Bond girl rumour #1 - Australian actress Abbie Cornish linked to Bond 22

http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?itemid=4823

24-year-old Abbie is expected to fly out to Singapore soon to meet with the producers of the movie, including Barbara Broccoli, the daughter of legendary Bond producer Cubby Broccoli, as well as executives from MGM and some of the principal cast members including, of course, Daniel.

When - as is widely expected - she signs on the dotted line, Abbie will have completed a remarkable transformation from small-town girl who grew up on her parents' farm in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, to genuine Hollywood superstar.

Saw her in the movie 'Somersault.' She is talented and beautiful. Sounds like great casting. I think she would work well with Craig as well. It won't be a repeat of the Brosnan/Hatcher pairing, when the two looked like they hated each other.

All rumors at this stage are just that; but, on the off chance that EON really is signing an Aussie actress, could this be a sign that a Bond film might finally be set in Australia?

Interesting. They didn't cast the leading lady for #21 until after principal photography started...and we're still ten months away from cameras rolling on #22...who was rumoured for Vesper at this point before CR?

Ah well...might as well start the list of possibilities here!

Wow the rumor mill is starting all over again, seems like just yesterday we were arguing about the casting for CR. I think we heard about 10 different actresses before the real names were announced. So I will wait before passing judgement. I have never heard of this actress and really doubt a signing would happen this soon.

Could just be her agent/PR people spreading her name around to boost her career.

In the photo, she's got a bit of an Anne Heche thing going on. Might be nice to get a non-European woman onboard.

The above shot isn't particularly good, IMO. The MI6 article has another, where she looks much more 'Charlize Theron'... :x

Yeah, this is a press agent earning his money. Still, it's high time for a good blonde leading lady...

Rumour #1. No doubt, the first of many in the coming months.

I had never heard of Abbie Cornish before this rumour. Therefore, I cannot comment regarding her acting ability or her voice, but she does look quite attractive.

I want to go on record and be the first to say she's ugly. :))

    Let the games begin ...

The big thing for me is: can she act? Good looking women are a dime a dozen in movies. And will the script give her something to do besides relieve the pressures of superspydom for our hero? After Vesper Lynd, I don't want to go back to the stereotypical "Bond girl."

How about the actress who was in 300? She was marvelous, and beautiful.

I see nothing wrong with the newest Bond Girls being both beautiful and talented alike. One quality really needn't be exclusive of the other. These movies are fantasies after all,no matter how realistic they might pretend to be.

She's attractive, but I've seen better looking women. That said. I would have said the same about Eva Green and I thought she was great as Vesper.

As long as the Bond 22 girl is attractive enough to be believably appealing to a guy like Bond, and she possesses the ability to act well. That is all I care about.

We don't need another Christmas -a character best enjoyed with the mute button on.

Cornish can act. She's very good in 'Somersault' and won rave reviews for her performance opposite Heath Ledger in another small, independent film called 'Candy.' She seems to specialise in vulnerable, damaged young women and I think that would make her the perfect girl for Daniel Craig's Bond.

That's good news, John. I'll have to check those films out. I'm not familiar with her. I would like to see more complicated females in the Bond films from here on out, so she sounds fine to me.

(In case anyone misunderstood, I was only kidding about her being ugly in my earlier post -- after all the Danny-Eva stuff I thought I'd make calling the film's principals "ugly" a kind of AJB tradition)

Pretty much the girl can act, and while Id love to see an Aussie girl...without so much as a director hired, I very much doubt that they are giving contracts to actors yet.

Cornish just signed to do Jane Campion's next film, "Bright Star," about Keats and Brawne. Late summer/early fall shoot. Kinda high profile...

    Lena Headey?
    Amen to that.

As for Abby, I'll decide if I approve (!) when I've seen her in something........................... :)
