thanks for that I have emailed him no reply as yet ..

does anyone within the UK have an old worn out one or a good conditioned one they would be willing to part with ....

thats the funny thing this gun probibly means very little to an air gun collector probibly an average pistol and old gun.. but its more to A Bond fan...

    funny that

one mans junk is another mans treasures

The Walther LP is a fine, and accurate air pistol - no ones "junk" by any means. I would think it would have more appeal to a shooter than a Bond collector.

After all it made only one accidential appearance as a "Bond Gun" in a single 1963 photo session. It's really too bad it did, since those pictures are really good, and would have been even better with a PPK!

    ;)

I gotta say I think Bond wolding the ppk in those photos would not have had the impact as it did with the air pistol...

the fact is long cool guns have more of an impact look at dirty harrys magnum would he have looked as cool with a small revolver and not the long bareled magnum 44 or even the shorter magnum...

I love the walther LP 53 and I love th ehistorical aspect of the photo shoot behind it.

I used to have the Polish copy, a Predom Lucznik, which I got because of the difficulty in finding an LP53, but when I found one I sold the Predom to fund that purchase. I wish I took photos while I had them together.

theres a nice website showing the comparisons between both guns... the walther is far superious by far

the only problem is the entire website is if a forgien language ...so I can't make out what it's saying...

can I ask you how good a gun is the walther in terms of performance etc

Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity as well to make a deliberate comparison in accuracy, etc. In fact, I haven't really fired the pistols all that much, though I did buy pellets for them and only for shooting at things in the yard like a kid. When I did have the Predom, I crafted something like a prosthetic to cover a gap in one's teeth, since there was a gap above the trigger guard that visually made it distinct from the Walther, as it was that image of the Walther I was after.

I don't know how keen you are but I have an 'as new' LP53 that I may be tempted to sell. It's in the original box with the manual, wooden cocking block (important to collectors), all three rear sights, three foresights and even the cleaning rod. This is very collectable to air pistol enthusiasts as well collectors of 007 memorabilia!
The bad news is I've turned down an offer of £200 in the past - do you want to improve on that?
    Regards,
    Richard

    Hi - Newbie here.
I came across this site whilst searching for Walther airgun related material.

I have a mint LP53 in it's original box with the wooden barrel insert (to aid cocking), and spare rear and fore sights.

Sadly I'm missing the cleaning rod that was included with the it.

I bought mine from a dealer 15 or so years ago and I remember him telling me that at the time Walther also produced a limited edition James Bond commorative version which was in a snazzy box with Sean Connery on the front and had a certificate of authenticity.

Great air pistol - they really don't make them like this anymore.

Nope they dont your are right there....

    welcome to the forums ....

Yes I have heard rumours about such a version of the gun myself.... in a James Bond box... but never actualy seen any images or proof of it...

I did however see something relating to it in a vintage air gun article showing sean connery holding the gun and an advertisment for the gun... but I am not 100% sure if this is anything to do with the version you are talking about...

As I said what ..a ...gun .. I simply love my walther LP 53 air pistol.... 10/10 one of my absolutely favorite props in my collection please check out my website to see my gun and lots of other porps and replicas...

    thanks

I used to have the whole set.
    I had an LP 2
    LP 3
    and an LP 3 Match.

I sold the first two when I was short of money. I wish I hadn't but thank goodness I had the sense not to sell the 53.

Coincidentally - I also own a 1998 BMW R1200C Cruiser motorcycle that was used in the bike / helicopter chase sequence in tomorrow never dies.

Even now, 10 years later other riders still come up to me and say "ah - it's the James Bond bike"

Just goes to show the power of product placement.

Back to the LP53 and the story I heard was that in the photoshoot the pistol was used in, Connery was supposed to be holding a Walther PPK but the props dept. forgot to bring it, so one of the crew rushed home to get his LP53 which was used.

Is this true, or just myth ?

From what I remember he didn't have to rush home for it, he had it with him, it was the photographers. It (the original, FRWL poster version) was sold at auction a few years ago.

Hi! I am not a JB collector, but I light upon your site whilst looking for old air weapons.

I have a Walther LP53 air pistol in very good condition, with it's card box and wooden cocking aid (which pushes onto the barrel over the foresight)
I also have the Polish copy - Predom Lucknik, unboxed but in first class condition.

If anyone is still interested, email me with SENSIBLE offers for either or both, or for more details/pics.

    Regards, Jim

sounds nice but I have my pride and joy LP 53 ... or else I would have been interested...

    ok

the story of how this gun came about as a bond gun is no myth .....

Connery arrived in London with a few members of the cast and crew and i think 1 of the producers to do some publicity and promotional shots for FRWL.... in the photographers studio.... Connery was wearing his dinner suit and no one could find a walther for him to hold....

a bit of a panic broke out amongst the studio .. and the photographers.. the Photographer had a Walther LP 53 in his car as he went target shooting as a hobby.... so it was used and no one told connery or the producers ,, that it was the wrong gun....

The idea was that when the photo graphs were produced the long barrel would be air brished out but this was never done... however in some of the FRWL film posters the long barrel is removed... but it still cant be passed off as a PPK..

the air pistol in my opinion was a stoke of fate... i think the long barreld and sleek looking pistol had a bigger impact than what a small PPK gun would have had in the smae poses and posters...

there is more information about the guns and its story on my website in the Connery props section..

I've got a mint Lp53 that belonged to my Grand father. With box all sights cocking knob and cleaning rod . also has factory test target.
I am trying to check its date of manufacture with Walther.
Don't have a clue about Intl. shipping an item like this but. I will offer it for sale any how.
Perhaps a Canadian collector might find this.
I can send photos to interested parties.

It must be from the sixties as it has been in my family since then.

I just decided to sell my Walther LP53, cal. 4.5 and found this chat room. This is my first time on a chat room. I bought it in 1977 in the US. It has the black grip, ser # 123563. I fired it less than 50 times. It is in the original brown box with the original parts: cleaning rod, cocking block, 2 rear sights and one front sight, warranty and booklet in 3 languages. It looks perfect except for a very small trianglular area where bluing is worn off where the cocking block hits the front of the barrel - about 1/8 inch at the widest part. I didn't even notice it until I looked very closely. It has the regular Walther engraving on the left side. On the opposite side, it is engraved with INTERARMS ALEXANDRIA, with MADE IN GERMANY on the second line. I have the original invoice from Beeman's Precision Airguns, Inc. in San Rafael, California. It is dated March 15, 1977. The price was $120 in 1977. The box has been moved around a lot over the years, so one of the corners on the lid is separated and it has a few knicks and marks on it. I have no idea yet what the package is worth, other than what I have read (maybe 260 pounds - I haven't checked what that is in dollars), so I need to do some research. Please let me know if you are interested and what you might be willing to offer. I can send pictures, of course. If you are concerned about my honesty, I am a CPA registered both in North Carolina and California (you can go on-line and check that I am registered with both State Accounting Boards if you are serious and we get to the trading names stage. I would likely loose my licenses if someone reported I was dishonest. I would charge for the shipping cost, over and above the agreed-upon price.
