QoS Sunglasses Tutorial

I am over the moon excited about the limited edition Oliver Peoples Sunglasses that will soon be released. But I am keenly aware that $500 for many people is a bit dear to spend on something they may soon sit on or forget at the gas station. But why should any Bond fan be without this crisp, clean look?.....so I offer to you the QoS Sunglasses Tutorial. With these $16.99 pair of sunglasses, a dremel tool, and five minutes you can have a Close Enough representation of the sunglasses you now see on the trailer.

I found these pair of sunglasses at TARGET for $16.99. They are sturdy and I noticed they have a good top brace that looks like the Oliver Peoples. In person the lenses even look charcoal!

But what's that you say? David, can't you see the extra bridge that the Oliver ones do not have...ah, but that is where your dremel comes in.

Carefully cut away using a small cutting disk and be sure to use the abrasive edge to buff away any sharp points left over. Should take you no more than five minutes.

Well, I could make it more complicated than that but there you have it! Have fun...

:)) Have been watching the pictures before reading it. And have been very curious, where the Dremel may be seen in QoS.

well maybe Bond is Becoming more skilled with power tools..

As in Casino royale he used a nail gun to dispatch of an enemy ... now its a dremel.

next it will be a leaf blower LOL

Great tip. I found a pair of sunglasses at Kohls last year that look almost identical to Persol 2298s, which i like slightly better than the 2244s from CR. $15.99

This was the dremel tool used in the movie to explain why the tip of his finger is gone...:s

    Hi all! My first post...

Mantis, any idea where I can purchase these Mossimo glasses online? I live in Australia, and the Target stores we have here don't stock the Mossimo brand. I've done a bit of a Google / eBay search but had no luck with either. Many thanks! :)

I don't know about Australia, but I saw a pair of these sunglasses in Tesco's here in the UK.

I think Myer (and maybe david jones..) stock Mossimo - there might even be mossimo stores in Australia.

Hey Mantis - I have to say - you are getting VERY good at the James Bond on a budget.... stopped by Target yesterday in NJ and picked up an exact pair of the Mossimo's - I have a guy in our machine shop (nutritional manufacturing company) who was nice enough to use his dremel (no finger cutting) and I now have the same glasses!

one note: for everyone tracking these down - the glasses are meant for a large face, so be forewarned.

Thanks Sharpe, I had a look in a couple of Myer stores, which did stock Mossimo glasses, but not this style unfortunately.

jgw007, I think I'll take your advice. I have more of a narrow than wide face, and don't think these would look any good on me anyway!

Good points everyone...the orbits of these glasses are larger than the Airman's and need a solid face to support them!

just wanted to let you guys know that after countless attempts searching for worthy alternatives to the Oliver Peoples sunglasses D. Craig supposedly wears in QOS i've managed to come across these...

    http://www.fashionshades.com/anarchy-alarm.html

the silver frames with smoke polarized lenses for $75 look quite close to the real deal. my only concern would be their quality. if they were in the $25 range I'd just buy them and report back, but for $75 and the potential to be shoddy it just leaves me pondering if i should just put the $75 towards the real deal.

by the way it also seems that O.P. sunglasses are not readily reproduced as replicas hardly anywhere on the internet, which sucks but anyways let me know what you guys think.

I have just bought a lovely pair of POLICE sunnies. Very very similar to the OP ones, but half the price. I am gonna look soooooo cool next week on holidays wearing the following:

    Sunspel polo
    Beige jeans
    Stone linen suit
    Bahama arrival shirt
    La Perla (type) trunks

    Mantis (and anyone else)
I will take pictures. Planning to wear the suit to fly in and arrive at the hotel. Beach attire will have to be early holiday shots before I put all the weight back on (yes - I have been starving myself and working out a la Craig).

    Any other requests??

If someone else is not my opinion: Pics please !!! :D

I was at Target this week and they had 3 pairs of these, and I would have bought at least 2 if the lenses weren't the size of volleyballs! Ok, slight exaggeration, but these are big glasses. Oh well, I'll contentedly stick with my cr glasses.

yeah I checked those glasses out as soon as this thread began and decided they were just too big for me. i would feel foolish wearing them, the search for a worthy alternative continues.
