Has everyone else gotten their ties yet?
  • jonny-dhjonny-dh Posts: 257MI6 Agent
I haven't received the ties yet, but I ordered them late. Sorry, again. I was out of town. I'll let you know when they get here.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
No need to apologize. :) Was just checking to see if everyone had gotten theirs or if anyone had run into any problems.

    Hi

I just thought you might recognize this tie... in another color though. BTW, I've even seen it in pink! http://cgi.ebay.com/TURNBULL-ASSER-Mans-Silk-Necktie-Tie-Geometric_W0QQitemZ370067794977QQihZ024QQcategoryZ86645QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Turnbull & Asser are absolutely color-bind when it comes to creating their ties. :p

Notice how the pattern on the tie lines up on the ebay auction?

Actually that's severely misaligned. It would be perfectly aligned if the bottom most diamond patch were perfectly centered over the bottom point of the tie.

That was what I was meaning. I was referring to earlier when someone thought that Magnoli's tie looked slightly unaligned. I'd be interested in getting the ebay tie just for the sake of comparison to Magnoli's, and owning the authentic tie.

OOOps!! Sorry being late to answer but I've been a few days out on holidays.

About the weight, obviously the herringbone T&A fabric is a little bit heavier and thicker than Indy's tie, but little too far. However, I find the touch of Indy's tie a little silkier and less sturdy. Hope I've shed a little light about the matter.

I am convinced that the colours on the T&A tie on eBay are correct. If you watch TND closely, you can see that it is red and blue.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
I'm pretty sure the tie is brown which can appear reddish under certain lighting...
  • StrangewaysStrangeways London, UKPosts: 1,469MI6 Agent
OK. I'll go with that, Dan!

It's a copper color that can appear to look reddish in certain lighting and from a certain distance. I have the original T & A tie.

Got mine today, cheers Indy {[]. I have to say that I prefer these to the T&A ones. Much les prone to wear and pulling, a very very slight subdued colour compared to the slightly and now garish originals. I'm well impressed. Well done {[]

High praise indeed Asp =D Mission accomplished

Care to comment on the weight of the ties as well? (vs. T&A)

From what I remember not far off at all. The T&A ties were thicker and more rigid, but I still prefer Magnoli's for practical day to day wear.

....and I was right about them not pulling as easily as T&A ties {[]

    Is there a test? lol

Altho for me, whenever I cut my nails my fingers become practically velcro to fabric!

If I weren't so broke I'd love to order extra ties right now... :(

I just received the TWINE Thames tie and it is very good quality.. Now I will place the order for the TND tie and count me in for the Tank tie...

I received my two ties earlier today, and am very impressed. The detail is impeccable, especially for the cost. As far as the thickness (weight) goes, the TND tie is thinner than my other ties, while the TWINE tie is about as thick as my Burberry and Armani ties. I'm looking forward to the next ties in the making.

By the way, are you going to make a second tie at the same time in the next run (tank tie) like you did with the last. And let me know if you manage to talk T&A into bringing back another Bond tie design. Thanks again.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
No plans to do two at the same time. No one has the original copper tie (the runner up) so it would take a bit of research and watching the DVD at .25x speed looking for clear frames and I just don't have that much time at the moment. :)

Don't a few people on AJB have some of the various ties? If there are some of the original ties available for close examination, perhaps that would raise some interest. I would personally rather have any tie over no tie. But I don't want to sound unappreciative. I am very thankful that there are people with initiative on here like you and Magnoli. I look forward to the Tank tie, and thanks again for making it possible to acquire these beautiful ties.

If someone else wants to take the lead on that, they're certainly welcome... there's more than enough people who showed interest in the TND copper tie to get the ball rolling on that. :)

But after the Tank tie, will you be pursuing another tie design?

On a side note, I'm going to New York sometime next month, and I'm going to be stopping off at T&A and looking through the ties. Should I just assume look for myself, or should I ask if they have any of the particular ties that I'm looking for? (describing them, instead of saying that they were Bond ties, of course)
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
Yes, I'd like to pursue another tie project after this. The TND copper tie and the DAD blue circle tie are at the top of my to-do list. :)

As for T&A NY... they had the TND Hamburg tie in late November but as of January they had nothing. The only "Bond ties" you MIGHT find there are the standard issues which Hemming picked up off the rack (for ex. the herringbone tie, the red tie with the yellow dots). The Jermyn St T&A seems to generally carry the herringbone line for example, whereas the store in NY did not (hence all those custom orders).

I would guess any of the Hemming commissioned designs won't be available, unless they had a few lying in the back which they brought out. Let us know what you see! :)

To be honest it doesn't make a big difference to me.... I am not in it from a collector's standpoint to own all the originals. Obviously I would prefer if T&A still manufactures them, but if not I am just as happy to have Magnoli work his magic and produce some damn fine replicas which are more affordable and accessible to the many ajb007'ers here.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
Oh - realize I did not answer your question haha. It seems you're less likely to be on the receiving end of the staff's opprobrium if you ask about Bond in T&A NY as opposed to Jermyn St. You can read Mantis's great story about visiting the NY store and getting the full Bond treatment.
  • satanamasatanama SPAINPosts: 59MI6 Agent
OK, let's try to make this clear. What T&A told me was that they usually have three Bond ties, the two one done by Magnoli and the DAD blue circle one. From time to time they run out of these three ties... UNTIL they make new ones. This is the reason you might go today and they won't have any (or some) of these ties, BUT if you go to T&A in another three months or so they might have these three ties. But these three are the only ones they make again and again as they run out of them.

What about the other Bond ties? I specifically asked them about this and they told me they didn't have the licence to produce them.

About T&A staff, I might be wrong on this, but AFAIK, they're just salesman who last year were working in e.g. Dunhill's, Gucci's, etc., I mean whatever shop and who knows where they'll be in another one or two years or so. This is the reason they couldn't care less about any Bond related apparel.

Urhash, if what they told me above is true, I don't see the point of having Magnoli do the DAD blue circle tie if it (will/MIGHT) be available from T&A sometime in the future.

It would just be for the price, and that Magnoli makes them more readily available.

Urhash, which red tie with yellow dots are you talking about? And thanks for your answer. Also, should I just email Kevin (or someone at the NY T&A) and describe the DAD blue circles tie, to see if they have one?
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
Sure, you could do that. He'll know what's on the showroom. :)
