Footage from the animated series has been put together to match it up with the latest trailer from The Dark Knight Rises. I think it is rather good. You can see the animated trailer on it's own, and also simultaneously with TDKR trailer 3.

Here are two new promo posters for The Dark Knight Rises. Apparently, they are not going to be used in the film's marketing, but film buffs are already predicting they shall make an appearance on merchandise.

Those posters aren't the greatest. I'm actually glass they won't be used. They look like something a fast food chain would put on a plastic beverage cup.

    Here's another poster....

Better than some of the others I think but still, when you get right down to it, just another photoshop mashup. It would have been great if Nolan - who definitely evokes a whole retro vibe when it comes to filmmaking - could have commissioned just one hand painted poster like the good old days.

That poster is pretty good, Tony. Have you seen this one? It certainly seems to strike the right mood based on what I have heard and seen to date. He looks like a beaten man, almost as if he is contemplating suicide.

I like this one the best I think, though I don't see a beaten man. To me he looks like he's just standing vigil over Gotham, very reminiscent of a lot of iconic Batman images actually. Funny how different people see completely different things in the same image.

My view of the image has been affected (for want of a better word) by what I have seen and read about The Dark Knight Rises. If I saw it in isolation I would most likely be seeing the same as you.

When I see the image these things are at the front of my mind. The Dark Knight Rises is set eight years after it's predecessor. In that time Batman has fought many battles and has been worn down both physically and mentally. Then along comes Bane causing mayhem, destroying buildings, bridges, raiding the stock exchange etc. Batman is worn down even more trying to keep Gotham under control. By the time he confronts Bane he's not up to the challenge. Bane throws Batman's mask away. He is at his mercy, "Your punishment must be more severe." Bruce Wayne is seen at one point (before or after Bane?) looking distinctly haggard, bearded, walking with a cane.

Usually if you see a bloke on top of a tall building contemplating the tarmac, you don't think, 'Hey, that guy is looking out for the city, wonder if he's gonna swoop off using his cape or get in the Bat Plane?'

Though I suppose you might think again if he had the Batman outfit on. Or maybe you'd think, 'Hey, that guy looks depressed because he turned up to what he thought was a fancy dress party...'

And for those here in the United States, AMC IMAX Theaters will also start selling tickets for The Dark Knight Rises on June 11th. Also, some (maybe all) AMC theaters will be have a Dark Knight marathon. The only link I could find is this:

A bit of a mystery. If the footage was removed it is now back again. Had a quick look on You Tube and Warner Bros are currently blocking the new footage shown at last nights MTV Awards on copyright grounds.

Not sure why it didn't play last night. I was able to catch it on the re-run of the Awards. There's another website that has the footage to. So I wonder if it'll end up on Youtube soon. If your curious, here's the site I was able to view it on:
    http://blip.tv/nosweat0911/the-dark-knight-rises-trailer-mtv-movie-awards-2012-6183934

*Edit, just checked youtube and the video is up. Only thing I can think is, MTV had exclusive rights to it until the first play and re-run of the awards were broadcast. Once the re-run ended in Hawaii, the footage was able to be released for everyone at that point.

Christopher Nolan appeared at the annual Produced By Conference presented by the Producer's Guild of America. In an interview he talked (amongst other things) about why he will continue to shoot on film instead of digital. Also, he did not refer to the Batman comics saying if he was influenced it was by earlier Batman films. He focused on telling the best story he could stating the source material is irrelevant. The challenge with Batman is to find what is a believable character.

    The FULL article.

The more I see and read about Dark Knight Rises, the less I find myself wanting to watch it. I'm sure I'll see it but I'm starting to tire of Nolan's take on the material and his insistence on marginalizing the comics source. He wallows too much in the dark and while that fits the character it would also be refreshing if he would lighten up a bit now and then as Batman can definitely work that way as well. I look at the balance The Avengers was able to strike between action, humor and seriousness and for me that is the preferred model, not Nolan's perpetually oppressive vision.

As for not wanting to shoot digitally, I think he needs to expand his outlook and take a good long look at where the technology actually is. I look at what Ridley Scott and his cinematographer did with Prometheus and while the film is uneven in terms of story and pacing, visually he managed to create a beautiful, richly textured, deeply detailed universe in 3D all on digital media despite the fact that the movie has such a dark color palette.

One should look at what Scott pulled off with Prometheus, and what Peter Jackson is doing with 48 frames per second digital projection on the Hobbit once you get over the shock of how clear it is and how smooth and natural it looks. Traditional film at 24 frames per second introduces unnatural blurring and judder in even moderately fast scenes and the only reason most people prefer it initially is because that is all they have ever seen and it takes the brain a little while to acclimate to more realistic 48fps digital presentation.

When you see stuff like that all of Nolan's views on and arguments against digital media quickly start to seem laughably out of touch. Nolan's solution is to shoot as much as possibly in Imax, one of the most unwieldy, expensive and least supported film systems, to make up for traditional film's limitations.
