BLACK swimming trunks Casino Royale

HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,619MI6 Agent
Hi,

we all know the blue Grigio Perla swimming trunks, but later in the movie, he can be seen on the beach with Vesper wearing a pair of black trunks with white stripe. Although, it is similar in cut like the blue LaPerlas, I doubt, that this is the same model.

LaPerla told me, that the black trunks would then also have a HORIZONTAL white trim (which is not on the black ones in the movie), like the blue ones.

Anyone an idea?

Greetings

In the Bond on Set book, there is a great photo of these trunks. It looks like they are brown, with white vertical stripes on the side, and a thick black trim (on the waistband and on the edges of the white lines).

So, just to add another color into the mix in some pics it looks like a very dark blue, like a midnight...

I'd go for bergundy and black.

Hmm... Perhaps it is brown in the back and blue or black in the front? It looks that way in your photo.

Having the DVD in hands, my wife and me come to the conclusion, that the trunks are black.

There is a brownish insert on the rear, this could be brown or aubergine, or kindof semi-transparent.

Anyone has an idea of the maker?

From the "Bond On Set" book, they definately look like there is some brown colored back to them. Really hard to tell from all photos I've seen of them.

Check the pics in this link.

To me it appears to be the same dark blue as the GPs. Blue front, back, and waist with white sides and partial burgundy back. La Perla also told me they definitely didn't make them. May have to have them done.

    Hi all,

First post and thought I'd chip in. I have been trying for a long time to find out the brand of black trunks he uses. I have the 'famous' GrigioPerla blue ones, but I am quite surprised at how they have got so popular because in the film you barely see them. It's these black ones that are more prominent.

Anyway, from the pictures it is clear that there is no 'one' black trunk because sometimes he is in entirely navy trunks and in that other shot he is in a black pair with white stripe and a bergundy panel.

I almost convinced myself that the black with the white and bergundy panel are actually Speedo's Performance Endurance Black Ardesia. These shorts have a grey panel where the bergundy one is in the photo so maybe they do one with a bergundy panel.

Anyway, I think we may never know the true make sadly. If they are speedo's they will last longer as the fabric is chlorine resistant unlike the Grigio's which will fade incredibly quickly...

I think they're the same one's from the pics I've seen.

These at a glance look to be solid but you can see the white stripe on the side. Also, none of the Speedo brand trunks have an outside drawstring. Maybe wardrobe custom made them as the only brand I've seen with an outside drawstring are the La Perlas. And frankly, I've looked through way too many swim trunk sites lately trying to find these. Who knows? The La Perlas might never have been identified had they not been listed in the book.

I've got a couple of places going trying to get them made. One place directly from my GPs, the other a seller who seems to do a much better copy of the GPs than the awful Kilemas that have been on ebay for a few weeks. I'll keep posted on progress.

I totally agree with ya! I too have looked thru way too many men's swimsuit sites than is healthy! There is nothing out there that matches these shorts to the exact detail, and to be honest, I'm giving up on this particular hunt.

OK, its always the way is it not! when you've given up all hope and called off the search, sometimes ya find by pure accident. After speaking to a friend of mine in the UK purely about business etc (but also a Bond fan!) he informed me, just in passing, that he had found the Black shorts...well,at least found a pair of absolute dead ringers, in exactly the same style as the powder blue Grigio Perla's.. He will be emailing me the pics once he is home from business.

    Very cool. Brand?

Very cool Speedo made in both black and white. Not the same but still nice. Sean Connery wore a pair of similar styled white ones with a belt in . . . 'I Cannot Remember'.

Those are actually kinda cool. Very retro.

I agree, if a gentleman were to wear these on a beach. I think they would look very nice, especially the white ones, and in my view just as stylish as the black ones from Casino Royale.

This is the same guy I was talking to on the last page. He has all the pics so I don't know why they didn't make them correctly the first time.

I also talked to another fellow who bought some of his trunks and said they ran larger than size without much stretch. When he tried to exchange them for the correct size he wouldn't respond. After a few questions about the cut of the trunks as compared to the Grigio Perlas, he stopped responding to me also. Do with this information as you will.

As soon as I can get a spare pair of real GPs, I'm sending them to a lady in the US who makes speed-skating suits to be copied and altered to these trunks. They should be very high quality and hopefully affordable. I'll keep you updated as I get info.

If your a size 32 your better of going for a 34, otherwise you are in danger of looking a bit of a budgie smuggler. The Mrs may like that of course.
