I am a bit worried about the shiny surface of the GG.

    It seems to me either

    1. extremely glossy gold-plating on real metal, which would be cool
    2. a cheap coating on resin, which would be really disappointing.

I would'nt worry, remember these are the prototypes and such things will be refined for the finished version. The SE is indeed going to be a signature edition with plaque signed by Christopher Lee.

I just hope they keep the release guns the same as the one we see here...

The gun in the photo is gold plated brass i am sure.

when you look at many SD studios guns they are dull and chuncky. still works of art but this replica from master replicas is a rembrant LOL

this gun is deffinetly more impressive.

I want this I will even enter a gun battle to get one.

that would be pretty cool. a big gun battle with everypne from the forums.

outdoor paint ball .. or lazer quest of course...

    LOL

So far so good i hope they remember to add the ruby on the cigarette case that would be perfect.

Prop collecting addiction or hobby, who cares. :)

All I care about is getting one of these it is a true work of art.

Who agrees with me that it beats the SD guns?

or am I just so taken with this prop that it can do no wrong LOL

    cheers

I agree it will be a must have...but I do hope they change the case...it seems like they created this one quickly for the show but an actual one should be a bit smaller and SNUG, like a gun carrying case...

Yup; it is the exact same case they issued for the silver car models a few months ago. Hopefully they just adjusted it for this occasion only, but something better could (should ?) be achieved.
  • scaramangasgoldengunscaramangasgoldengun ScotlandPosts: 1,388MI6 Agent
yes well spotted the same case as the cars ..

I would be happy about it coming in this case.

any guesses as to how much these guns will. be

    I am guessing about $600 U.S.

    and £300 - £400 UK

just a shot in the dark

I agree this Gun is by far more exact than that of the S.D studios version and to some better & nicer, but if they're going all out with a functioning lighter and cuff-link, a ruby wouldn't hurt, ask any S.D studios second generation GG owner and they will tell you the ruby makes the Gun look nicer than just having it all gold.

I will still purchase the Gun but i would hope it will have a ruby like the original.

sorry but I should know this friend

did the original film used 3 version guns or any of them wither it be the cap firing / solid or disasembly gun. did any of them have a ruby in the handle / cigarette case. I have watched bits of the film over and over and I can't see it.

I supose MR want to make theres a bit different so they may not use the ruby.

I would love it personally if it was just all gold and the extra is that you are able to pop the bullet in the back of the lighter like the real film prop

I am sure you have all seen the picture of Mr Lee loading the bullet. into the gun

its also on TMWTGG gallery on DVD.

Yes, it is a beautiful item, it cannot be denied, and I will aim to get one when they come out, for sure !

I also have an SD Studios GG, but IMHO, this SD item will never be able to be replaced, for the simple reason that it found it's moment in JB memorabilia history, and it will remain there forever, no matter what.

There are, for example, many versions of the Corgi Aston Martin 261, some even gold plated etc. But the '66 version can never be replaced.

Yes, at least one of the GG had a ruby on the cigarette case, in the book The Secret World of James Bond the GG shown there clearly shows the ruby on the top left of the cigarette case a small bump on the side of the case and across from the Cuff-link.

I supose MR want to make theres a bit different so they may not use the ruby.

    037 Scaramanga.
Now why would Master Replicas want to make there's different or distintive from the original prop, if they Master in replicas they ought to be as close to the original prop as possible, they could have just overlooked this detail like others have.

The picture you speak of was just a promo, like the teaser poster, one can see the hand with the bullet indicating where the bullet would be placed, but it is never shown actually being loaded in the gun, that's because that particular GG (since there are several) has an original molectric lighter, yes the top opens just like a lighter should, but there is no hole or even a slot where the bullet would go in, but what you can see is the mechanism of a lighter, the tiny hole is where the flame comes out of.

its also on TMWTGG gallery on DVD.

some nice information there Leo. Thanks I am glad I have you on board for the Golden gun section.

Looking at the picture you speak of I see it thanks.

Chrostopher lee has said in the deleted duel in the film '' I see this bond trick the thermos cansiter bomb coming through the air towards me and I run and shoot it before it kills me, I then took an extra bullet from my belt buckle and placed it into the breech of the gun''

that might not be word for word but that sums up what he said.

so I take it one of the guns could have housed a bullet in the back of the lighter possibly the plain solid version or the one which broke down or the cap firing version....will we ever know.

also I read in the book 'the art of bond'

that one of the golden guns could fire blanks. and christopher lee siad it fire a cap in the barrel so you saw the flash .

I am more towards chrostopher lee he is the man with the golden gun.
  • 037 Scaramanga037 Scaramanga FloridaPosts: 160MI6 Agent
Yes, one gun did fire caps or blanks and it was the solid gun, this gun is seen when Scaramanga shoots from the window, the gun is very similar to the S.D studios first generation GG, the obvious difference is the pen, take a close look at that gun and the gun being assembled by Scaramanga before shooting Hi-fat, two different guns, as far as i know there were 3 to 4 guns used, one gun was magnetic but could not stay together nice concept but it didn't work when shooting scenes, i believe i have a picture of that gun, i will look.

Is there any evidence for the ruby on the original prop? I've seen a couple of screen used ones in the past but never noted the ruby? Also, how many versions were made, including the special made for CL. And CL has indeed told many a tale of how he loaded the breech of the GG with a round from his belt. Seems that even now, in this day and age, that several aspects of this prop are missing and/or lacking. Time to pool your knowledge together folks and nail this once and for all. This is, afterall, the best source of Bond prop knowledge on the net, right here on AJB. Go to it...

Does anyone have any updates as to when these guns are going to be available? I haven't seen anything on the MR site for quite some time.

These are gorgeous guns but I agree with an earlier poster that nothing will beat the SD Studios Gun as a collectible. For the baseball card collectors out there...it's the same thing as a rookie card...the first one is always the most desirable as a collectible.

I sold my SD (sigh) but it financed a rather nice watch purchase so I am at peace with the decision. However, I eagerly await the issue of this gun.

I am developing a brand new fully working functional replica... all Gold Plated etc etc .. wiritng pen .. lightable lighter.. wearable cuff link and useable cigarette case.. and the gun will fire a dummy round... and take a Golden Bullet....

also making to go With it .. Scaramanga's belt buckle with bullets... on that also..

in regards to the MR ..... does anyone have access to that prototype which they displayed at the toy fair some time ago with corgi items....

that prototype could be replicated and put into production...

I think the main issues with MR and there Bond replicas... is copyright ....

either that ..... or Business is very slow at the moment...

or they are going downhill and out

    who knows
  • The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
The "proto" they used was Steve Dymszo's personal Golden Gun which they used to take measurements etc...all Bond props for MR have seemed to stall and several people who worked for them in this regard are no longer with MR. :(
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
so is MR releasing this GG prop then?

is this the first of many?

or is it all just a 'what could have been'?

Ah, Golden Gun yes this is my subject, i own three SD studio Golden Guns and wouldn't mind adding master Replicas to the collection, but i knew early on the MR Golden Gun was going to be dropped.

Dang i really want this piece :(, hopefully one day the MR prototype will come up on auction.
