniel Craig burst on the scene in a new and different way as Bond. DC made Bond his own and the big PO was a part of that. The big PO on the rubber strap looked as rugged as DC's Bond was.

I agree with DG in regarding the big PO to be the gold standard for Bond Omegas. I like the parallel you drew to Connery's first Rolex as well.

I agree with Shatterhands, and others, that the rubber strap 45.5 is THE iconic JB watch for the DC Bond..however, I have the PO 45 on a bracelet for the very reason that Shatterhands points out, ie. Bond would not wear a rubber strap with a tux or smart suit, so to my mind the bracelet version is a good compromise because you get the big size rugged watch from CR and you can wear it with anything, as in QOS.

Plus, you can swap out the bracelet for the rubber strap if you so desire.

You're welcome. Although the Omega PO rubber strap is not cheap, it's a lot cheaper than buying a whole new PO. Invest in a spring pin removal tool and you can sport the CR or QOS look at will.

    Mantis,

    Try here:

    http://www.westcoastime.com/watchtools.html

There is more than one type, plus other tools. Ebay should have them too. A spring bar removal tool should work wth any watch.

To switch the band no special tools are needed. All that is needed is a small flat head screw driver. Which are fairly cheap from a hardware store.

Well, if you love your watch without scratches and hear to someone, who has been replacing spring pins for years, go for a good remover with a fine end and a wide end like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/2-pcs-Spring-Bar-Remover-Forked-Replacement-Watch-Tools_W0QQitemZ260371678732QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260371678732&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Screwdrivers are usually used by the boutique ladies, who have no idea about tools and watchmaking :D

I think, that Flume does also exist in the US. {[]
