Cavill's 007-style Dunhill advert

Just had a look at this; pretty interesting.

In the run-up to CR, I had almost convinced myself that Cavill might get the gig, young though he was (is). Ultimately (and with the aid of that ever-accurate rear view mirror of history ;) ), I'd have to bow to Eon's wisdom in casting Daniel Craig, even though he wasn't my choice at the time. Henry Cavill was just too young. But he's getting older all the time...and it all depends upon how long Craig sticks with it...

I really think this guy is going to wear 'the tux' one day...seems just the ticket for those yearning for a more traditional bit of Bond casting.

At any rate, Dunhill certainly looks to be taking an obvious angle with the spot, and it might prove to be a crystal ball glimpse into the future :007)

Besides, we have to talk about something while we await the next dribble from the QoS publicity pipeline {[]

The "Bond Girls" on AJB have been swooning over Cavill from his stint in "The Tudors" and until I looked at this video, I had no real notion of this fellow, other than some static snapshots.

After viewing this Dunhill ad, I am convinced of two things ....

    1) Today, HC looks just a tad young for oo7.

    2) No reason he shouldn't get the gig after DC's run of hopefully 3 pictures - no more.

Just hope he doesn't have a voice like Harvey Fierstein or Donald Duck!

PS: Is Sam Worthington planning to do an ad for Aston Martin?

I don't know Henry Cavill particularly well (I've only ever seen hin in The Count of Monte Cristo and I don't fully remember him, and although I own Stardust, I am yet to watch it) but he does look very good in this ad, no doubt about it. By looks alone, he should IMO make an impressive Bond, although he's far too long. I would actualy argue that if Craig does three films, perhaps Eon should recruit a 'fill-in' Bond to play the role, until Cavill is old enough to take over. Perhaps that actor could be Clive Owen? :v That would absolutely delight me. :D

Oh yes I forgot he's in that. He's barely in it, though- you may not realise it's him. Top film, though.

I've only seen him in a couple of things- I wasn't very impressed with an episode of the Tudors I saw with him, but I suppose I should give it another go. Apparently his Bond audition was very good.

Really? I didn't know that. I had to look up on IMDb to remind myself what he's been in (apart from The Tudors), so I have no idea of how big his role is. I'm still looking forward to eventually watching the film though. :D (An added bonus is that De Niro, probably my favourite actor, is in it. :D)

I believe Cavill is still in his early twenties---however, though admittedly young, I think he could probably 'sell' 30. If Craigger does, say, four Bonds total (with the rumoured extra year between QoS and #23), that would put Cavill solidly into Lazenby's age range when he took the gig. Seems doable to me.

Poor kid...he was an 'also ran' for three icons within a year or so...Superman, Batman and James Bond. Always a bridesmaid... ;)

Yeah, Cavill's just the hero's love rival and just appears briefly at the beginning and end- not really a role you can do much with. He does have a splendid moustache in it, though, as I remember.

De Niro's actually not that great in it, sadly. If you don't know what his role entails don't let anyone spoil it for you as it's a nice gag, but he doesn't quite throw himself into it as much as he could have done. Still good fun, though.

Oh I don't know, I thought he was great. Different, but great! I wouldn't let emtiem's review put you off Dan, I'm sure you will enjoy! :D

Oh I wouldn't want to put anyone off the film- it's great. But De Niro just doesn't (and don't read this bit Dan!)...
appear to be able to play camp at all. He just doesn't go for it- I wanted to see him being wildly flamboyant but he seemed to be holding back a bit. It was just a bit of a shame- I thought he'd be funnier.

I guess this is where I disagree. I thought that he (and this is so cruel...Dan, please, really don't read this either!)
got into the swing of things quite well. I mean, it's not like you really expect him to be camp at all, and the fact that he was trying to keep it from his crew (and didn't succeed) well...I thought it was pure gold and very well executed

Cavill's 25, DC is 40. Another 6 years of DC (2 more Bonds?) and Cavill age-wise would be perfect. 6ft 1 and public school educated according to IMDB, 2 more pluses to play Bond.

I'd rather him than Ioan Gryffud anyway....
