Ladies and gentleman. Bond #6 ROCKS!
Craig. Daniel Craig. What we are looking at is the the first actor who, in time, may even challenge the great Connery as the best Bond.
Hype? I don't hype when it comes to Bond.
CR is easily the best movie since GE and arguably since TSWLM. More on that later.
Craig was sensational! That craggy, boxer handsome face became more fascinating as the film progressed. A bold choice by Barbara B. (which ignited major criticism...remember that?) has turned out to be the single greatest I-told-you-so in series history.
Craig is a machine.Welcome to 007 land again: ruthless and ice-cold (glorious!). A blunt instrument that will surely shend shivers down the spines of henchmen everywhere. A touch of Steve McQueen with the elememtal force of a Lee Marvin, Craig is everything we have wanted in our Bond (at least for me).
Charming without breaking a sweat, Craig carries himself with a swagger that has not been seen since Connery stalked through TB. Easliy the most dangerous looking Bond ever. He looks almost primeval. Soldier. Mercenary. In a way its as if Red Grant assumed the 007 mantle.
The PTS? Perfcetion. A fantastic opener. The fight in the washroom dispelled all doubts as to Craig in action. Ferocious and vicious. The fight is the best since 007/006. Magnificent! Pierce could handle himself in a clinch...but this guy...I was ecstatic that they hired a man who LOOKS and moves like a killer.Make no mistake, the Bad Boy 007 has returned. Super-villians beware!
A terrific performance on every level. Swagger, menace, a lady-killer, arrogant...this guy owned the camera and then some. Its been awhile since 007 walked onscreen where I felt that element of danger, where anything could happen.
Beleieve me, Bond fans. We will be discussing the nuances of his performance for years. As a debut, it is stunning, only Connery's can compare. Craig nails Bond on every level. From his moves to the way he carries himself in a tux at the casino. He's got it all. Craig chooses to play 007 as if he never heard of the previous 007s. It is this arrogance that makes him a sensational Bond. It looks like he already knows he's the world's greatest secret agent.
For a Bond-fan (and action junkie) who has always believed the most important ingredient in choosing a Bond is in how well he handles the action...Craig is a Bondian gift from the heavens. With all due respect to Roger, Dalton and Pierce, this the best Bond on the move since Connery and Lazenby.
What stunned me, though, was his performance. No one, not even Dalton, dared to make 007 an ice-cold killer. This is a 007 with a ...very...cold...heart. Unqustionably, a *******. Totally Fleming in tone and mood, his performance is rough around the edges, the way Bond was in the book.
The torture scence is an an instant Bond classic. Bravo to Martin Campbell in not toning it down. Craig and Mikkelson are brilliant.(Never mind Bond standards, I'm talking world-class acting here, folks). Fleming would be proud.
Craig is a lady magnet (prediction: Craig coming out of the surf will be a major point of discussion for years) but he handled himself wonderfully with the intimate moments...without a trace of sentimentality.
Of course, this is just the first impression. Moments and details will be discussed in due time.
The future looks glorious! Congratulations to Barbara B. and Michael Wilson for rolling the dice and looking like geniuses. (To all the Craig nay-sayers I say this: I will boast about the fact that I am on record predicting Craig will be a winner. Why? Because I believed that Barbara B. had the same gut instincts about Bond as her mother, Dana, did in 1962. Cubby asked Dana about Sean as 007. Her response? That's Bond. Like mother, like daughter.)
Well, it was a long four year wait. CR is a winner all the way. Bond is back in style and, more importantly, we have a new Bond that not only will define his era...he will usher in the next wave of Bond adventures with absolute assurance. Its almost too good to be true. I haven't felt this charged about the series future since I walked out of GE in 1995.
Happy days are here again, Bond fans.

I actually think CR blows GE to smithereens, and is the best since 1969's OHMSS. It's not only cool, but fun to be a Bond fan again.
We're still very close to the event, chronologically speaking; the full magnitude of this won't be realized until we've all moved a bit further down the road...
In the rear-view mirror of history, Craigger and CR will loom large, IMRO.
"I am not an entrant in the Shakespeare Stakes." - Ian Fleming
"Screw 'em." - Daniel Craig, The Best James Bond EverTM
How DARE you take the name of GoldenEye in vain?
I thought PB was a great Bond, far more than the "parody" he is sometimes accused of being, but CR as a Bond film is 1000 times the movie GE ever was.
And, yes, Daniel Craig absolutely ROCKS in it.
:007)
I also congratulate Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson. As far as I was concerned they rolled the dice when it wasn't necessary. For sure, changes were required after DAD, I was anticipating something like FYEO after MR with Pierce Brosnan as 007. I certainly was not anticipating a re-boot with Daniel Craig as 007. Believe me, Casino Royale was going to have to be seriously good for me not to wan't them arrested like Michael G is in the film.
It's so weird to be hearing people say that "Craig is the best Bond" or "This is the best Bond movie ever". But I might agree! It's all very surreal at the moment. I keep thinking I'm going to wake up.
Maybe not every time, but what's a guy to do when Eva says it's perfectly formed? It's an invitation to give it a quick glance. Strictly for purposes of comparison, of course ... ;%
To think of all the discussion over the years discussing Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman, Ewen McGregor of Eric Bana(?!?!?) and every other actor mentioned...what a pleasure it is to realize that not only is CR is success but that the relatively unknown actor they've chosen is so good he is already being compared to Connery.
Its all too good to be true...I keep thinking I will wake up and find Hugh Jackman or Robbie Williams in a tux.
A new 007 that is not only good (as Pierce was) but SERIOUSLY good...that fellow Bondians...calls for a Dom Perignon '53.
And how about a toast to Barbara B. who, lets face it, is the one who chose and believed in Craig when everybody and his brother told her she was crazy. It looks likes she learned well from Cubby. So well, that she chose a man that , in theory, her father would not have chosen. THAT is a gutsy decision...and what a good producer is all about.
With this one move, Barbara B. has now laid claim to the series and all power to her.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the Aston Martin of Bond sites. All opinions concerning 007 are respected by the most knowledgeable Bond fans on the planet...so there is no need to apologize for the length of your post.
I came from the old Dr.No school of dinner conversation etiquette. Which means I enjoy good talk. However, shorthand dialogue and sound-bytes are two of the realities of the 21st century. What did Bond say in GE?
"That's the problem with the world today. No one takes the time for a sinister interrogation. Its a lost art."
So, Vesper, your two cents is always appreciated.
"World domination. Same old dream."
