    1) From Russia With Love [30]
    2) Goldfinger [24]+ 1 = [25]
    3) Thunderball [14]-1 = [13]
    4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service [26]
    5) Casino Royale [16]

I still suggest we start adding 1 and subtracting 2, as otherwise it will go on forever!

I'll tell you (and perhaps you'll be happy to hear) that my only doubt in that ranking is OHMSS's placing. I do think OHMSS deserves to be higher than 8th in many respects. Filmically it is hands down the best of the series and Peter Hunt wins my Best Bond director award any day. But I have a profound disliking for those moments in the series in which Blofeld actually appears. (Yes I am one of those weird Bond fans who think that the series is better off without the bald cat-lover; at most, he may be cast as a shadowy creature whose face is never seen).
So, precisely on account of the centrality of Blofeld (and his weaknesses) to the plot of OHMSS, the movie loses precious points.

I agree that Blofeld was best protrayed as the faceless and omniscient presence he was in FRWL and TB. None of the three actors who portrayed him in subsequent movies commanded the the fear that the unseen Blofeld did. While he needed to be front in center in OHMSS, Telly Savalas just wasn't quite on the mark. On the 3, Savalas was the best, but still not the Blofeld I envisioned.
Even back in 1969, I knew who TS was. I would have preferred a relative unknown be cast.

I don't know, I thought Savalas was very effective in that role. He seemed energetic, intelligent, focused and menacing, unlike Donald ("Keel Bond, now!!") Pleasance, who seemed a little too much of a spoiled kid to me, and Charles Grey, who was much too nice and airy-fairy (to me). While I grant that my favorite presentation of Blofeld was in FRWL (the voice, not the actor) I have no complaints about Savalas' performance and what he brought to the movie.

I don't mind if it takes a while-- people seem to be enjoying themselves. I hope people don't start to drop out of it at this point however, as this last stretch may very well turn out to be the most interesting. (I for one want to do everything in my power to get OHMSS in first.)

On the plus one, minus one system certan evil scumbags who shall remain nameless still managed to knock TLD out; it didn't need a change of rules. Yes, it took them a week, but I for one have been enjoying the game and the defences and attacks people have been summoning up. As the fight gets tighter, I can envisage testimonies, pleas, and good old fashioned debate to try and swing hearts and minds - which is what this site is about, and one reason why I love posting here.

Though having said that if OHMSS doesn't win you can all burn in hell. :D

I think Savalas was fine, but after such strong casting in the first 4 movies, I guess I expected just a bit more. I wanted more mystery to the character, something that the already familiar Savalas lacked. But if that's my only complaint, it's fairly minor. I was just glad that the screaming little elf Blofeld that Donald Pleasance portrayed was gone.

Provided that the number of individuals contributing to the game remains consistent, jetset is right in that we don't need to change the +/- rules. With less choices, the plus and minus votes will be more concentrated, and the game should (theoretically) proceed at the same pace.

Sorry about my evil scumbaggery jetset, but Dalton's daylights had to set at some point. ;)

Hmm... I smell a random AVTAK defense because of that statement. ;)

It's come this far, let's just continue 'til completion. My only complaint so far is that Dr No didn't make the final five. But even that disappointment is offset by the fact that seven specific movies in the series exist in the rankings no Moore.

Agreed on your first point. Regarding the second, I also wish Dr. No would have lasted longer. I can't complain though, as all 5 of my favorite movies are still around. :D

Indeed! A strong showing for Dalton and TLD. Nothing at all to be ashamed about (unless of course, you voted against it :007) )

Exactly, Mr. Smythe and darenhat. I'm so proud of TLD that it took 3 Connerys, 1 Lazenby, 1 Craig, 0 Moores and 0 Brosnans to beat it.

{[] To you TLD. According to the results of this game, you're the best Bond film made between the years 1970 and 2005. As the old song goes-they can't take that away from you B-).

I'm with you there. GF is excellent but probably the most overrated(albeit slightly) of the remaining entries.

Thanks, Mr. Smythe. Believe me, voting for TLD and continuing its well deserved long life on this thread was truly a labour of love for me. I get warmhearted thinking it made number 6 on this thread. Evidently, the ajb007.co.uk voters have far better taste than the imdb.com crowd.

Now, time to throw my energy around TB, with OHMSS coming 2nd.
