Casino Royale Tie

I think I may have tracked down the Blue Tie worn in the final scene. This has taken quite a few phone calls (inc Turnbull and Asser, Brioni and finally Ted Baker) and more than a little bit of good luck.

What I need, if anyone can help, are hi res pics of Daniel Craig from the final scene. I have some very nice ones of him in the 3 piece suit, but these are a special shoot and the Tie he is wearing is not the one on Location at Lake Como.

If this IS the actual tie - not the screen used one obviously but the same type - then I'll happily provide hi res pics of mine to anyone who wants a replica made eg Magnoli.

At the moment I'm 90% certain that I've found it, but without a clear shot of the pattern I can't be 100%.

The colour and lines match perfectly, but there's a subtle diamond pattern that the photo's I've seen can't show (distance, lighting etc etc)

Be good to get this one nailed finally.

Many thanks

Duncan

From that picture, yours is too light. And the small darker check are not contrasting enough. There is a great shot of the tie at the end of the Bond on Set book.

yeah, I can see what you mean. It was the light that sucked the colour out of the tie in this pic. Makes it look too pale.

Having it in front of me now, it's more of a petrol blue and the pattern is obvious.

I'll keep trying to take pics and try to replicate the same lighting conditions as the original.

If you've got Blu-Ray you can get some great stills of the pattern and can make it out very clearly. Sorry, but it is different from your tie. Dammit!!!

I will obviously be gutted if this isn't the tie, but I hope it to be the one.

Problem is, every photo taken makes the tie look different.

I will say that I'm more than happy to be proved wrong, I'm not after any glory, all I want is the right tie.

I'll add extra pics as soon as I can, that's why I ned hi res pics to compare. On the last ones posted, the distortion and 'noise' on the pics (As can be seen on the flesh tones and shirt collar) makes the pattern hard to see.

    All the best

Th pattern is pretty much as you see it there. I got it up on a 60 inch screen on blu ray. It is a slightly darker shade of blue with very clear but small black square checkering and lines. Not unlike the pattern you have on your tie, but not quite the same either I'm afraid :# I was sooo hoping that we'd got it too.

Try and get some pics up with it out of the sun, maybe it will photograph differently then.

photos look too lightbut could be the tie he wears when he arives in montinegro sitting in DBS etc

I must say it's looking more doubtful now. Bugger :(

This has been such an illusive item that I thought that the same maker, right year, colour etc would be the right one. Maybe the hunt has to go on and hope got in the way of reality - sob :'( - hehe

I must say that this is one of the things I like about this forum. An honest reply.

    All the best

I thought that too, and checked it out. But the pattern is even more pronounced on that one.

Sorry Duncan, no one wanted this tie nailed as much as me. Keep up the good work. It's people like you that keep chipping away that make this the best Bond collecting forum on the WWW.

can someone tell me the difference between the screen tie and this one?
    TZ0010102_XL.jpg

I can't tell the difference in anything other than color, and they have that same tie in steel blue. Also remember that Hemming loved to have things custom made, and this being the iconic scene in the movie it would be the perfect place for it. I read today that Hemming was the costume designer for The Dark Knight and had the Joker's ties custom made to specification by T&A.

I have been wanting a tie like this. Anyone have a link to a close enough (and not too expensive)?

The pattern is very different. It's also one colour but the texture makes it look like different hues. The screen used one has two highly contrasting colours and is more of a check pattern. It's difficult to explain, but you need to check it out on Blu-Ray. Everyone buy blu-ray now :D

this tie looks like more of a grenadine or knit. as Asp says, its pattern is acheived through the weave that produces the texture look. i believe both CR ties are more of a mini houndstooth check or perhaps a microdot pattern (at least with the tie in the final scene). i have a couple ties that are fairly close to the final scene tie (but are not an exact match)....the car tie has been much more difficult to get something that is close to it.

I think the CR ties were a mini check.

Does anyone know what kind of knot he used in the film? Was it a Windsor?
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
Good question. His knots did seem to vary in size... particularly in the end when it was rather oversized.

If he were keeping with his character of wearing his clothes with 'disdain' (according to Vesper... I honestly have no idea how that applies to Craig's interpretation, btw), he should have used a four-in-hand.

Brosnan's Bond definitely used the four-in-hand the majority, if not all of the time.
  • trdsupragttrdsupragt Posts: 2MI6 Agent
Yeah I had noticed that as well. The knot at the end seemed pretty large and (I thought) looked pretty nice. Definitely wasn't the four-in-hand though I think.

I thought JB considered a Windsor knot the mark of a cad (FRWL), would a Nicky or even a half Windsor be more likely?
Prince Michael of Kent usually wears a Windsor knot and they look enormous compared to the photo of DC.

This may expand your search a little.... just saw The Dark Knight yesterday... and I'll be darned if Alfred isn't wearing the exact tie in black. Lindy Hemming did the costume design for this movie as well, so it still leaves open the possibility that its a custom design, but thats a lot of effort to put into the outfit of a secondary character. It has to be 'off the rack'.
He wears it for a good part of the movie... this is the best screen grab i could find, not very good detail... in the theater it looked right on.

Too funny. I just came home from watching the Dark Knight with the intention of mentioning this very observation about Alfred on this thread.

    Cheers.

I received confirmation from my contact at Ted Baker that this tie was supplied to the costume department for Casino Royale. She is rounding up all remaining stock of these ties for me, if anyone wants one please let me know.

Should have about 9 or 10 of them (4 spoken for already) so first come first served.

    Price is £40/$79.99 + Shipping
