I just wish Nolan would embrace the four color world Batman inhabits a little more than he does and find it odd that he has no trouble going to those more fantastic places in his other films like Inception and The Prestige but seems determined to ground Batman in a hard reality.
BTW, I've read that Nolan's involvement in the Superman project will largely end once he delivers a finished script. At that point, the film will be Snyder's to do with as he pleases so it looks like there's no need to worry about their opposite approaches to comic books clashing during production.

I think he just finds no interest in Batman as a comic book character. In that case, he would have been better off making an original creation.

Interesting article over at eonline.com which suggests several high profile actresses are in the running for not one but two leading ladies in DKR including a villainess. While I normally discount any articles from a tabloidish site like eonline I found it interesting they reported that the baddie might be Talia, Ras Al Gul's daughter. Normally, these sites never get past Catwoman when it comes to female antagonists for Batman so that fact that they reported this and actually knew who she was would suggest to me there may be some glimmer of truth in the story.
Well of the three I would like to see Keira Knightley as the villian. I think she can be very bitchy. Kind if tired of Anne Hathaway.

Yes, she was Batman's love interest and also knew his secret identity. Given the fact that she was Raas Al Guul's daughter, her relationship with Batman was always ambivalent. In one of the comics storylines she also had Bruce Wayne's child, though Wayne never found out. He backstory might make for some interesting scenes in the next movie.

Sorry, Mr. M--I went to your link, but what was up was a non-Batman related story. I figured they just update it every day or with every new story, and the only Bats story I found there was about Anne Hathaway being Catwoman. It's so hard to be first with anything on the Net. . .
I don't even remember Bane being in Batman and Robin (but in fairness, I have purged much of the movie from my memory).
My wife, being a fan of Anne Hathaway, was excited about the Catwoman news. While not a big fan of Catwoman, I will say that it might finally introduce some sex-appeal to Nolan's Batman franchise...not that it's necessary of course, but it's good to see Nolan challenging himself.
Not excited at all about Catwoman or Hathaway. Also not excited by Bane and/or Tom Hardy. If I hear they are re-introducing Robin, I may not show up to watch!

According to Romania-Insider, City Hall officials told Mediafax newswire that director Christopher Nolan might film part of his third and final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises in Bucharest this spring. Mayor Sorin Oprescu said producers met with various city officials to discuss the filming for a “future project.” Locations Nolan provided a list of include Bucharest’s historical center and Edgar Quinet Street. Rumor has it that the Palace of Parliament might also be a potential Batman hangout spot. In December, Nolan also visited the Turda salt mines in northwestern Romania, in an “unofficial” capacity.
What could this mean for the film itself? It stands of note that filming location never dictates or confirms plot points. Just because Bryan Singer filmed the X-Men movies in Vancouver didn’t mean the merry mutants would be fighting for the Maple Leafs. That said, in the case of The Dark Knight, while no major Batman stories took place in Romania, it definitely feels like a place where Batman Begins villain Ra’s al Ghul might spend some of his time. With rumors of Talia’s potential appearance in the film still circulating post Catwoman confirmation, this might help fuel those flames, as Bucharest could serve as a base of operations for the villainess and her League of Assassins.
Then again, it could just be a location for another comic book city or, for all we know at this point, Nanda Parbat, a fictional Shangri-La-like city that interestingly enough, the League of Assassins and Talia frequently attack and visit. Absolutely all of this remains speculation until more information surfaces.
Seems like I remember an article from last year that Nolan was in talks with two females to be in the next Batman movie. I wonder if we'll have more news coming out on this movie. Another villain perhaps? Maybe another female lead? I can't wait for this to start filming.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Catwoman in a business suit and a normal-sized Bane who puts on the luchador mask only a couple of times--Nolan seems to let only Batman run around in a head-to-toe costume.

I'm sure you're right---and my gripe isn't just with the Nolan Batman films; far from it. It's a 'blockbuster film' problem as far as I'm concerned. I enjoyed both Nolan Batmans...I just think each of them (especially TDK!) could have been so much better if they'd had a less busy agenda.

Here's another article about The Dark Knight Rises. No spoilers in it, but lots of hype. It's a short article but an interesting read:
Cinematographer extraordinaire Wally Pfister gave an exciting and tantalizing phone interview to the Kevin and Josh Movie Show last friday that touched on subjects like Inception, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Wally is a friend of the show’s and loves to talk film with the hosts, who are huge Christopher Nolan fans — to the point where I am surprised they didn’t found this site themselves. They do their best to pick Wally’s brain for information and insight. Thankfully Wally is a really cool dude and talks about everything he can talk about without getting himself fired. I’ll do my best to sum up what I though was the most fascinating or exciting, but I’ll also include a link to the audio file of the show below so you can hear it all for yourself.
After discussing Inception and the disappointment with some of its Oscar nominations, or lack of rather, the hosts praise Chris and Wally’s use of practical effects and stunts in their action sequences. They then ask Wally how Nolan can top The Dark Knight? “I asked the same question,” Wally responded. “I read the script 2 weeks ago, and he’s done it. Plain and simple — he’s done it. It’s a phenomenal script. He’s still in the process of cutting it back because it’s a very long script right now, but it’s really phenomenal. And he actually had me go back and wanted me to watch, in IMAX, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again. When I watched those I had read the script for The Dark Knight Rises and was like, ‘dude, it is a perfect trilogy.’ I think that was his intent, to work off those two pictures — and they are very different pictures. And it’s funny, we all had different opinions about which picture we like better.”
They went on to talk about various rumors and location scouting. Wally mentions Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley were in New York and all over the world looking for locations. Kevin and Josh also bring up the screen tests for The Dark Knight Rises, which Wally mentions he shot himself. This excites the hosts a bit and they inquire about Anne Hathaway’s screen test, to which Wally replies, “She’s so good. She did an incredible job. She is a great, great actress.” He then says something very vague and possibly controversial: “And she looked phenomenal in the wardrobe.” Of course this could mean anything, but Wally did assert that he could say no more without getting in trouble, which in it of itself is sort of an answer to what it actually means. Or so it would seem.
Returning once again to the “How can you top it?” question, the hosts talk about shooting action and shooting for IMAX. Wally answers by saying, “We’re going to try, man. Our goal is to shoot as much in IMAX as we can. We’re going to put in on the screen, and put it on the screen big. And I really encourage everyone to see it in IMAX if they can because we’re really going for it this time. In terms of the action, we are all scratching our heads right now trying to figure out how we’re going to do it; how we’re going to do it in the amount of time we’re going to do it in. The opening scene of the movie will blow your mind.”

THR Confirms that Marion Cotillard is in talks for the film, though nothing is set yet. Christopher Nolan is looking for the film’s love interest, also meeting with Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts in recent weeks. Scheduling is the issue, and THR says “The plan is for Cotillard to start shooting mid-June in London, film all summer in L.A. and Pittsburgh and wrap mid-November in New York.” More details as we get them; original article follows.
One of the largest newspapers in France, Le Figaro, is the latest source of The Dark Knight Rises speculation. They’re reporting that Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, who previously worked with director Christopher Nolan in Inception, will be starring in the final Batman film. Being as Nolan has already cast two other actors from Inception in The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this story feels more solid than most other rumors. Since Le Figaro article is in French, we don’t have a perfect translation (maybe one of our readers speaks French and can do it in the comments?) but Batman News, who alerted us to the story, translated the story through Google as follows:
Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3?. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros.. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles. She will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.
As early as November of last year, we heard tell that, since Rachel Dawes kicked the bucket in The Dark Knight, Nolan was looking for two female leads for his final Batman film: a villain and a love interest. Anne Hathaway has already been cast as Selina Kyle, which we assume to be Catwoman, and that would mean the role Cotillard fills could very well be Bruce Wayne’s love interest. Of course, until we get an official confirmation from Warner Brothers (an e-mail sent to the company at press time has not yet been returned) feel free to speculate.

EXCLUSIVE: Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to re-team with his "Inception" director Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight Rises," the question turns to what role the actor will play.
Speculation has run rampant regarding the role, with blogs pegging the part as The Riddler or Deadshot, but insiders tell Variety that Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in "Batman Begins."
Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan's superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer's stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against "realistic" villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher's 1997 misfire "Batman and Robin."
While Nolan has elected to keep fans in the dark -- for now -- what is known is that indie sensation Juno Temple is being eyed for a supporting role as a street-smart Gotham girl.
Warner Bros. and reps for both thesps declined to comment on casting and character rumors.
Nolan continues to fine-tune the script as the start of production grows closer. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker is also serving as a creative consultant on another WB superhero franchise, Zack Snyder's "Superman," which now has Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane onboard.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is scheduled for release on July 20, 2012.
Since Gordon-Levitt was first reported last month as being in talks for "Dark Knight," he hasn't signed on for any more projects, and his summer remains wide open. Thesp next stars opposite Natalie Portman in the indie drama "Hesher," which Wrekin Hill recently acquired, with plans to release the long-delayed film in April. He'll also be seen alongside Seth Rogen in Jonathan Levine's cancer comedy "50/50," which Summit will release on Sept. 30.
Gordon-Levitt recently wrapped David Koepp's thriller "Premium Rush," which Columbia plans to open Jan. 13. He's currently filming Rian Johnson's sci-fi pic "Looper," which co-stars Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.
Temple, who can now be seen in Jordan Scott's "Cracks" and Gregg Araki's "Kaboom," has two Sundance pics in the can -- Elgin James' "Little Birds" and last year's festival hit "Dirty Girl." She recently wrapped starring roles in the indies "Killer Joe" opposite Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch, as well as "Jack and Diane." Additionally, thesp plays Queen Anne in Paul W.S. I removed the image tag from the website above. Kind of weird thing about it. It's a black screen but you get a bunch of chanting or something. Something like people chanting for a certain person. Maybe they're chanting for Bane to enter a fight circle?

Being as Nolan has already cast two other actors from Inception in The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this story feels more solid than most other rumors. Since Le Figaro article is in French, we don’t have a perfect translation (maybe one of our readers speaks French and can do it in the comments?) but Batman News, who alerted us to the story, translated the story through Google as follows:
Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3?. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros.. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles. She will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.
As early as November of last year, we heard tell that, since Rachel Dawes kicked the bucket in The Dark Knight, Nolan was looking for two female leads for his final Batman film: a villain and a love interest. Anne Hathaway has already been cast as Selina Kyle, which we assume to be Catwoman, and that would mean the role Cotillard fills could very well be Bruce Wayne’s love interest. Of course, until we get an official confirmation from Warner Brothers (an e-mail sent to the company at press time has not yet been returned) feel free to speculate.

Gordon-Levitt's 'Dark Knight' role revealed
UPDATE: Actor tipped to play Alberto Falcone a.k.a. The Holiday Killer

EXCLUSIVE: Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to re-team with his "Inception" director Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight Rises," the question turns to what role the actor will play.
Speculation has run rampant regarding the role, with blogs pegging the part as The Riddler or Deadshot, but insiders tell Variety that Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in "Batman Begins."
Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan's superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer's stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against "realistic" villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher's 1997 misfire "Batman and Robin."
While Nolan has elected to keep fans in the dark -- for now -- what is known is that indie sensation Juno Temple is being eyed for a supporting role as a street-smart Gotham girl.
Warner Bros. and reps for both thesps declined to comment on casting and character rumors.
Nolan continues to fine-tune the script as the start of production grows closer. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker is also serving as a creative consultant on another WB superhero franchise, Zack Snyder's "Superman," which now has Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane onboard.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is scheduled for release on July 20, 2012.
Since Gordon-Levitt was first reported last month as being in talks for "Dark Knight," he hasn't signed on for any more projects, and his summer remains wide open. Thesp next stars opposite Natalie Portman in the indie drama "Hesher," which Wrekin Hill recently acquired, with plans to release the long-delayed film in April. He'll also be seen alongside Seth Rogen in Jonathan Levine's cancer comedy "50/50," which Summit will release on Sept. 30.
Gordon-Levitt recently wrapped David Koepp's thriller "Premium Rush," which Columbia plans to open Jan. 13. He's currently filming Rian Johnson's sci-fi pic "Looper," which co-stars Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.
Temple, who can now be seen in Jordan Scott's "Cracks" and Gregg Araki's "Kaboom," has two Sundance pics in the can -- Elgin James' "Little Birds" and last year's festival hit "Dirty Girl." She recently wrapped starring roles in the indies "Killer Joe" opposite Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch, as well as "Jack and Diane." Additionally, thesp plays Queen Anne in Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation of "The Three Musketeers," and is gearing up to co-star in the indie thriller "A Single Shot."
Gordon-Levitt is repped by CAA, while UTA and Troika rep Temple.

I removed the image tag from the website above. Kind of weird thing about it. It's a black screen but you get a bunch of chanting or something. Something like people chanting for a certain person. Maybe they're chanting for Bane to enter a fight circle?

No, Mr. M, that's Commissioner Gordon probably at death's door but that's just me speculating.
