Well, obviously we look for different things when it comes to playing The Joker. I'm still not convinced that Ledger was better than Nicholson, as he had an artificiality which I don't think Nicholson had.

Well since you said you don't read comics I am not surprised. I will admit Jack had some creepy moments that were Joker-esque though.

Anyway I know Nolan was not concerned with being faithful to the comics but he never strayed far from it. I have read several Batman comics and graphic novels multiple times so yeah, I don't agree with Tony. 8-)
    Good for you.

You don't see a problem with your rebuttle ? "I have no POV of my own so I'll blindly agree with someone else".
    Good for you.

Yes good for me that I actually know what I am talking about and Tony despite what I may disagree on.

I've never read a Batman comic, and I have a tremendous respect for the views of Tony and Rogue, when it comes to comics. When it comes to films, of course I have my own POV.

According to you. However, truthfully, I don't really care about your knowledge. This is a dead-end discussion.

I correct spelling mistakes as often as I can. I also don't constantly add to the thought or change it overall like you do every single time you post. Also I remember to read the entire post before replying.

When you act like an arrogant fool, I lose interest in what you say. I also lose interest when you attack the way I choose to post. You make every discussion personal, and I often wonder why I bother responding to you.

To get this thread back onto track, here's Tony's last post:

It's just a rumor and I honestly wouldn't put much stock in it at this point. Nolan is still hard at work on that sci-fi flick (who's name escapes me right now) and I seriously doubt casting is on the table as they don't even have a script yet.

Fox has also already filmed one comic book adaptation - Jonah Hex - and I doubt she'd be keen to remain in that genre, unless of course her career takes a tumble, in which case there would be no reason to hire her anyway.

Nolan has always preferred solid but relatively unknown actors for his movies. Heath Ledger was hardly a household name before Dark Knight and his previous female leads were Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal, hardly darlings of the tabloid set. If he does use Catwoman, I tend to think he would follow his established MO of getting someone who is a solid actress but not a household name to play her.

For now I'll add this to the rumors of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.

Lost in all the Mega Fox hubbub today was an article that states Nolan is thinking of filming the next Batman movie entirely in Imax's native 1.44:1 format (like selected scenes from Dark Knight).

I could see Nolan trying this if the technology is improved. He repeatedly said that he loved the added fidelity of the Imax format but was frustrated by how noisy the cameras were (making dialog impossible) and the fact you could only record a limited amount of film on each reel. If the Imax wizards can overcome those limitations, it'll be interesting to see how Nolan films the next one.

Going 3D might be another option; audiences seem to be embracing the technology again and even marginal movies have made more business by going that route. James Cameron's Avatar will be in 3D and if its a commercial success I'd expect more high profile Hollywood productions to go that route. Panasonic is even getting ready to release 3D capable TVs starting in late 2010, just in time for the inevitable home video releases for movies like Avatar and Batman III, and BluRay players like the PS3 need only a firmware update to support full color stereoscopic 3D as well.

Are these TVs utilizing the technology that doesn't require the special glasses? I've heard of some impressive demonstrations done for 3D gaming that create the illusion of 3D by focusing certain images at the right and left eyes individually. 3D's great in the theaters when it works, but I've never know 3D movies to have much value in the home theater realm.

My understanding is that they will need 3D glasses; but they will be the polarized ones used in recent theatrical 3D movies like Beowulf or Journey to the Center of the Earth, not the old anaglyph red and blue variety. The modern polarized glasses operate with special digital projectors that run at 120hz (in other words they can project 120 frames per second onto the screen). The polarized images alternate, one frame for the left eye, the next one for the right, and so on, which means that each eye receives 60 images every second. At that framerate, you can have a smooth picture, in full color, that still gives a convincing 3D effect.

I imagine Panasonic's TV's will operate on a similar principle though I still haven't gotten my hands on any specs yet. I've also read about TVs (primarily by Mitsubishi I think) that supposedly don't need glasses but I don't think that technology has caught yet; maybe too expensive?

I was looking at IMDB just now, and it appears that the next Batman fillm is due for release in 2011, although that date could change at any time.

Seeing as there's no script, no cast, no director (Nolan technically still isn't signed on) and given the fact that 2011 is already shaping up to be a very busy year genre wise (Spiderman 4, Thor, Captain America just off the top of my head) I very much doubt we'll see another Batman movie before 2012, hopefully as a 1-2 punch courtesy of WB with Green Lantern.

That's a good point. It's hard for me to get a good sense of where it's really at as the entry for it in IMDB is in IMDbPro, which can only be accessed by paid subscribers. Nonetheless, I think you are right that 2011 will be an extremely busy year. It appears that Conan will be realeased that year as well.

Sorry to disappoint you. :( I'm afraid there's not much news around at the moment. That was the closest I got to real news about the next film in ages.

About time. Hopefully we can erase the embarrassment of Arnold and John Milius and make something a Howard fan will love and understand.
