FINALLY A REVIEW ON PAGE 16 http://www.ajb007.co.uk/index.php?topic=28521&cpage=16
Plenty of rumours surrounding the Walther to be used in the next film. Insiders said it was going to be a compact version written into the script with a new armourer. A likely contender could very well be the new PPS, a small 9mm sub sub-compact about the same size as the PPK, but with more kick and bite.....

It's so ugly it makes the P99C look like a babe, but where sponsership and licensing are concerned, money rules over all.

(I'd just as soon see the new armourer craft some specialized ammunition for the old gun, to compensate for its reduced mag cap---explosive, fragmentation, armour piercing, low-velocity for inside an aircraft fuselage, etc...But that's not going to happen.)
One modern Walther is pretty much like the other, aesthetically...at least this PPS makes sense from a practical standpoint (smaller size). I could live with it.

No way do I expect Bond to carry that thing.
JMO
No. This is far uglier than the P99, the early ones anyway. It also comes with a six, seven or eight round mag, depending on what grip extension/baseplates are used.
The P99 really isn't THAT big. Not any bigger really than a GLOCK 23 or Sig P228, pistols that are carried concealed by the US FBI/Secret Service/DEA all the time. I doubt MI6 will start issuing Bond a new sidearm for every movie unless they start letting John Gardner write the screenplays.

But this isn't an excuse to change every film or two the gun.
The last Walther used the films to market a new handgun was in 1983 with OP featureing the P5, which at the time Walther was trying market to the West German police force.
I don't know if the film actually helped the sales of P5 handguns, espcialy since in the next film Bond was back to using the PPK as his main gun.
Personaly if it were up to me, I would have Bond carry a PPK/S as his conceled carry and backup gun,as it available in both .380 (9mm short standard) with a seven plus one magazine or .32 caliber with an eight plus one magazine.
Thought if the producers and Walther want to give Bond a more modern edge I would go with the P99C.
The norwegian military just signed a contract for the HK 416 to be the next assault rifel of the armed forces. Norway will be the first country to use HK 416 as their standard rifle. Up til now we have used the HK G3, believe it or not! The elite units used Diamoco C8 and HK G36, but most troops used the old hand-held cannon.
Do you think it was a wise choise? I have read the HK 416 is sort of a improved german version of the Colt M4. Is that a OK discription?
Given the difficulty that Bond would have carrying any pistol around the world, he should just scrounge one from the nearest baddie. When driving around home in his DB 5, the PPK should be
nearby.

The official concerned would have it sent to Bond's hotel via courier.
As for handgun and since Bond originally had a Beretta, how about the Beretta Tomcat .32 or the Beretta Px4 Storm sub-compact 9mm?
Ugh. Not the Tomcat! I bought own of my own to replace my own CCW, and the damn thing jams every 10th shot at the range...hardly something I would want to happen should my life depend on the little *******.

like it will be the PPK for our generation.
After my research I am quickly becoming a fan of this new Walther, if the powers that be want to have it in Bond 22 then I say go right ahead.
Got to admit, the more I see it, the more it is growing on me.

Bond is a killer. If the gun is functional, reliable, easy to conceal and above all lethal,
then looks don't enter into it.-{
Of course you are right about functionality is of prime importance when it comes to the real world use of firearms.
I do disagree about firearms not having to be good looking. It is a matter of "style" and it has always been an important factor in firearms design. I wouldn't dare start from scratch by describing early hand cannons, but would ask that you leaf through a good book like Boothroyd's "The Handgun" you will quickly see that style is an important factor in gun design.
Only recently firearms like the Glock have made the lack of "style" stylish. In an effort to make a functional and cheap firearm, all the cuts, scallops and ribs have been omitted and the "mud brick" look arrived. But, no one can argue Glocks work!
Style has always been a crucial factor in the world of oo7, to abandon it with regard to Bond's handgun is the equivilent of having him wear a functional but ugly hair shirt instead of a tuxedo.
The original P99 is a good looking weapon. Dropping it for a creepy looking replacement would be a large mistake IMO. Sadly my opinion is only one of billions...after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Some have reported Eva Green looks like a vampire and has "dirty feet", I don't agree with that or with giving Bond an "ugly" gun.
Maybe DC can win a PPK in a card game like he did with the Aston Martin?
Bond’s Beretta
The Handguns of Ian Fleming's James Bond
Point well taken. Still, as Casino Royale is a reboot of the series, a few of the stylistic elements are going to have to change. I don't mean that Bond should start driving a Honda Civic
or wearing a Timex and drink Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill but as a professional killer he should be concerned with the functionality and power of his sidearm as well as its concealability before even taking looks into consideration. A gun is a tool and if it looks like a "mud brick" so much the better. Bond is not his gun. The Brioni suits, the Omega watches, the Aston Martin cars, all help to describe and flesh out 007. Once he uses his gun, he cleans it, reloads it and puts it away.
He doesn't fondle it or fall in love with it.
Neither should the audience. While in the novel
Dr. No Bond regrets losing his Beretta once he starts using the superior weapon he becomes accustomed to it.
When Bond shoots a villain on film like Dr. Kaufman in "Tomorrow Never Dies" are we looking at the weapon or at Bond? Or at Dr. Kaufman?
We feel Bond's anger, we see Kaufman's fear.
The gun itself doesn't matter.
Now that we have a new Bond, rough around the edges, cruel, lethal, we need to get him a gun he
can use, not one he can pose in the mirror with.
)
I'd love to see the PPK get in there somehow---Bond kills a baddie, takes his gun (it's a PPK)...he hefts it in his hand, grins in recognition...and pockets it B-)
However, I disagree that the PPS is too ugly for him to use; I rather like it!

I think the gun was of importance in that scene, because Bond had dropped his PPK, and then used Kaufman's P7 against him.
From a logistics aspect you are quite right. But des irt realy matter which gun he picks up?
Dr. Kaufman is just as dead.
