Gads--a Chelsea grin sounds absolutely ghastly, right up there with a Colombian necktie!
As for the look of The Joker. . .interesting that the original character was based on Conrad Veidt's Man Who Laughs, but it looks like Nolan and co. may have taken their inspiration from an earlier Veidt character, Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari:

I'm somewhat disappointed, but really not too surprised, given Christopher Nolan's penchant for "realism" in the Batman films. If that is indeed the face the Nolans have decided on for The Joker, then it's probably an easier makeup to apply than something that even vaguely resembles the original version of the character. It's probably fairly comfortable for an actor to wear, too.
It'll probably sell a lot of toys and cereals, too.:v
In that particular makeup, Ledger looks like one of the Jokerz from the Batman Beyond TV series, or one of the Droogs in A Clockwork Orange or even The Crow, but he just doesn't look like The Joker to me.It's really not a version of The Joker I'd prefer to see.In all honesty,I don't think it's a particularly daring or original makeup, either,it's just... there.Yes,those lips are painted in the shape of the Batemblem, but this Joker doesn't look particularly frightening--just oddly derivative of practically everything but the character it's allegedly based upon.
The more familiar Joker face might possibly show up in police sketches of The Joker based upon the descriptions of confused and frightened witnesses. And it might be in an editorial cartoon in a newspaper. It's already on the cards Joker holds in that picture where the face is still partially hidden from sight.Maybe that's all the audience will ever see of the more recognizable Joker image.

W.G., my friend, your post sounds as if you're grasping for something positive to say amidst the "questionable" end result to no avail. )
I do sympathize with you on it not being what I thought The Joker should look like though but I will hold out a little longer until I can see what is concrete and what isn't. I mean what if it's another ruse? Perhaps this snapshot will be in next issue's Entertainment Weekly to silence the doubters-maybe not. New Heath Ledger Joker image is a fake!
The movie world is duped…again!
21 May 2007 11:34am
It was one of the biggest stories of the weekend, but we’ve got some bad news for Batfans – there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that the latest pic of Heath Ledger in his Joker guise is yet another fake.
If it is indeed a scam, it’s surely one of the most elaborate hoaxes in cinematic history, a gag worthy of the Clown Prince Of Crime himself.
If you haven’t already heard, here’s the story. At the weekend, what appeared to be a viral marketer littered a comic-book store in Southern California with playing cards, daubed with the phrase I Believe In Harvey Dent Too, a play on Warner Brothers’ official ibelieveinharveydent teaser site domain name.
Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. Fanboys who typed in ibelieveinharveydenttoo were sent to a new site, encouraging them to send off their email address, to receive a code which would allow them to gradually reveal a Bat-picture, hidden behind the official teaser.
Cleverly, whoever created the site (and we’ll prove in a moment that it wasn’t WB) didn’t announce that the image was Heath Ledger as the Joker, making fanboys even more desperate to see it.
Eventually – and trust us, it took a long time, suspicious in itself considering how many people were eventually attempting to reveal the image, once the word spread – this picture appeared.
Looks good, right? Well, before you get too overexcited, consider the following two points…
Warner Brothers’ first wave of this elaborate viral marketing campaign was to litter one comic-book store with home-made cards. Which is quite small-scale, even for a guerilla marketing campaign.
Both facts were suspicious enough to peak our interest, but not conclusive. After all, even if Warners did litter only one comic-book store with cards, it worked. And perhaps they’d left the official branding off the new site to make it seem more anarchic, more Joker-esque.
Still, it was enough to make us dig further. And we didn’t like what we found.
A simple WHOIS search revealed that, whilst ibelieveinharveydent was registered by Warner Brothers on 11 May, ibelieveinharveydenttoo was created by a private registration company, Domains by Proxy, Inc. on 14 May. We doubt Warner Brothers would go that far to keep their part in the enterprise a secret (after all, we sort of know they'll be behind the eventual Joker reveal).
Which, obviously, is a massive disapointment. But still, keep your eye on Total Film for the first image of the real Joker. We won’t report it ‘til we’ve seen it.
Empire magazine is claiming the pic is legit. However Total Film reckons that they are fake.
I so hope it is a fake! I don't like that picture at all. Not only does it look like he has pimples, but IMO it represents complete ugliness without the sense of fun that is presumably such a hallmark of the character. Plus, I have to say that it looks nothing like the picture of Ledger next to his trailer. I hope, at least, that The Joker will have green hair (which it appeared that Ledger had in that earlier picture.)

You beat me to this Bad Dog. By the time I'd posted, you'd already got there. I suspect WB are quite happy to have these fake jokers creating interest in the film. They don't even have to pay them.
I'm starting to think this is all a brilliant marketing scheme--Warner Bros. will put out one horrible image after another, so by the time we get the real image of Ledger as the Joker, we'll all breathe a collective sigh of relief and say, "Well, at least it isn't as bad as I thought it would be!"

Anthony Michael Hall Joins The Dark Knight
Source: Ryan May 21, 2007
"The Dead Zone" star Anthony Michael Hall revealed to LA Daily News that he has a role in Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight, currently filming for a July 18, 2008 release.
"I signed a confidentiality agreement, and I can't say which part I'm playing because it affects the story," said Hall. "I can't give away the suspense - it's a $200 million surprise, and I don't want to be the guy to ruin it."
He added, "I'm excited about it - Christian Bale back as Batman. Heath Ledger is joining the cast as the Joker. Of course, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine return, and they're great."
While he's shooting the sixth season of the USA Network series, he was able to make it for the first day of production in London the weekend before last. He said he's not scheduled to rejoin shooting until August, after "The Dead Zone" is wrapped.
"They're shooting in London, Chicago and Hong Kong. My next dates are in Chicago, the third week of August with Morgan, then I get to go back to London."
"It's really a great role," he added. "I'm in throughout the whole movie, and I'm really looking forward to working with Christian and Morgan and all these real Hollywood heavy hitters."
