Count me in for one too. I'd rather have it dyed if everyone goes along with the cost of that.

The T&A staff in the UK sound as though they are ashamed of one of their own products if you can't wear one in the store without a sneer.

I'd hate to hear the response upon asking for one.

    Here's my headcount:

    urhash (me) 1x
    coldheart 2x
    jonny-dh 1x or 2x
    herr michael 1x
    strangeways 2x

    That's 8 so far.

I agree with those who say if the tie is still available at T&A (which seems questionable at this point), it would make sense to get the real deal. We'll see what happens when strangeways visits T&A this weekend. But everyone listed above (unless I'm mistaken) are in for a replica if it is not.

I'm enormously anal when it comes to details, so if anyone is willing to provide any reference photos or closeups from their personal collection, I can do my best to make it as close as possible. I'm talking about little details such as the position of the placement of the pattern with respect to the bottom of the tie, physical dimensions of the tie, etc, etc.

I'm willing to pore over the details, but someone needs to help! :)

I could be in for one if it's done in woven silk and T & A have none.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
    Thanks Devon. That makes 9.

I'd like to make it a bit collaborative in nature, so as I'm reworking/improving on the pattern in photoshop for Magnoli, I can post up a 'swatch' of it here and get everyone's input and feedback for things like the color tone. I'd like everyone to feel comfortable with the direction of the replica and maybe we'll also benefit from some comments from actual owners of the tie.

Any other takers? We're almost there!

I have just got back from Turnbul and Asser.
They had every pattern of tie available to man, but sadly none of the 007 ones.
That means I am deffo in for TWO of the Mangoli replicas.

Thanks for checking out the availability for us, strangeways.

With that in mind, I'm moving forward with the replica. I spent the better part of the afternoon starting from scratch with the pattern in Photoshop. Last time around I fudged little details to make it work - this time I took a more measured (literally) approach to laying down the lines and spacing.

    Here's a 'swatch' of it...

I reckon it's not as exciting as seeing a piece of Madagascar shirt fabric lol, but this should give you an idea of where its heading.

Any feedback on color? I didn't spend much time tweaking that yet.

The colour looks good, but in reality the tie was more metallic and subdued (i.e the yellow was more gold etc.), the pattern was also three dimensional due to the multi-directional weave and heavy silk. It's difficult to explain - maybe someone could post a hi-res picture of an actual tie from different angles under different lighting.

I could 'fake' some of those attributes you mentioned in Photoshop, but it seems some of it will depend on how it's actually produced by Magnoli (ie. weave, weight). How does the pattern compare?

P.S. if someone could post pics of tie as Asp9mm suggested that would be a HUGE help...

I've spoken with Indy a bit more about this and he feels it would be worth it to seek out someone with a real copy of the tie who can either provide real close up pictures or be willing to loan it to Indy for him to copy. Does anyone here have one?

Here is a VERY hi-res picture that T&A sent me when I was going to buy this tie (which they sold to someone else)

    BIG thanks! :)

Just want to let everyone know I sent measurements and a ton of pics (movie & documentary screencaps, sruzgar's closeup) to Magnoli, so the ball is rolling. :) I'll keep you posted on any major developments.

Hello, please count me in for one as well, thanks.

I always quite liked the Goldeneye St Petersberg tank tie - was that Brioni though?

I believe Sulka. Ties & Shirts for Goldeneye were from Sulka.

Has this thread gone cold now?
I am still well up for the ties.
    Anyone else still 100% certain?

    I'm still in for one.

    Hey Strangeways,
Thanks to sruzgar's really high res scan of the tie (6800x9359!!!), Magnoli is confident he will be able to replicate it and is moving forward with the project. He's waiting till he receives Asp's TND swatch so that he can simultaneously submit both projects to his tie production guy.

He told me production should take about 2 weeks, and pending approval of a prototype, another 2 weeks to produce all the ties for everyone who's committed to buying. :)

Far from dead. The swatch has been sent along with pictures and a full tie for pattern placement reference.

All waiting on Indy now, hopefully we should have some news soon, in the meantime please help us keep the thread in the public eye and on the first page.

Asp, if these two turn out well, are there any other bond ties you have that would be worth replicating?

The blue DAD tie with circles is nice, as is the gold and blue TND tie worn on arrival and meeting Q. Unfortunately both mine wore out long ago through use and abuse. How about the classic knitted black tie from the novels and Connery's early films?

Is Indy replicating all three that we've discussed (TND, TWINE boat-chase and TWINE black herringbone)?

Magnoli isn't doing the herringbone one... I've talked with T&A about it and they're gonna check their stock and get back to me on Monday, although they are optimistic they have it available.

Actually Magnoli did mention to me he had an interest in doing one of the slimjim black ties from the Connery movies. I'm not sure if he's gotten off the ground with that, perhaps he needs some closeups.

P.S. Everyone has spoken highly about the DAD circle tie.. is yours worn out beyond recognition/replication? =P

Does anyone have a picture of the black heringbone tie?

I threw it out a while back unfortunately. Same with the TND tie which was 11 years ago :o That pulled terribly and looked awful after only a couple of months or so. That's the problem with the black herringbone tie. I've had a few in different colours, and they have all pulled badly due to the wide stitching which is very easily caught.

Urhash, can you post pictures of my silver one for Simon, I deleted them off my laptop. Thanks.

    No problem.

Here is Asp's herringbone tie in silver... the version in TWINE is black as worn in Bilbao and Azerbaijan.

I have the DAD blue circle tie....wear it rarely so still in good nick...

    what do we need?...

    A close up?... :p

or a pic similar to the dreadful shot above by ASP9mm of that truely dreadful herringbone nightmare ? :s

    :))
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
Hahhaha I guess it looks better on screen. ;)

We have no immediate plans to pursue the DAD circle tie (I think everyone wants to see how the first two turn out), but at least to have it 'on file' so to speak, perhaps you could provide us with pictures...

Do you have a scanner? That seemed to be really effective (as sruzgar's pic shows), as it can show extreme detail down to the weave of the fabric. In addition to that, a broader picture to show the overall placement of the pattern with respect to the tie would be round it out. :) If you don't have a scanner, everything could still be done with a camera.

Asp, do you have a pic of yourself wearing the Q-boat tie? One thing I haven't been able to find (despite poring through documentaries, stills, etc) is a pic of the tie without someone wearing a vest over it.
