IMDB Bond rankings...

The IMDB, given the thousands of voters, is easily the best assessment of what the unlettered public thinks of the Bond films. As to be expected CR is right at the top (no doubt because it's so new). I was a little surprised that Goldeneye was ranked the best Brosnan movie (and, alas, not at all surprised that the masterpiece OHMSS was ranked so comparatively low). That being said, apart from some personal touches (OHMSS, TND and MR should be ranked higher; GE, LALD, TSWLM should be lower and LTK and TLD should switch places) it's actually a pretty fair assessment methinks.

1. Casino Royale - 7.9
2. Goldfinger - 7.8
3. From Russia With Love - 7.4
4. Dr No - 7.3
5. The Spy Who Loved Me - 7.1
6. GoldenEye - 7.0
7. Thunderball - 6.9
8. You Only Live Twice - 6.9
9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 6.9
10. Live and Let Die - 6.8
11. For Your Eyes Only - 6.8
12. Diamonds are Forever - 6.7
13. The Man with the Golden Gun - 6.6
14. The Living Daylights - 6.6
15. Octopussy - 6.5
16. Licence to Kill - 6.4
17. Tomorrow Never Dies - 6.4
18. The World is Not Enough - 6.3
19. Moonraker - 6.1
20. Die Another Day - 6.1
21. Never Say Never Again - 6.0
22. A View to a Kill - 6.0

Why would Goldeneye being ranked as the best Brosnan film be surprising? It IS his best.

Not in my estimation it's not.

It's definitely my favorite brosnan film. Infact it would be quite high up on my list of favourite bond films overall.

Did you give up on the Game?

The Game? The Game killed AVTAK first, no way is it accurate. ;)

And to me, Goldeneye is my definition of THE Bond movie. It's my favorite, fast cars, beautiful and dangerous women, a villain with quite a few tricks up his sleeves and hidden secrets of his past, an innovative score and everything! No shock it's ranked so highly, as well as TSWLM. And yes, CR is ranked highly because it's so new.

And yes, CR is ranked highly because it's so new.

And also because it's the best Bond film in nearly 40 years. :)

:)), that was a good one, Lazenby! ;)

I kid of course, you're entitled to your opinions! :D

I suppose it's just a coincidence that every other poll, ranking, survey done on the Bond films places it at or near the bottom as well? :))

As you said: it's a fair representation of what the UNLETTERED public thinks. As for your comment that it's a pretty fair assessment, well I beg to differ... the Dalton movies should be way higher and LLD, YOLT and GE have no place in the top 10.:D

So, for a more LETTERED -- or, shall we say, qualified -- opinion :007) I suggest you take into consideration the opinions and tastes of more committed Bond fans as expressed by the ajb007 community (particularly, by its Dalton-loving faction).

Apropos, a few months ago I worked out a statistical analysis of the favourite Bond films of the members of this forum based on 54 randomly selected lists. Admittedly, the statistical validity of that exercise is questionable, but the results are surprisingly similar to those that emerge from the elimination game.
I think the link should be something like this: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/index.php?topic=28044&cpage=1
    1. Cr, 2. Ltk, 3. Tld, 4. Qs, 5. Ohmss, 6. Twine, 7. Tnd, 8. Tswlm, 9. Frwl, 10. Tb, 11. Ge, 12. Gf, 13. Dn, 14. Mr, 15. Op, 16. Yolt, 17. Sf, 18. Daf, 19. Avtak, 20. Sp, 21. Fyeo, 22. Dad, 23. Lald, 24. Tmwtgg
  • LazenbyLazenby The upper reaches of the AmazoPosts: 606MI6 Agent
That was an interesting list, though judging by our game GF shouldn't be #1. (And for what it's worth I think the Dalton movies are right where they belong. ;% )

But TND is 11th on your list. ?:) Or has it gone up in your estimation and you simply haven't updated your list?

Well, this will probably shock you, but my tastes are pretty mainstream. :o :D While nine of my ten favourite Bond films match this Top Ten, eight are among the remaining ten films on The Game (the two exceptions being TLD and CR), so really my tastes are not particularly extraordinary (if measured against majority opinion.)

I like GoldenEye and consider it Brosnan's best, but ranking it higher than Thunderball, even by a small margin, doesn't seem right.

My tastes on the other hand are very VERY different and interesting. I forget where it was but there was a thread called "Which Type of Bond Fan are You" and I made one called "THE JFF" since none of the ones described me.

No major surprises but there are films that are not exactly where I would anticipate them to be (based on other ranking lists). For example, DAF & TMWTGG are both approx five places higher while TLD & TWINE are both approx five places lower.

I am not one for ranking lists. For sure, I have my favourite's like TSWLM, GF, and least favourite's like NSNA, TND, but there's no way I could honestly rank all the Bond films from 1-22.

Goldeneye is, IMO the only decent Brosnan movie.
Also one of the best in the series. His other three are three of the worst...

I don't understand Live And Let Die being in the top 10. I would rank this one second to last, just barely better than Die Another Day. Moore is pretty awful in this one, the whole early 70's blaxploitation plot, never-ending boat chase scene and ridiculous amount of Chevrolet product placement make this one a big-fat dud in my books.

    Yuck!

On Her Majesty's Secret Service 6.9

It's actually a 7.9 if you account for the disgruntled Connery fanboys.
    14. The Living Daylights - 6.6
    15. Octopussy - 6.5
    16. Licence to Kill - 6.4

I would raise these by 1.0 each. The other ratings, I mostly agree with.
