Trust me, MNL, I'm more than happy to let it die a natural death. As you know, I think the woman behind the site is nothing short of a lunatic, and I sincerely hope she gets help. However, I do think we need to rebut that group from time to time, since, in the past two or three weeks, we've had people come to AJB and report what they've seen on that unmentionable site, thinking it's the truth. All should know that we are the bastion of truth!
As people have been reporting to AJB what they have seen at CnB thinking it's the truth. In this case I do feel you are perfectly entitled to put the record straight.
Having said that, I would have thought by now with all the publicity etc, that people would be able to see CnB for what it really is.
You sound like Fox News . Just kidding! After that crazy "ONLY PIERCE EEEZ BOND!!!" tirade, I'm almost tempted to make CnB my homepage, just for a daily giggle.
OK, back to the numbers. On December 7, CR took in a respectable $1,024,161 in American theaters, bringing its U.S. total to $120,093,875 and its international take to $315,669,158. Also, the BoxOfficeMojo calendar for CR's first three weeks (in America, that is) is, as a certain Mr. Bond once said, quite revealing:
13 days in the #1 spot, and 8 days at #2--and CR has never once made less than a million dollars a day, something that isn't true of any other film in current release!
Some news from down under. According to Variety, Casino Royale's opening day gross in Australia was $1.15 million which represented the best opening day for a Bond film in that market.
Have to say that's amazing news about Bond in the UK; more money in 3 weeks than in DAD's entire run? I think the word is "phenomenal", and I couldn't be more pleased.
Someone mentioned that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 is the biggest film of 2006 in Britain. How long before CR overtakes it? (And can it do it before the end of the year?!?)

It was me who mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which totalled (According to BoxOfficeMojo) over $98 million in the UK. I think it will be a tough ask for Casino Royale to overtake that figure by the end of the year.
Pirates of the Carribean took £26,716,426 in the first fortnight and Casino Royale took £27,933,800 in the first fortnight. So £1.2 million up on dead mans chest. But Dead mans chest took £51,735,498 in total. So it would be difficult but possible for CR to beat it before the end of the year, especially with the Christmas holidays maybe bringing in more viewers.
Speaking of boxofficemojo, they really ought to get rid of their resident film critic Scott Holleran. Remember, this guy is one of only 5% of critics who gave CR a bad review (how embarrassing!) and I see now he has given a great review to Blood Diamond, a film that has received mediocre reviews elsewhere.

Just because he doesn't agree with the heard does not make him a bad critic. Most of what I have heard about Blood Diamond has been very good.
Perhaps unsurprisingly. Casino Royale's run of twenty one consecutive days in the top two position's in the US has ended. Mel Gibson's Apocalypto topped the box office with an estimated figure just below $5 million. CR drops down to fifth with an estimated $2.6 million, still very respectable and remains on course for $150 million plus overall.
Friday's estimates according to BoxOfficeMojo.
Apocalypto $4,950,000
The Holiday $4,400,000
Happy Feet $3,075,000 - Overall US Total $128,103,000
Blood Diamond $2,675,000
Casino Royale $2,635,000 - Overall US Total $122,729,000
I wonder if Apocalypto will have the kind of legs CR and Happy Feet have. I'm not that interested in it, although I find Mezoamerican history and culture fascinating; the rap on it is that it's as gory and blood-soaked as Gibson's other films, but without any redeeming social commentary. Likewise, I've heard Blood Diamond gives lip-service to a serious political problem but is really just an average action film. I'm not sure that either film will be a crowd-pleaser. The Holiday, though, is another story. . .
I wonder if Apocalypto will have the kind of legs CR and Happy Feet have.
I doubt it. My guess is that once the novelty appeal wears off, Apocalypto's numbers will plummet. CR will probably stay in the top five through the holidays. At least that's my guess. We shall see.
BoxOfficeMojo's new estimates are out. Interestingly, after putting CR at #5 for Friday, BOM estimates it's been #4 on Saturday and Sunday, following Apocalypto, The Holiday, and the penguins, and beating out Blood Diamond. BOM puts CR's U.S. totals at $128,894,000 (it's getting close to earning back its costs here alone) and the worldwide take at $324,469,283.
I also had a look at BOM's top-earning films of the year (in the U.S., of course), and CR is now at #12. Also, over on RottenTomatoes, Casino Royale is listed as the ninth highest reviewed film of the year. Still, I think that the listing is a little skewed, since, of the films rated higher than CR's 95%, only The Queen has had a fairly high distribution and a substantial number of reviews. The rest are fairly obscure movies with no more than 60 reviews.
In terms of box office, absolutely a good year for Bond. For sure, better than I was expecting. An $8.8 million estimate is very respectable for any film on it's fourth weekend of release. Down approx 40% from last weekend. If CR can hold on to that 40% drop for the next couple of weekends it may yet challenge DAD's gross of $160 million.

All in all, a good year for Bond!
Just for point of reference, Blood Diamond was in 1,200 fewer theaters than CR. Blood Diamond's per screen average was almost double of CR. Of course, Blood Diamond is opening this weekend and CR has been out for a period of time.
I saw Blood Diamond this weekend and thought it was an exceptional film. The performances are all good, especially Djimon Hounjou as a man in search of his son. Not sure why it wasn't rolled big like most other films. I don't understand these limited release films.
As for CR it is definitely a hit, no matter how you spin hit.
If a studio doesn't think it's gonna be a big hit, then they don't spend the money on the wider release. BD's take seems to merit it's more limited release, IMO. I imagine if it had BORAT-type numbers its first weekend, they'd shuffle it onto more screens. It didn't, so they most likely won't. I liked LAYER CAKE, but I can see why Sony didn't book it like POTC2's release.
CR on the other hand, now that's a very good wide release film, and showing some decent legs even. A solid hit, Barry, agreed.
CR made AU$1,427,000 on its opening day in Australia; the biggest ever opening for a Bond film in Australia.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
BOM finally has some real numbers for the last weekend. CR actually did a tad better than was estimated: its totals in the U.S. are now $129,020,082. It's the second highest grossing Bond in the U.S. behind DAD's $160 million (I know, I know, inflation adjustment and all that). The film's worldwide totals now stand at $375,530,909--and it hasn't even been out for a full month!
Happy Feet edged out Casino Royale at the weekend. Now, where have I heard that before? This time it's at the UK box office. The difference here is that Happy Feet is in it's first week of release while CR is in it's fourth week.
According to Screen International.
Happy Feet £2.77 million
Casino Royale £2.74 million - Overall UK Total approx £42 million ($80 million US).
It should be noted that CR grossed over £13 million on it's opening weekend in the UK. We know how to put things into their proper perspective on this side of the pond.

No--the boycott just took a little more time to take effect there!

I see what you are really getting at. We (the Brits) are your puppy's, we always follow your lead.
On a more serious note. Casino Royale grossed $670,308 at the US box office on Monday, according to BoxOfficeMojo. If I am not mistaken, the first single day since it's release on November 17th that CR failed to gross at least a million dollars.

It didn't gross a million dollars on Monday? Poor baby. The producers must be devastated.
