In my signature are three links to some instrumental tracks I did recently. They're only valid for a week (ie till March 8). Please feel free to download them. They're free, and I hope you like them- please post any thoughts good or bad!

(A friend of a friend gave me some music software which I spent a happy 48 hours playing with. I don't usually play with synths and sequencers- normally I play guitar, bass or piano- but I enjoyed the change!)

My thanks to The Cat for arranging the links.

    I'll bet you did! {[]

My best friend, (who's also 13 years my senior and music mentor), introduced me to the joys of synths & sequencers.

Beautiful experimentals. Especially track seven's exquisite arrangements. I have a few new drinking mpgs now!

Something tells me in a crowded local watering hole, you're ace with just an accoustic ovation cutaway and a mike. Gimme some Scot vocals and a smoke filled tavern. (probably entitled the Bloody Beans?) {[] {[]

(Now if only my fellow Mod, M5, would send those airplane tickets :D

{[] Thanks Alex! Track 7 (it's called "The Coldest Corner") is my favourite, too.

(PS Spot on re the Ovation cutaway- how did you know that?? It's a bass I'm playing in my avatar, not the Ovation!)

I honestly don't have an answer :)) , Likely just a lucky guess. It's been my experience though, an experienced piano also equates killer frets,
or maybe I was channeling my last axe, I dunno.

    Either way, that's a big -{ !

You've had the smoke filled pub, I'm afraid - it's banned here! :p

Found myself if The Sheiling (God knows why, it's very Phoenix Nights) on Saturday night there, Barbel. One of my mates wanted to go as the duo that were playing played their wedding (forget their name). Was very, um, atmospheric! :)) It was the joyous claim of "I'm pished!!" from one of the barmaids that just seemed to seal the evening's entertainment :))

(Oh, and during an instrumental section, the guitarist calling my mate over and asking him if he was going to the Morton game, over the microphone {[] )

Yup, that's The Sheiling, all right. Probably the same barmaid I was talking about earlier, too. We're back there soon, May 10th, for more of that, um, atmosphere :D . Perhaps not the ideal watering hole to introduce Alex to Scottish culture.

(We played there the night Scotland got kicked out of the World Cup. During the soundcheck, I said "2 - 1" into my mike rather than "1 - 2", to a chorus of resigned groans. Later we dedicated a blues to Alex McLeish- "Before You Accuse Me" :)) )

Well, my musical knowledge exceeds my computer know-how! I had to talk nice to The Cat to get him to do the links for me; maybe some live stuff next? Perhaps some covers rather than original work. And thanks!

Sounds like a great idea :)

Perhaps we should have an AJB outing to come see you live :D

I’ve been asked to provide some details, so-

    1) TAXIMAN JOE I wrote this about a close friend of mine- it’s all true. All instruments played by my friend Nick and myself.

    2) DIG Written by Nick and me, about being stuck on a motorway (the M73, as it happens) because of unexplained cones. This is a live recording, I’m on bass.

    3) SLOW DOWN Again live, a blues jam.

    4) THE STATION Solo, live; I start with a few bars from “Two Lochs” (below) before going into the lyrics.

    5) TWO LOCHS Perhaps my favourite of these tracks. I’m on guitar, Nick is playing everything else. This was inspired by the scenery around Lochs Ewe and Maree.

    6) NORWAY Me happily rambling away on synth.

This may be the first time I've revived a topic so old. Shameless self-promotion follows:

My band, The Skunnered, are playing at Paisley Town Hall on March 30th at 19.30GMT. The gig will be broadcast on Celtic Music Radio locally on 1530AM and will also be available worldwide online through the link below. Hope you can tune in!

(I also hope we get a better sound engineer than the last time we did something like this... 8-) )

Apologies for the bump. One week tonight, Tuesday 30th, my band The Skunnered can be heard over the Net at the address below.

Man, whilst the live music be playing, I be working ...

I always miss shows due to work. :(

We should all quit and form the AJB. (Absolutely Jammin' Boys)

Have a great show, Skunnered. :007)

Thank you Alex! When we form that band, I claim bass.

If I have to play the six string I'd better bone up on my skills. (now, where'd I put my capo?)

And M5 can head security. There's no one I trust better throwing out disrespectful drunks :D

    I hope the show went well. -{
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,865Chief of Staff
That it did, Alex, thanks. We're still waiting to hear the recordings, but it went well from our POV!

And as a side-note, today our website (see below) topped one million hits.

Thanks, Jarvio! That one was cut as a demo, but we're thinking of not re-recording it and just issuing it as is.

Recently my band were asked to create a jingle for one of our local radio stations, which we happily did. It's been very popular, and played frequently Mon-Fri. Their Sunday morning DJ then asked us to write one for him too, which was debuted two days ago. It's an intriguing sideline we never thought of! Both can be heard (they're very short, of course, each being under a minute which is the nature of jingles) by clicking on the link below.
