Shush, she knows nothing of this ;)

If you want to put together a few questions concerning Bondtoys and his vastly overrated sausages, I will get him to answer them. Please be specific though and preferably closed questions, otherwise considerable rambling will ensue.

    God help us...

Interesting - Mr Deaton seems to have suffered an Orwellian purge.

I think we all did. Everything he wrote has gone, shame, a great deal of info was in those posts.

    Nothing that I'm aware of.

Most of us know about the spat he had with another member, seems like he has decided to leave. I hope he changes his mind and returns.

Just google "Dell Deaton" and you will come to his webpage. He did not reply on my emails, but I hope, that he's still reading this on AJB.

I guess I missed this one. But by going over the preceeding posts (with missing posts) it appears that mister Deaton proved he was not the watch guru he thought he was.

To be honest, from a new Omega watch owners point of view I found his posts invaluable. I too hope he will return. :'(

I found the linking habits a bit disturbing and I have told him that privately and I have also told him, that I found some of his info very valuable, which made him very valuable to me.
I would have hoped, that others, who had problems with him, would have done this also privately, I assume, that that's what private messaging is for.

What is so difficult to cope with other's different opinion , we all share the same passion here and I feel really sorry, that there seems to be the need to kick back now, that he's not here.

I agree entirely with Donald on this matter.

Donald and Dell are passionate about watches, especially Bond watches. The altercations between them was inevitable and eventually constructive in getting to a definitive answer. I myself had disagreements with him about Bond watch history, we all learn from these things. Donalds knowledge about vintage timepieces and Rolex in particular is excellent, well researched and unsurpassed. Dells enthusiasm and intricate ways of recording minutaie was also well regarded as was his ability to get real scoops ahead of official announcements, sometimes by months. People that wound Dell up just because of his way of doing things was pathetic, and taking a dislike to a man just because of his way of doing things is juvenile at best. Bondtoys, Sir Miles and I communicated with Dell outside the forum frequently and found him charming and not at all self-obsessed.

This board will suffer from his lack of input. Enthusiasm should be encouraged, not quoshed.

It's no secret that I was not particularly enamored with Mr. Deaton. I certainly did not start out that way, it was a gradual distaste that built up over time. However, I certainly did not wish him ill. I am only speculating at what caused him to go. But what I do find jevenile and very telling is his decision to erase all of his posts. Like the child who did not get his way and packed up his toys to go home. Anybody have any information on this?

I wasn't having a go at you in my post DG, rather the certain others that would go out of their way to be obnoxious to him, both in PM's and in posts. You'll find it was the very extreme PM's and emails that drove him to leave us. These are way out of line and personal, rather than just a disagreement on watch knowledge. I personally wouldn't have deleted all of the posts, but I can go some way to understand why he did it.

It's understandable in this world that certain people form warm "Bonds" and others don't. Some people's personalities mesh while others don't. I never got to be freindly with Mr. Deaton because I felt that he constantly attacked the information I provided even when I could show documentation. It was as if only he could be the voice of knowledge concerning all things horological.

Nevertheless, the spirited debates managed to air certain things that perhaps forum members did not know. For instance, the Connery/Bond Submariner was not a brand new watch when Connery wore it in 1962's Dr. No. However that information is now gone due to the "Orwellian purge".

I don't think people should leave AJB just because of dissagreements. Perhaps Mr. Deaton will come back after he decompresses. It does not matter to me one way or the other, but to some of you it does. I enjoy this board and most of the people on it, and so for those of you who miss Mr. Deaton I hope for your sake he does come back.

Although I agree with most of what 006 has said about Mr. Deaton, I did not express it. Had the tables been turned, how nice would Mr. Deaton have been to me in my absence? Think about it.

Please please please 006 leave it! Take comments like this to private messages or don't get into an argument!

No one wanted Dell to leave, it's a shame he has decided to in this way. But lets get on with discussing ~ to keep on topcic!

Seriously though I don't believe that this is a polite way to talk about a person, or more argue about your views of a person. Everyone likes different people, one of the disadvantages of the web and a forum. You can't select those members you like and those you don't. You have to live with everybody. It really is a great shame that Dell decided to blank his posts and leave, unfortunatley it's his choice. The last thing we want is ajb the bully site. Everyone takes things differently as we all know.

I will remove certain posts if this continues in such a negative, argumentative way (I don't need to name any names!).
