Plot Holes

Time to dig into the dirty hamper and bring out the dirty underwear!

It's the plot-elements-that-make-you-scratch-your-head-and-go-whaa? thread.

My favorite example is from Live and Let Die.

Bond gets kidnapped in the jazz club, where he is sucked into the floor and threatened torture by Mr. Big. For some reason, Mr. Big spares his pinky finger and has him sent to the alligator farm (wha?). Well, as we know, Bond gets away by hopscotching some alligator heads, after which follows an overly-long boat chase. After the final villain's boat is destroyed, Bond comes puttering up to the shore...

...and Felix Leiter is standing there.

'Hello Felix, what are you doing here?'

And Felix says... 'Never mind that! We've got work to do!' (or something to that effect. he definitely said 'never mind that')

Why in hades would Felix just happen to be standing by the bayou waiting for Bond to arrive by boat, when the last time he saw him was in a seedy jazz club?

Kananga sends Bond to "the farm" because he wants "no bodies this time, no trace." What better way to do this than to feed Bond to the crocs. :o

Considering Felix received a phone call from someone claiming to be Strutter (he was already dead at this point) and returned to the table to find Bond missing, he must have come to the conclusion that something was wrong.

The police were well aware of what was happening in the bayou. Felix must have found out what was going on through them.

Sure, but: even the police couldn't keep up with the boat chase, and how would he have known it had anything to do with Bond anyway? And how did he know where Bond was going to putter up to the shore?

Felix knows best; when chaos engulfs a once peaceful city (or in this case, bayou), chances are that Bond is involved! ;)
And how did he know where Bond was going to putter up to the shore?

The police have been following Bond's movements the whole time. They must have known that Bond would eventually end up at the marina, where he could dock the boat.

I think its the Austin Powers explanation - nobody ever just shoots Bond when they have him at their mercy, they always have to dream up some highly implausible method of desposing of Bond that he can escape from.

Two of my favourite plot holes are:

    1. TMWTGG - Bond goes all the way to Beirut to get the golden bullitt that killed Bill Fairbanks when Andrea has already sent one to MI6 with the supposed note from Scaramanga.

    2. TND - Wai Lin spends a fair amount of time handcuffed to Bond including climbing all over the motorcycle and then just opens the handcuffs with her ear ring when the action is over. Might have made life easier if she had done this in the helicopter on the way to the Carver building.
