Another Bond Girl Story

Maybe this story is inspired by the recent Amy Winehouse song, which is being discussed in this thread; but here's a new rumor, posted to RottenTomatoes:

Amy Winehouse Stars in...Another Bond Girl Rumor

Posted by Scott Weinberg on Wednesday, May. 09, 2007, 02:42 AM

Scott Weinberg writes: "A few of my friends assure me that songstress Amy Winehouse is quite talented, which is cool. But recent 007 gossip indicates that she might show up in "Bond 22."

Wouldn't be the first time a singer made a goofy cameo in a James Bond movie. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Madonna.) Buzz from the UK says "Producer Barbara Broccoli has offered Winehouse a part in the CASINO ROYALE sequel after falling in love with the Rehab star's hit album." Which makes about as much sense as offering an acting role to a world-class chef who just made you an awesome dinner.

More likely they'd be talking to Ms. Winehouse about maybe doing the into song for the movie, but hey, maybe she'll actually get a speaking part, too. Expect about 438 more Bond Girl Rumors over the next 12 to 18 months.

Is Bond going to sleep with her?

Amy Winehouse has scotched rumours of an appearance in Bond 22, "I'm just not an actress, it can't be true." However, she would be interested in contributing to the soundtrack.

I can't testify to her singing abilities, but Ms. Winehouse's mumbling and gum-smacking--not to mention all those tattoos--certainly don't do much for me. Perhaps she's better heard than seen!

I can't testify to Ms. Winehouse's singing abilities either. As for being better heard than seen? I would most likely say yes to the image on the left, but most likely no to the image on the right.

Amy Winehouse is a very good singer, no problems there.

Are you sure about those images there, MNL, or do you go for the skeletel look ?
She looks far better - IMO - in the picture on the right.

I think what MNL is saying is "Better heard than seen--yes to the one on the left, no to the one on the right." I'll agree with that: definitely looks better with some meat on those bones!

That's precisely what I was saying, Hardy.

Good to know, MNL. By the bye, I YouTube'd some Amy Winehouse videos, and I can definitely imagine her doing a Bond theme. Her voice is interesting--sort of a cross between Shirley Bassey and Billie Holliday--and she obviously loves that smoky, bluesy sound. The song "You Know I'm No Good" sounds rather Bond-ish--give it a listen, everyone!

I think she'd look good inbetween the two pictures.

That's very good news- she'd be a superb choice for the title singer. Give the current single 'Back to Black' a listen- it's not hard to imagine her doing Bond.

I wonder, what if they did a duet by a male and a female singer? Ive grown sick and tierd of almost 20 years of female singers and want more male sung themes.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool, although Winehouse can deliver a good theme song.

The minute I heard Back To Black I thought of Bond. She is terrific and has a very distinctive voice. I wouldn't object to a female vocal again if it were her.

You Know I'm No Good is quite Bassey-ish and even references Roger Moore! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree that she should do the title song and not be in it. I don't want another painful cameo. (MADONNA!!!!!!!!!!)

It might work if the themesong was done in an "in-universe" perspective, where, say at the end of the PTS, Bond attends a concert and the song being performed is the title theme...
