Apologies if this was covered while I was AWOL over the New Year - but on the Quantum of Solace website, I noticed that both Babs and Mickey were awarded OBEs in the New Years Honour list for services to the film industry! Congrats to them both! {[]

    What is an OBE?
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

It's an order of merit awarded by the British government and bestowed in person by Her Majesty The Queen at an investiture ceremony. Stands for Officer of the British Empire; the one below is MBE (Member) and there are two above CBE (Commander) and KBE/DBE (Knight/Dame Commander, allowing use of the title Sir/Dame if they are British citizens).

I didn't know about this though, good find jetset!! I would've have thought that in the usual newspieces about the New Year Honours it would've have mentioned it, considering Bond is a bit of a big deal movie wise!

Regardless, congratulations to them both! {[]

Congratulations to Babs and Mickey. {[] I have just one question; did Cubby ever get one?
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

He was an honourary CBE. Odd, it being honourary- I would have thought he'd have been a citizen.

Nope--Cubby did business in the UK, but he remained a Yank all his life.

I remember spotting it in at least a couple of newspapers, can still find the mention in the Daily Mirror of the 29th December (can't find another), what I also noticed was that they only mentioned Barbara (is she British born?), no mention of Michael. It has also been mentioned on (dare I say?) at least one other Bond site.

    Dare away :))

I don't recall seeing the news in any newspaper but I did see it on the BBC's Ceefax pages. It did seem to kinda slip through under the radar though.

The newspapers didn't shout about it, just listed Barbara's name along with the others in showbusiness.
