Vesper's 'Love Knot'

Interesting that with all the discussion of wardrobe in CR, there's seemingly nothing about the Algerian "love knot" worn by Vesper.

A variation on a fairly common symbol, it's much more intricate and attractive up close than it appeared on screen and one of the only truly unique props central to the story.

There's a lovely image here with more information to come: http://www.sophieharley.com/casinoroyale

Harley is a good example of just how "out there" EON was thinking with the Vesper character as I would have lumped Sophie with the likes of Vivienne Westwood: sort of monied goth/punk couture and about as far from the world of Bond as you could get.

As a limited commission, it's much more expensive at £1,400 than any of the designer's other lines; with the film a success, perhaps there's an afordable "Vesper Collection" in the future.

I thought it was believable on her character though.

This indeed is something I would love to get my woman. That is a beautiful piece. Unfortunately it may be limited and expensive.

It is as the other post points out. I'm sure you can pick up much cheaper copies. You get what you pay for though. (To some degree anyway)

Does anyone know where could I get a decent replica of the Love Knot? The original's very much out of my league.

    Thanks!

There does not appear to be anything on the market and I don't know if that's going to change: Apparently, even at the current premium price, Harley can't make enough copies to meet demand.

If sales are solid at £1,400, it's hard to guage whether a licensed replica would be forthcoming: Would they sell enough replicas to boost revenue overal (likely the deciding factor) or just hurt sales for the original? Tiffany and some other jewellers have multiple editions of certain pieces at varying price points, but they're signature items they've sold for decades and not commisions with comparatively limited appeal.

When I started this thread, I was going to draw comparison to another necklace commissioned for a film: The "Heart of the Ocean" from Titanic. That one resulted in LOTS of replicas at LOTS of different price points. But that's also a film with record-breaking box office where the love story is far more pivotal and licensees included the likes of J.Peterman; there is precedent but is there sufficient similarity?

I realize that in this instance, the goal is to have the movie version, but if it's just the thought that counts, then the Algerian love knot is actually a fairly common theme in jewelry (I've have a pair of love knot cuff links for years).

I think it was a gift from a former lover, though he was her lover at the time of giving her the gift(if that made any sense).

She's still wearing it because she wasn't over him yet, so when she takes it off, its because shes finally put him behind her.

the message is "I love you." at the time the love knot was given to Vesper there was a mutual love between her lover and herself. just because she discarded it once she fell for James doesn't mean that i expect my lover to do the same. besides, she has her James Bond right here.

**also, where's the evidence/why the speculation regarding Blofeld as her lover? makes no sense to me

Didn't strike me until I read this last Post: If Vesper's "Love Knot" was a gift from a former lover (and one who might well turn out to be Blofeld!), wouldn't giving our beloved-beloveds any version of this be akin to surprising them at Christmas w/ a ring from their ex husband?

    ?:)

I always think this about couples who have We Have All The Time in The World at their wedding. Don't! Stop! She'll get shot!!! :D

I don't see how, as Bond never gave Vesper the Love Knot

I think you have the wrong end of the stick there, _006_.

My wife has already informed me that she wants one - to compensate for the Planet Ocean I bought. You gotta admire womens logic :))

Like asp9mm w/ Sam, I fear that this Thread may be heading me to ban Janet from the ajb007 site.

    You mean she isn't already ? :o

    Shame on you, Dell :D

My wife's not dead yet. I'm okay though, I keep checking for Slapheads driving Mercedes and duck if I see any.

I just bought this brooch on eBay:

    032607272.jpg

It's the right shape and dimensions (around abouts) for the love knot. I'm going to try to alter it over the next few weeks. (I'm much better at altering jewellery than starting from scratch.)
