PRE-CREDITS RUMOUR

StrangewaysStrangeways London, UKPosts: 1,469MI6 Agent
A friend of a friend who is working as a researcher on Bond 22 has told me thre following information........

The movie WILL begin with 007 shooting Mr White from the end of CR. It turns out that this will form the basis of the pre-credit sequence when a shoot out between Mr White's henchmen and Bond leads to a boat chase (presumably on Lake Como) with 007 getting away and then leading into the titles.

Not sure how much of this is true, as I don't believe we have had any confirmations that filming will take place near Lake Como. However the boat chase bit fits in with what was in the papers before Christmas.

Sounds cool if the pre-credits does indeed begin with Mr White arriving at the Lakeside villa; the first time that a Bond movie has been a direct continuation. {[]

Sounds interesting -I wonder if it will jump straight into that scene -or whether there will be a scene directly before it with M wanting to know where 007 is? Either way it looks like a great idea to carry it on in a proper fashion.

Personally this is one aspect of Bond22 I'd hoped they'd steer away from. The idea that the film will start from the very end of Casino Royale seems rather naff, and so far removed from the traditional Bond series that we might has well have started a completely new franchise.
I just hope the Pre-Credits sequence doesn't involve a horrible "recap of Casino Royale" montage with Craig or Dench narrating - that really would ruin the franchise for me personally.

I think it the idea of picking up where CR left off can be a clever idea if handled properly, and not leave the viewer feeling that the movie is a direct continuation. How often do Bond films begin in media res with the viewer needing no real exposition to set the stage? Mr. White could be relegated to nothing more than a bit player, not unlike, the Toro character at the beginning of OP or Jacque Bouvier at the beginning of TB. If you envision the pre-title sequence to simply be the 'climax' of a movie that came before, then the only thing different with Bond 22 would be that you actually got to see the events that lead up to the pre-titles. Of course, the downside is that it emphasizes CR's limp ending, either by cutting off the necessary climactic confrontation, or relegating CR's enigmatic baddy Mr. White to an inconsequential goon to be snuffed out within minutes of Bond 22's opening...it would not be unlike making a Bond film where Bond defeats Nick Nack only to ignore Scaramanga. Where's the triumph?

I hope this exactly what happens. I've read somewhere that another lake in Italy has been looked at...could be that the chase happens on a completely different lake than the one at the end of CR, but that's no biggie, as the location of White's villa was never elaborated upon...

If they start the PTS at the moment when Mr. White's car arrives at the villa, #22 will be a stand-alone film in every respect, IMO...I predict Mr. White will, in fact, be snuffed out in the PTS---just after revealing a key bit of plot-advancing information ;)

Naturally, I disagree that CR's ending was 'limp' :)

    Nope :))

The good news is that White won't come off as inconsequential if they do it right...in a sense, whatever happens in #22 probably couldn't have happened without him :v

I will sit firmly on the fence for this continuation debate by saying we use both immediate and a jump ahead.

I can handle the PTS taking place right where Casino Royale left off. Bond escaping by the use of gun fire and physical fighting only. No larger than life jumps, no gadgets, no "drive through the forest on boats -like city streets *cough* *cough* Pierce that stank! *cough!*" -just a good old fashioned boat chase/fight for survival.

Then, jump the story ahead a bit -say one year. Bond learns more of the organization, the organization learns more of Bond and cue the inevitable collision between the two.

Wow, this stuff writes itself. :D

Mr. White's timely tidbit: the Organization is not a top-down enterprize but more of an equal-shares partnership, a sort of round table of crime. I say this because I can't think of what the money is ultimately for, so it must simply be about money, and this is how businessmen would do it IMHO. And, didn't Fleming sort of hint at SPECTRE being so set up? Yeah there was Blofeld, but the impetus for the other big numbers was profit-sharing, IIRC.

Of course, Haggis has probably thought up some fantastic endgame, and that's what it'll all be about, whatever he came up with. I just like the idea of a reinvented SPECTRE, can't quite seem to get rid of it--yet. ;)

I don't agree that CR's ending was limp.

I feel that the film actually "ended" in Venice with Bond's telephone call with M. The piece at the Lakeside villa could easily have been missed out and included as part of the pre-titles of Bond22. To have it included in CR shows that the EON just wanted to tie up loose ends.

I see CR as a journey where the principal character "becomes" James Bond 007. The fact that there was none of the James Bond Theme in the movie at all implies this. Once the mission is over and the character's journey is complete he can utter the line, "Bond.....James Bond!" and it ends with the James Bond theme over the end titles - fantastic!

I am looking forward to seeing part of this piece in the pre-credits for Bond22 and the boat chase across the lake. I too think that Mr White will not be in Bond22 for much, but be killed off in the pre-titles to be replaced by Mr Green.

I always assumed that there would be a boat chase on Lake Como during the pre-credits, but when I heard that there was to be a water-based action sequence shot in Panama, I was less sure. Couldn't really imagine there being more than one action scene in boats. Time shall tell though!

I think some miss the point that part of what made CR so popular (in my opinion) is HOW different it was than the same old same old. I loved the differences – its what has drawn me into Bond fandom for real – I used to just enjoy the films from time to time.

And seriously – a FORTY year franchise can be ruined for you by events in one movie? Good grief, were that the case for me, I would have jettisoned the series after some particularly bad Roger Moore bits.

CBn and MI6 have both reported that a lake in Italy is likely to be used as a location for #22:

    http://commanderbond.net/article/4794

Lago Di Garda is a mountain lake in Northern Italy...I wouldn't be surprised if this lake 'stands in' for Lake Como (from the end of CR) for the purposes of water action...

Then again, MI6 talks about much of the reported shooting being planned for along the shore---and through the winding streets of nearby towns, with a possible tie-in to a rumoured car chase through the Italian Alps, so...who knows? ;% MI6 says these scenes will take place 'early' in the film...

Of course - QT has exclusive rights to colours...

Anyway, doesnt a boat chase sound a little TWINE? I personally wished theyd return to the days of a big stunt ala MR or TSWLM. Nice. Simple. Effective.

    Okay. Now that's over...

New stuff from CBn on possible film opening goodies (SPOILER WARNING!!!!):

"A car chase at Lago di Garda---with speeds up to 200 km/h (roughly 125 MPH) will also reportedly be featured with overtaking and manoeuvres in a series of tunnels. An explosion at the end of the sequence will result from several motorists and a truck that try to avoid the cars engaged in the chase." B-)

I have heard from a good source that a recce of Pananma was occuring re a boat sequence... Why not have Bond and Leiter working together in the Middle East on a job on a rogue state trying to get Nuclear weapons!!! Sounds like a real mission...:007)

Yes, but it was QT's idea to steal the idea. He will gripe that Eon stole the idea of stealing the idea from him. :p
