Bond Returns To Pinewood

This is good news, I think---and a bit surprising:

Apparently, the deal was inked at the Cannes Film Festival.

According to the article, Barrandov Studios (in Prague, where CR was shot) "did put in a strong bid to host Bond 22, but the potential cost savings, which were attractive for the Casino Royale production, did not outweigh the advantages of shooting at Pinewood this time around."

Ironically, Brozzer will be using the new (rebuilt) 007 stage before Craigger, since 'Mamma Mia!' starts shooting there later this month...

Just read the article. Very interesting, I wonder if the tank has anything to do with Bond going back, some underwater sequences for Bond 22? I think it is wonderful news, I was rooting for Pinewood the whole time.

I have a suspicion than Eon were wanting to save as much money as possible when shooting CR, since it was (without the benefit of precognition!) one of the riskier moves they've made in quite a while. The fact that they seem willing to 'eat' the currency exchange expenses, for instance, would seem to indicate a bit of comfort with the course they've laid...and a belief that it will continue to pay off.

If I'm off base---and tradition really doesn't account for much, after all---why not just 'run away' to the Czech Republic again?

Probably yes. However I believe Eastenders was the first to use it for recent shots lately.

I hope so. I can really see Craig in vaguely retro style Scuba gear (think Connery in Thunderball).

Interesting when they say that they said Pinewood was more practical for shooting this time around.

However, I felt part of the attraction with filming in Prague may have been for filming around "Montenegro" and all the attractive landscapes. So, now we know where Bond 22 wont be set.

One can only hope they need all that space for a certain volcano setting...and I'm not talking about the one that launches/receives rocket ships! The big showdown from YOLT the novel for the end of Bond 22, anyone? ;)
