Quite right...they really must have caught Sir Sean in a good mood---it's really a nice little interview about Bond.
Also excellent is John Cork's essay on the Bond legacy---I agree with pretty much everything he says, especially the part where he says that Fleming's books ought to be read... B-)

Nice interview.
Connery has certainly complained about the role before, but he sometimes betrays a definite fondness for the character. I always thought that if he hated Bond as much as he sometimes claimed to, he'd never do something like land on the David Letterman show with a Thunderball jetpack, for example.
I have to think that his feelings about Bond are sort of like the John, Paul, George and Ringo's feeling about the Beatles: love-hate. It must be hard to be defined forever in the public mind for a single thing. But at the same time, you can't help but be proud to have made such a mark, especially when success was in no way guaranteed.
One thing that I have to say about ol' Sean, as combative as he can be sometimes: he's never had an unkind word (that I've read, anyway) about any of his successors in the role. And he's always been rather modest about his performance as Bond, when he very easily could have taken all the credit for the series' success -- and credibly, too.
Yes and no! NSNA suggests he can't take too much sole credit. It's clear you need a great producers, great direction, a good script, great stunts, terrific score etc behind you to be arrogant and suave with credibility.

Seriously -- yes, of course. But actors and their fans often don't realize that films are a group effort. Connery, to his credit, does. That's all I'm saying.
One humorous side note: on my outbound flight to Denver last Sunday (also on United) the flight attendant announced that "today's in-flight movie will be a James Bond film...The Golden Compass." The mind boggles.
