Any Hunter S. Thompson fans out there?

Hey, just wondering if there are any die hard Hunter S. Thompson fans on AJB? Over the year or so I've become a huge fan of Thompson's work. I've never before read an author whose words I identified with more!

Also, If there are any Gonzo fans, what are your favorite works of his? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is my absolute favorite, of course. I also love The Rum Diary and am in the process of reading The Great Shark Hunt and loved The Kentucky Derby is Decidant and Depraved! I also just read Screw-Jack and loved how bizarre it was!

Check out his Hells Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, a more conventional book but his first, I believe. And of course his Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, a classic about the Nixon-McGovern presidential contest.

I'm a HUGE fan---the least of his works are worth your time. Las Vegas is probably my favourite, but... :v

Aside from the already mentioned titles, check out "Generation of Swine" (a collection of newspaper columns from the '80s), "Kingdom of Fear" (another retrospective along the lines of Shark Hunt, but covering more recent misadventures)---and pretty much everything the man wrote.

You will not be disappointed. I never was, except---perhaps---by Rum Diary. As great a writer as HST was, he was also a failed novelist, and IMO Diary is the proof.

His suicide is the ultimate, and final, irony. Only Hunter could kill Hunter B-)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've actually been planning on reading all of his works. It just might take me a little time. I still have to finish The Great Shark Hunt and I still haven't read Devil May Care;) But Hells Angels and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail are next on my list.

Can't really say I'm a fan of the man, but I've liked both movies made about him. In my youth, he would have been fun company on a bender.

Just bought the new documentary on HST, "Gonzo." An absolute must-see for any HST fan!
