It appears that Conan will be realeased that year as well.
About effin time too. Hopefully, we can erase the stain of Arnold and John Milius and make something a Howard fan will love and understand.
(am a broken record, I know)
:v I probably shouldn't ask since I love Conan the Barbarian (it's sixth on my all-time favourite Arnie film list), but how exactly is it unfaithful? Is the reason being that he was never a slave in the original books?
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
Well at the time Eckhart was quoted as saying that he asked Chris Nolan if he was dead and Nolan told him absolutely yes but that was over a year ago so.......
I'm not sure if I'm way behind here but I have a funny feeling we haven't seen the last of Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent.
I have a feeling Harvey Dent/Two Face is dead. That doesn't mean he won't be in the next Batman though. If there's flashback sequences he might see Two Face/Harvey Dent in those. The way TDK ended though it just seemed to final for Two Face, laying on the ground motionless. Just my opinion though.

Time to bump this thread as there is a trickle of news coming on the next film. By way of AICN there's an interview with Christopher Nolan in which he reveals:
- The title of the new film will be The Dark Knight Rises
- The Riddler will not be a villain
- Casting calls have gone out for a significant female part (Catwoman perhaps?)
- The film will not be shot in 3D (Booo!!!)
- The fillm will have Imax sequences

Boo ? Hooray for me. 3-D can do what Dick Cheney would probably suggest. Also I cross my fingers in hopes that we finally have a strong female character. Lastly, the news that Riddler will not be a villian does arouse my curiosity. It was the logical choice given the nature of Nolan's films. Maybe Hugo Strange ?
Hey, its not my fault Nolan lacks the vision to shoot a movie stereoscopically. Seriously though, given how visually dark the Batman films typically are, avoiding 3D is probably a good idea. Its a medium that is better suited to brighter, more lively fare than the dark, brooding Batman movies Nolan seems to prefer.
The article suggests that Nolan wants first and foremost to retain the "gritty gangland realism" that permeated the first two films. As such I would imagine we'll be getting villains that would dovetail with that sensibility. The post-crisis Hugo Strange could work but unless they tweak him they'd be retreading some of the same ground they already covered with the Scarecrow in the first movie. Catwoman would probably fit Nolan's model too, as would Black Mask and the Ventriloquist & Scarface. Personally, I find the latter three far more interesting than Strange.
Personally, I waffle on my feelings about Nolan's Batman films. While I like the fact that he takes the subject matter seriously, and he can obviously stage some entertaining action sequences, I do not care for his apparent aversion to embracing the comics these movies are based on more strongly. Be it his insistence that there are no other "heroes" in Batman's universe, his ditching any hint of gothic aspect, and of course the absolutely piss-poor batsuit designs, I sometimes get the feeling he's a little embarrassed by some of the material he's adapting . You take the good with the bad but part of me is looking forward to the day when someone else will take over the reins. Hopefully it just won't be another Joel Schumaker.
It all makes me wonder how Nolan and Zack Snyder will be able to co-exist on their Superman collaboration seeing as Snyder typically takes the opposite approach and practically frames his movies to match the comics they're based on.

Maybe I haven't read enough Black Mask stories but I just don't find him that interesting. I like his black sense of humor but to be the main antagonist in a Batman film I just can't see. Ventriloquist and Scarface could work but it would be very difficult.

I pretty much have the same feelings. I think Nolan's approach to the character is just too narrow minded for a comic book movie. He's desperate to keep things grounded in reality to the point of a major handy cap; I couldn't stand the Michael Mann-esque look of Gotham City in TDK or the mundane Ras Al Ghul in BB. Coupled with Goyer's nasty habit of pretentious dialogue, especially in The Dark Knight, Batman has seemed too much of a smaller than life figure in these past two films. Hopefully the next director would take a far less grounded approach.

Yeah I really don't what to say about this collab. I am curious as to the result.

Very exciting news. I'm surprised at the omission of the Riddler as the characters, Coleman Reese(Mysteries) and Mike Engel both hinted at the riddler with their suspicions and distrust of batman. But I'm not at all surprised that Nolan has ignored the hype of 3D but has instead gone for Imax as in The Dark Knight.

I'm just wondering something about the whole Riddler thing. Just because Nolan says Riddler won't be in the 3rd movie doesn't mean Edward Nygma can't be in it. What if they start to mold Nygmas Riddler character? Was there ever a back story or Pre-Riddler stuff in the comics?

?:) Boo? More like: YAAAAY!!!! I'm happy that Nolan isn't giving in to the 3-D craze of movie making these days. It's only a ploy by studios to draw in more dollars regardless whether the film is a quality product or not. Hollywood thinks the viewing public has ADD or something and imagery is somehow more important than story. Essential to the movie-going experience? Yeah , probably, but only to a point. What proves this point is that movies, with varying themes, really don't call for utilizing the technology in the first place.
Do I hate 3-D? No, not at all. But it's cumbersome to take in personally and leaves me with headaches. The last time I took my son to a 3-D feature made me feel like I was on the set of THEY LIVE afterwards on the way home. CONSUME. SUBMIT. THIS IS YOUR GOD. )
It's the way of the world though; tech will always outdo itself. I'll bet in 5 years there will be something that trumps this and I wouldn't doubt that it's already in the works now. My wife thought that I was crazy when I said about 5 years ago that pretty soon we'll all be able to watch a movie on opening night from the comfort of our living rooms eliminating movie theatres altogether. It's slowly but surely headed in that direction now.
As for The Riddler not being the villian for the 3rd Bats, I have mixed feelings on this. I mean if he was chosen, I doubt that Nolan would give us Jim Carrey Part II but I can understand him wanting to tap into other potential foils not tested yet.
My preference would be Black Mask and Talia over Catwoman- she's been done twice already, let her rest. Besides, Talia brings Nolan's trilogy full circle with Ra's being her father, she can run circles around Selina Kyle and she's Batman's kryptonite. Lady Shiva would be another great suggestion.

Put me down as hoping Catwoman is not the villain. My Batman knowledge is nowhere as vast as others, but how about Anarchy, a young villain who used gadgets to disrupt the Government, could turn him into a hacker type, one of those professional protestors who show up at all the international trade meetings.

It would again be going back to The Dark Knight territory that already was done to death but on a higher scale.
I'd like to see Rupert Thorne and possibly some other villian team up; I guess you could use Black Mask after all. Right now would be the perfect opprotunity in Nolan's universe since Dent is dead and Batman is now wanted by the police.

I forgot all about Thorne. He'd make a good side attraction. How cool would've had been if the great John Vernon was available to play him in live action? B-) "Big, bad Harv." Love imitating that voice. B-)
I've read on a few message boards that fans feverishly speculate Killer Croc as the new villian just because the crew will be filming the majority of this in New Orleans. I keep trying to tell them that that's an economic move and not one for aesthetic but they just insist it's Croc.

I was thinking about Thorne in the comics. He was a corrupt city council boss. Right now he'd be a perfect character to lead the crusade against Batman while Black Mask makes his way to rule Gotham's underworld. Vernon would have made a great Thorne in live action though if he was still alive, he'd be nearly 80 when the new film comes out.

Yeah I don't agree Croc would be in the next film either. I could actually picture him in a Nolan film though because Croc is suppose to be a human with skin condition.
I doubt killer croc will be in it, but black mask could be an excellent way of showing how the joker has made gotham crazy as he would seem far more violent and cruel than even the likes of maroni and chechen as a mob boss

Sorry to double post but I just had a very interesting thought.
I believe Christopher Nolan has said that the title, The Dark Knight refers not just to Batman, but also to Harvey Dent. Therefore, I believe the new title, The Dark Knight Rises refers to Batman regaing his stature as a hero who inspires the people, but also to Dent returning in some form. I can no longer be convinced that he won't be in it.

I can't believe he could. We saw his dead body. He's going to have to give a hell of an explaination to believe that Dent is still alive.

So one is going to be a ally and another a villian. I am very happy with the news because now it seems we'll finally have some strong female characters in Nolan's Batman films. Talia Al Ghul may not be a far-out choice after all.
I would be happy with Natalie Portman, but many of these names may be nothing more than guesswork. It looks like we are supposed to expect Catwoman, just like everyone expected the Riddler.
Batgirl seems like a highly unlikely ally.

I'd take this with a pinch of salt, someone over at batman-on-film.com posted that hardy would make a good strange and the next day it was all over the net as a true story. I think he'd be good but untill Nolan says otherwise I'm not taking anything as truth

Well I am sure this came from another source. We'll have to wait and see.
Quite honestly, Hugo Strange strikes me as a very boring villain both in terms of his modus operandi and his appearance. I find myself growing weary of Nolan's continued insistence on grounding his Batman movies in the criminal underworld and really hope he does something a little more daring next time.

I am definetly calling bull s*** on this. So far, Goyer has only used characters from the Batman universe and that was his extent of adapting Batman to film. To turn around now and base a Batman film on a specific graphic novel makes no sense.
