Actually the title, sounding all melodramatic about death, is encouraging to me in that it would indicate the duet won't be all syrupy, which is the only thing I'd worry about, really. I'm very curious to hear this collaboration.

I'm beginning a musical investigation. Mr. White (gotta love that! ) interests me, as I do tend to enjoy alternative-type stuff.
Anyone have suggestions as to which White Stripes (or Raconteurs?) CD I should start with?

but hopefully with White involved it may be quite exciting.
Now I do like Jack White, although he seems an odd choice for a Bond title song - not wrong, but odd. He did write the song so I'm not too worried on that score.
It'll be a major mistake if Arnold has no involvement. One of the reasons why CR is probably his best Bond score was that he also co-wrote You Know My Name which was also the main theme in his score.
Having said that, he also co-wrote TWINE with Garbage but did he ever make a full statement of that theme during his score? I don't think so at all . . . and he'd better not overuse the Bond theme this time either like he did during his first three scores.

Although I tip my hat at the talents of both these artists in their musical genres -this collaboration sadly sounds like its an attempt to appeal to a large market audience -personally I would have preferred Duffy -but however I am looking forward to what Mr White has produced -we mustn't forget he also did the music for a coca-cola advert once so he can do "comercial" stuff!
Loeff, White Blood Cells is also a good CD of The White Stripes from 2001. It has "Fell In Love With A Girl" on it which is my fave of theirs. Joss Stone re-did the song, and changed it completely in 2003, which I recall hearing Jack White was none to pleased with her version. Anyway, you'll get a good feel from that one as well.
I'm surprised to hear some of you Brits calling Alicia Keys dull? I don't see that at all! Is she very well known over there?

Yes, very. She's very popular, just not my kind of thing. She has a great voice, cant take that away from her, but her songs all sound the same to me and really dreary. Then again I'm not really into that 'big voice' thing - Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis etc
Keys has the right voice for a big Bond song .... I'm just not over excited by her B-)

She is very well known over here -but her soulful style isn't as popular over here as perhaps it could be ( I like stuff from Stax and motown myself for example Therefore appreciate some of her stuff.) - the more upbeat style of various R n B and Rap is popular -especially with the club scene - however over the last couple of years its been indie bands and a return to both guitar driven and then electronic music (New Rave anyone?)that has been doing better recently. Also people like Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adelle on the more pop music front (Using Jazz, Ska and Blues influences.) However don't take my word for it totally as I'm reaching my forties -so I may be a little out of touch!

Yeah- I feel the same; she's quite manufactured and dreary; not exactly an artist who's pushing the boundaries. But she can belt 'em out, no doubt about that; she's very attractive; and White can more than take on all the boundary-pushing himself- he's still really exciting. Together they're pretty much the best combination I can think of to do a Bond song right now next to Ronson and Winehouse.
No David Arnold, an afore mentioned dull-as-dish water R'n'B artist who I'd be hard pressed to name one of her songs (that kind of voice/genre all sound the same to me), one half of the White Stripes who I've never been fond of, and an Another Way to Live And Let Tomorrow Die title.
Hmmm. I'll wait till I hear it, but neither artist sets my heather alight, particularly Keyes...
Yeah- I feel the same; she's quite manufactured and dreary
I may be the only one who likes her, but I am used to being in the minority around here! If by manufactured you mean a typical "pop tart", you are definitely wrong about that. She is a classically trained musician, writes all her own stuff, as well as for other people, and plays all her own keyboards. She's earned her props, and she's respected as an original artist here. You guys should give her a chance. The song couldn't be worse than the last one, at least this one stands a chance of getting air play.
An interesting combination and I like it. That's right I like it. Keys has a great voice and White has had some songs I enjoyed, especially this one. Wikipedia also says White will perform the song with Keys.
I may be the only one who likes her, but I am used to being in the minority around here!
No, you're not. Although she's by no means my favourite female artist (that title goes to Alanis Morissette), I do think she's terrific. I think that she's extremely talented, and also very cool.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
I presume that Jack White is no relation to Mr. White who got shot in the leg at the end of Casino Royale!
There's another colour link, where Eva Green was in CR and then they call the new villain Dominic Green.

I do think that this will work out well. I would have been more excited if Annie Lennox had been signed to perform the theme song, and more curious to see what Leona Lewis could do with a Bond song, but I like Alicia Keys and think she'll do fine. (Unfortunately, I don't know much about Jack White, so can't comment on him).
BTW, Keys is good-looking enough that the producers might want to think about featuring her in the title sequence (a la Sheena Easton in FYEO).
Although his School of Rock lyric 'but you're not hardcore/Unless you live hardcore' couldn't be any worse than Chris Cornell...

YKMN is my favourite Bond theme since Duran Duran's AVTAK; it never fails to get the blood moving---immune as it is (like most effective theme tunes) to musical snobbery

A suitable bar for Mr. White and Ms. Keys to attempt to surpass. My discovery of The White Stripes has only begun...and my optimism is unabated {[]

I like her too Mo and I agree it has to be better than YKMN.
I burned a CD with all the Bond theme songs and some other Bond titles like Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but didn't add YKMN.
I don't know much about Jack White, but I love Alicia Keys. She very talented and beautiful, and I'm thrilled that she is going to be associated with a Bond film. I hope the song is worthy of her talents and, more importatntly, that it works for the film.
Just for you NP. I don't know how Bondian it is, but this is a performance of one of her hits from the Grammy Awards a couple years ago. She's great live, and this gives you an idea.
There's a rumor afoot that the Keys/White collaboration hasn't exactly been a smooth one. From The Chicago Sun-Times and excerpted below:
Dueling Over Bond Duet
July 31, 2008
BY BILL ZWECKER Sun-Times Columnist
Things got a bit testy, I'm told, at the taping of the Alicia Keys-Jack White duet for the new James Bond film.
A source at the taping says Keys was not happy with a number of technical details and initially wasn't too crazy about the song itself. She also wasn't totally in sync with how the song was being produced.
White, of White Stripes fame, had penned "Another Way to Die," which will be the theme song for the 22nd 007 film, "Quantum of Solace," again starring the latest Bond, Daniel Craig.
While Keys and White apparently struggled with a few "artistic differences," they did make history. This will be the first James Bond film theme that's a duet.

Interesting news, Hardy. Only makes me more curious to hear it. Sometimes great results come from creative tension---sometimes not---but it will be all the more riveting in the discovery.

Would have to say that I'm agnostic re the choice of Artists, but really hope that we get something better than the dire recent efforts. White is at least a bold choice
Argh - having been on holiday, I almost missed this news.
Hmm - interesting. If anything, I like the fact that its a duet, certainly unexpected. As for the artists, well I wouldn't have put them together. Time will tell - I'm hoping for something classy.
As for a good song title? There's always Bond 23 :v
Oh, her.... hmmm. A bit Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey for me, all swooping octaves. Never liked that song, her voice grates a bit and I think it's too tinny for a movie theme. Then again, Jack White throws it a curveball. Do think Adele would have been just the ticket with what I've seen of the film so far (in stills, natch) but she might have been too mellow and depressing. You don't want a song that overshadows the film.

Not bothered by the title at all, one way or the other - I'd just like to hear the song
