I'd go a step further, Asp9mm. I'd say that Rolex saved an industry. They stepped up to the plate with advertising investments that positioned watches as a prestige item, and craftsmanship as something to respect.
Indeed watches could easily have been made obsolete by the mass use of mobile phones. I think to a degree it has made watches less popular.

If I could have any Bond watch, it would be Lazenby's Rolex pre-daytona chronograph. That, to me, is probably the most beautiful watch ever created.
When it comes to watches, I've always preferred a clean minimalist design; I've never cared for watches with multiple dials, buttons, windows, and overly elaborate straps; that's probably why I've never invested in an Omega or similarly engineered watch. Some of them are so big and heavy you feel like you're carrying a wristweight.
My everyday watch is a simple Fossil with a blue face, no numbers or dials and a straightforward stainless steel band. I'm thinking of picking up a Movado because they also adhere to that clean, minimalist design.
So, keeping to that tradition, my favorite Bond watch would probably be Roger Moore's Pulsar digital watch from LALD: simple face and band and an understated red LED digital display.
im very happy with my 2551.80 i looked at the larger size but it was just that bit too big for my dinky wrist its a replacement of my quartz model, which was also mid size. one thing that did surprise me though (if i read it correctly) was that the quartz model is more accurate, is that right ??????
... Hey, speaking of really good watches, does anyone else love the JLC Reverso that Pierce Brosnan wore in The Thomas Crown Affair?
It's of interest to me primarily out of curiosity. I mean, Brosnan was responsible for the film, had an exclusive deal w/ Omega SA as Ambassador, and he couldn't put the title character into a De Ville or at least something from among the Omega collections?
This is one of my favorites as well, made all the more interesting as the branding appears to have been blanked out. Anyone know why this was? I assume it has something to do with Brosnan's link with Omega and not being able to endorse another company's watch. Similar situation in that the character of Crown was not allowed to appear in black tie/evening wear because of Brosnan's EON contract.
Oh, and someone else said they wouldn't wear an Omega or similar because of the thick case and complicated-looking sub-dials. I have a DeVille which must be one of the thinnest, plainest watches of all time. Great watch.
Specific Bond watch? If I could identify the specific Rolex's from the books, I'd probably go for one of those. Anyone know what Fleming wore?

In terms of accuracy, yeah, it's correct that a quartz will always be more accurate. And a digital quartz will always be more accurate than an analogue quartz. It's a matter of electronics and fewer moving parts. By way of perspective, here are some numbers.
you would think the quartz model would be more sought after and expensive than the chronometer in that case wouldnt you, though i suppose a bit more goes into the production of the automatic, after all, its the one they use for the films

This is off topic, so I hope I will be forgiven. Is the correct way to pronounce Omega, O-meh-ga as in the Greek letter or O-mee-ga as in the film? Or does it just depend on which side of the ocean you are on?
