"Goldfinger" is not yet out on Blue Ray, but I have the BlueRay player and Sony Bravia in the 52".
The player upgrades the image alot, and in the case of this watchband, you can see the grain in the nylon, and the colors quite clearly, so much so that for this viewer the notion that the red/green effect is some kind of film reaction is completely dispelled. The colors are also present in "Thunderball" when the Rolex is in close-up, something I never saw on my pre-HD set-up.
Watching "Dr. No" the other night, I saw that in the introductory baccarat game, Sean Connery's cigarettes have three gold bands - another detail I had never seen before!!!!
Now with respect to that scene in CR'06 where Vesper ...... opps! already mentioned that in another thread!!!!

I have a 52" Panasonic plasma screen witha Bose 3-2-1 system. However, I'm still not convinced that the strap has red in it. Again I view this in same vein as the Star Trek TOS command shirts. Although the command shirts were actually green, many costumers use gold fabric to simulate how the shirts appeared on screen. Also, the Connery/Bond Sandown trilby is brown, but there are many instances when it appears grey. James Lock and CO. will specify that the hat was only ever available in brown, nevertheless it still appears on film in certain instances as grey. I'm not discounting the possibilty of the strap having red in it, however I think the use of color as it appears on screen as definitive evidence is questionable at best.

I can understand a colour shift - like the trek shirts. But the appearance of another colour not present?
Another thread mentioned some folks who had access to the original props. I would think that if the Rolex strap combination was used in at least two movies, EON should have an extra somewhere that could answer the question for good.

Well, again, I'm not discounting the possibility of the strap having red in it. Indeed, if real world evidence proves that it's so, to me it simply adds a layer of complexity to the clothing and accesory choices for Bond.
However, the red in questions happens at the convergence of two colors. The process of Technicolor does strange things to film, in my opinion. Techincolor seems to make color super vibrant and red, to my eye, seems to dominate. The only definitive answer that we can get is if we get access to an original strap, or if the prop/wardrobe master tells us what the original strap looked like, like Thiess did for the Trek command shirts.

This discussion reminds me of the ocassions when my wife and I discuss paint chips .... We'll put it on hold until one of the original straps shows up or prehaps a non-screen image.......;)

I contacted Locke once re the trilby hat colour and they said the FRWL one was green ??? Go figure ??? On film at least on my Pana plasma, it does look green and it does match the grey check suit - look on ferry scenes. In Dr No in the Bel Air car from Kingston airport, the hat also looks green. UR probably right re colour shifts -
BTW the difference between Locke's brown trilby and the green one is the width of the brim - difference is green is about 1cm larger - would not notice on film - still other Locke staffers say its the brown one??
Anyone else have observations?

Personally I don't think that we'll ever know for sure.
I read in some older posts that Phoenix Straps was on it's last leg. Does anyone know if they're still in business? Do they take orders directly or have resellers?
Thanks
I don't think they are around anymore.
Hello all,
Some of you may be interested to know that according to the rep at www.westcoasttime.com, Phoenix Strap UK is "well and in business," and supplies the Bond strap for sale at their website. I came across this site when browsing www.watchuseek.com. Someone recommended www.westcoasttime.com and www.timefactors.com as being stores from which one can purchase high quality NATO straps. With all that is circulating on Ebay for around the same price, I think I will go with www.westcoasttime.com and their Phoenix Bond NATO strap.
I have a Invicta 8926 series 1 coming soon (starving actor with Rolex down the road I hope), and cannot decide whether to get 18mm or 20mm. Is there any advantage to 18mm besides just for the sake of replica?
Also, I thought I might add that I was recently watching the dvd of the Goldfiner precredits Submariner/NATO strap scene on my 20" Sony flatscreen tube computer monitor using VLC media player. For the record, I also can see the thin red lines in the strap in a number of different frames.
I just bought a Bond strap with olive green navy blue and a deep burgundy red the screen shots from a blueray are pretty convincing.
Sounds like you bought Cam's strap. Good for you.

I don't know that the dispute has ended. However the Corvus strap is screen accurate because you do see the red in some scenes on screen. I don't have a Blueray player. However I do have a large high definition TV and Bose DVD system. I don't know how Blueray can enhance what was originally filmed on film stock, but I'm not an expert.
In the end it does not matter, because if you are a true Bond fan you want both looks. Cam has provided us with one of those looks and I support it and him without reservation. Relax and enjoy Bond goodness when it is given.

I purchased the 20 m/m as my Sub is a later version, so no matter what I can't pass it off as the "Goldfinger" model.
