Bill Gates ranks Bond...

...and gets Norman Wilner to pen the article. :)) Just kidding, this is MSN movies ranking of all the Bond films.

http://movies.sympatico.msn.ca/features/ArticleNormanWilner.aspx?cp-documentid=436189

Thought it was interesting, I read through their critiques.I surprisingly agreed with them on a lot of points (btw JFF you are not going to be happy about which film they ranked last :v). I too think that FRWL was the best of the best, and cannot disagree with them putting Goldfinger second (although we all know you would put GF at first Dan). CR is my third and so I like it where they put it and like their reasoning, but TND in fourth? Whoa, did not see that coming! Interesting reasons for putting there though.

Leave your comments on this one, I am sure this could become a lively point of discussion! :007)

You're right about that. Any list which doesn't have GF at number 1 isn't worth the paper it's written on in my book. X-(

Exactly. :# I can understand that some people may not like TWINE, but to put it below DAD? :o

I think it's an interesting list. I don't agree with much of it (as one could see if one compared my list to it), and while I passionately disagree with alot of it (such as the constant Moore bashing and the love of Dalton), it is not the worst list I have read. ;)

Now, now--the great Willie Garvin puts FRWL at #1 on his list. . .certainly you can't quibble with HIS expertise?

What amazes me is that TND is NUMBER FOUR on this list, and TMWTGG is at 10! I don't hate TND, but how it can be ranked so highly indicates whoever compiled that list may be smoking something. . .and putting TMWTGG above Dr. No and a few other gems is just criminal. Those two factors are enough to make me discredit this thing!

Ah, but that's the genius of the quiz, throwing in a few gems (Oh, Gems!) to stoke controversy.

Anway, jetset has CR 1967 above Doc No!

Moonraker was ranked too low, was miles better than DAD, Ken Adams was at the peak of his power, and Michael Lonsdale kicked ass as Sir Hugo Drax!

Yeah; I'd have to agree. It's not The Perfect Film, but it is an absolute classic. From Russia With Love would be on a par if Bond wasn't such an irritatingly smug git in it. Goldfinger got the balance right, but more importantly it got 007 right.
As for the others; I'm surprised Spy Who Loved Me isn't a bit higher, but it's good to see OHMSS up there and, yeah, I don't entirely disagree with TND. It's a little forgettable, but it does exactly what you want a Bond film to do.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the author does have some unique thoughts. FRWL as the best ahead of GF I can live with, they are both good movies. CR is way too high and TWINE way too low. I think his comments about TMWTGG are actually correct. Moore and Lee did make for good adversaries. I always said if you get rid of the kung foo girls helping Bond and the Sheriff, TMWTGG is a good movie. TB gets a lot of criticism for its underwater scenes, but in its time, the underwater scenes were ground breaking. Interesting list and interesting comments that's for sure.

Not a bad list at all, but The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, License to Kill, and TWINE are too low, while TND is too high.

Exactly Hardy! This also explains why AVTAK is at the bottom, whoever compiled the list has no taste in Bond movies. ;)

As far flung as DAD may (or may not) be - it can never be accused of being boring, long winded or action-less. Guess that means alot to some people.

Yes, TB was definitely ahead of its time with the underwater sequences, not enough is said about these wonderful movie scenes IMO. Great film altogether, but I know a lot of Bondians don't rank it highly. I also agree in regards to TMWTGG. I loved Lee and Moore pitted against each other in the film and tend to forget about some of the more embarassing moments (Kung Fu girls, the sherriff etc.). Anyways, very interesting list indeed with some good insight. And although you JFF may not believe that this person knows anything about Bond movies, I would reckon they learned enough and gave a great try at ranking the films.

I've seen worst lists. I would have put Majesty's higher-- the only film that can really compete with it is FRWL. MR also doesn't deserve the flak it gets, DAD is the real nadir of the series, and TND doesn't belong in the top 5. That said it was an interesting read.

That looks very interesting. Gates writes about Bonds quite strict and I'm happy because I think he likes Timothy Dalton. The Living Daylights is the eighth and it shows that Dalton is very talented actor. Like Bill says about Dalton:

"The actor who could have been the definitive 007 – at least until Craig came on the scene...".

That's absolutely true. Dalton had a bad luck in his Bond-career :( He was the best one :/ They shouldn't have hired Pierce Brosnan at all.

But back to this topic. I would set the "License To Kill" much higher than it's now. It could be fourth or fifth and View To a Kill would be something like 8-10. Casino Royale is the best movie, but actor comes after Timothy Dalton :D

Connery...? We shouldn't talk about him in these Bond discussions at all...

Thanks for this cool discussion topic!
