I think pictures will speak louder than words...

Long, long ago when dinosaurs ruled the earth and Casino Royale had not aired in theaters I, and others, made an assumption about the Persols he wears in the Bahamas based on a handful of pics. We assumed it was the 2244S 505/58 and I received them, with their silver frames, black arms (or temples) and greyish lenses. And all seemed happy in Bondville that night. Suddenly we were treated to a new pair of sunglasses that he would also wear, briefly it would seem, in the movie but Persol put all their press on these so there was no question they were the 2720s. Flash forward till after the movie and Persol states in their press release that the sunglasses that he wears in the Bahamas are actually the 2244-S 834/33 with brown lenses. Oh oh, Ralph! Ah well, A for effort and sure enough with better pictures and some people with eraly DVD copies we see in fact they are brown lenses and PERHAPS brown arms to match but still a gun metal lense, somewhat less shiny than the ones with grey lenses and black arms (by now you should be on your second vodka...long draw on it...now continue). So, being a bit of a completist I ordered the 834/33 and low and behold they do have a brown arm. It is a dark brown but I have been so used to my previous ones that my mind questioned, momentarily the brown arms. But the more I investigate pics the more I agree it should be brown armed. And why would Persol not have this straight anyway. It's a bit of a sting in this community since many of us have purchased other versions but cest la vie, eh? Regardless, lets see a few pictures to express the differences...

Below you see my first pair to the left and the CORRECT pair to the right...

Great pics. I'm going to wait for the DVD to make my decision.

8-) Mantis, I hope, that you don't kill me, but I have another 2 questions regarding the 2244 Persols.
1.Is there any 2244 S version, which is different to the 2244 model?
    2. Does the 835/33 2244 model always come with brown temples, or is it possible that they are also on the market with black temples.

I have the original DVD in hands (The only thing, I have really learnt from the other forum, you have been in trouble with) and after watching the Bahama scenes several times, I could see the following:

    1. the lenses are surely brown
    2. the frame sometimes appear a bit copper (007 leaving the plane) somewhat gunmetal (driving the Mondeo) and silverish (007 talking to M).
In the last 2 scenes, the temples appear to be black to me, but could be also darkbrown.

By the way, I have discovered a small mistake, when the MI6 guy is scanning 007s arm for the freshly implanted chip:

It is the left arm and 007 is wearing the Omega on that wrist, definetly pretty close to the chip. But on the scan on the screen, the chip shows up, not the watch. I would have expected that the metal case would influence the scan in a way.

Just to clarify, I am not in trouble with that other board....I have refused to post because it is littered with young children that have nothing better to do than to use mommy's computer to harrass others. In fact I received a nice PM from the mods etc...but that is in the past. That "other" board is filled with good people but unfortunately the lack of control has spun it into a dark place.

OK, that being said, we will only truly know when the BluRay or DVD tells us BUT it deems there is no brown lense black arm version...it is brown lense brown arm. The brown arm version in person looks so dark almost to look black so in pics and on the movie it must truly look black unless light is coming in from behind. There is a certain leap of faith with collecting these things and some are more certain than others. Your questions are valid and the right ones, my friend.

    Hi Mantis,

Just got one question after looking at your pics, are the arms of the 2244 plastic with metal rims?

Hey, anyone who owns the 2720s, what size should I get? There are two available on framesdirect. Which size did Craig wear? Does it make a difference?

    Thanks.

I got the small size, 57mm, but on one of the sunglasses site it said that it's a matter of aesthetics rather than fit.

The size corresponds to the lense size, the rest of the specs are the same size (obviously taking into consideration the extra width of the lenses).

What I did was measure some of my own sunglasses to give me an idea.

This site gives you an idea on sizing...

On the 'Buy Now' picture there is a 'Sizes Explained' link, that'll give you some pointers.

    Blue

EDIT: the width 57mm is the size of just the lense within the frame, it doesn't include the rim edge of the frames.

I have the LE 2720s, and they only came in size 60. I'm going to guess they are the size Craig wears in CR. But like Bluetone suggested, it's a matter of preference on how large you like the lenses of your sunglasses. Hope this sheds a little more light.

Or blocks a little more, as it were.

Thanks guys. I think if the LE was a 60, I'll get the same thing.

After watching CR on Blu Ray and watching Bond For Real under special features it has been confirmed that the arms are dark brown. Good to go.

Mantis, what was the quality of the blu ray like? have you watched the "normal" dvd version yet...is there a marked difference between the two?
    Never fear the event

Is there a budget version of these glasses? I don't have the Mantis' ability to go to a nearby Target store, as I'm in Italy: home of the Ray-Bans... and they are everywhere.

I'd love to get a version exactly like these, but as an American enlisted man in a foreign land... I don't have the means to afford, or even acquire locally, a pair of Persols.

I don't know anything about a budget version of the glasses, but Persol is more Italian than Ray Ban. Persols were made by Ratti, an Italian company, before they were made by Luxottica, another Italian company and the current maker of Ray Bans. I would have thought it would be easy to find Persols over there as the selection of sizes and colors here sucks.

There's a particular color of the 714 I'd love to try but they don't sell them here, same with any size 49 in the 649 frame, which fits larger than the 714 for whatever reason. I've got a size 52 714 and would love the less cluttered 649 but the 52 in that frame feels way too big.
