Knife in QOS

Thanks to a reader of my site we can now add a new identified object to the Quantum of Solace list. In the trailer, a glimpse of a automatic knife can be seen, probably used by Bond in a fight. The knife is a black Masters of Defense Harkins Triton with double edge plain blade. See picture below for comparison:

It's important to first note that these types of knives are restricted and Federally regulated. Be certain of permissibility in your location including state or local governments and within your reporting bodies.

These are automatic knives which open at the push of a button. An especially important feature to have if your disability, occupation or profession has the potential of limiting your mobility or freedom to access a knife through traditional means.

Most blades are deployed out from the handle side like traditional folding knives and some models open directly from the top (OTF), and the blade is spring open assisted to a fully locked position. These are primarily manufactured for Law Enforcement, Military and Government Agency distribution.

Please note: Sales of automatic knives to Illinois are now prohibited (exceptions are made for knife dealers).

18 USC 1716 (G) (2) (1-4) provides this summary: Switchblades (automatic) knives can be shipped to civilian and armed forces supply or procurement officers and employees of the Federal government ordering or procuring or purchasing such knives in connection with activities in the Federal government; supply or procurement officers in the National Guard, the Air National Guard or militia of the state or territory of the District of Columbia ordering, procuring or purchasing such knives in connections with the activities of such organizations; to supply or procurement officers or employees of the municipal government of the District of Columbia or the government of any state or territory of any county, city or other political subdivision of a state or territory ordering, procuring or purchasing such knives in connection with the activities of such government.

5 USC 1244 provides in summary: Knives can be shipped by common carrier, that sale, transportation or distribution, possession or introduction into interstate commerce of switchblades knives is authorized if it is pursuant to a contract with the armed forces or any member or employee thereof acting in the performance of his or her duty may possess switchblade knives and may have them shipped to him and sold to him or her. The possession and transportation upon his or her person of a switchblade knife or a blade 3 inches or less is authorized to any handicapped individual who has the use of only one arm.

If you check around at outdoors or knife shops, you might find one who sells to the general public. There's a store here who sells the same Benchmade auto that the Air Force issues(I got one as a tip when I installed Dish at the supply office.;) ), although that brand is probably going to be more of a specialty store item.

I am willing to bet ... a nice copy of this knife will become available soon at a better price.... I am not a big fan of knifes in my collection...

My only Bond knifes being .. the dagger which Bond throws into the Caledar in OHMSS.... and Honey Riders knife on her Bikini Belt...

This would be a prohibited offensive weapon in Pennsylvania as well as other states I'm sure. In most circumstances we would not arrest someone with a knife like this but you never know. It all depends on the circumstances. Just a warning folks be careful! Looks like a pretty nice knife though.

Not too long ago at the big gun show near King of Prussia, PA dealers used to sell these types of knives...now you don't see them so it seems they are cracking down...
