I'm sooo damn happy for Spain. I love how they play football. They were my 2nd favourite after my own (Italy obviously) and I'm super glad to see an all-European final with Spain and the Netherlands. May the best win! I hope Spain does it, but since I like the Netherlands, too, I won't be sad if they win. So basically I'm just perfectly content at this point
I'm with Alessandra on this. Well, not literally with her -- although one can dream, can't one? :D -- but you know what I mean.

Both these sides have been fun to watch, plus we are guaranteed a first-time winner, which can only be good. Hard to believe, but this final (the 19th one) will be the first ever not to feature one of Argentina, Italy, Brazil, or (West) Germany. The oligarchy is broken! {[]

And, Alessandra -- since your home nation is one of the above-mentioned oligarchy, I can only hope that you hold it against me. ;)

So you want me to hold something against you?? :)) :)) Cheap joke I know and un-ladylike but it was too easy. Of course I won't hold it against you and I'm actually pleased about this (minus the fact my country isn't in the final :))). Both sides have been fun to watch and it's good to have a first-time winner! As I said, I'm rooting for Spain and Villa Maravilla, but since I like the Netherlands too, I won't be crushed if they win. So may the best win! {[] Now about Pulpo Paul who's been in the top trends on twitter all day.... :)) I think he's in an Aquarium so he should be safe?

Howard Webb will referee the World Cup Final. Webb saw off competition from Mick Jagger and Paul the psychic octopus, both of whom played an integral part in this year's tourney.

Loved the newsreader on Sky News trying to report on this story. She wore an expression that said I did not become a journalist for this. :))

So Holland are in the final. I hope they win because my mate put a £100 bet on them to win the Cup when it started. I'm not laughing at him now! :o

Woohooo!! Thrilled for Spain. They definitely deserved to win. The Netherlands were shameful in how violently they played this final, despite having a brilliant player in Robben. But they should've been in ten men at the very least from the first half of the game. Anyway, VAMOS! :D

what a dirty game...even though I was rooting for the Netherlands, I was shocked at how low they played. I mean, c'mon...dirty tricks are never the way to go.

Well, I'm Dutch, so congratulations to Spain on their victory.

The referee completely killed the game though.

A dull nasty game that picked up towards the end. The runner-up game was a cracker.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on why you think the ref killed the game..?..IMO, he was over-lenient and should have sent off two Dutch players in the first half....I thought he gave you a better than fair chance....I wanted the Netherlands to win, their football down the years has been sensational and they would have deserved to win....BUT...I'm not sure whom played in Orange last night...?...they only seemed to want to stop Spain from playing...and that certainly isn't what I've come to admire about the way the Dutch play football....

    Congratulations to Spain..

    Now get Torres fit X-(

Mystified by the acclaim afforded to the Spanish side. ?:) They scored 8 goals in 7 matches. Germany managed that in two. They also close down teams so well even good footballing teams struggle. Witness how they dealt with the Germans. No wonder the Dutch resorted to kicking the hell out of them.

Yes - but they won, and thats quite important :D

Yes Germany did....and they look a force to be reckoned with in the coming years....but they lost, to the better side, when it mattered....
Well...the Dutch could have tried to play football...especially if you think that Spain aren't that good...or did you mean that Spain are a good side, just over-hyped..?..the meaning to the written word can be difficult to determine sometimes :#

The Spanish are the best side around at the moment, but I find them boring to watch. I just can't get my head around the press praising them for their wonderful football. They were dull in the semi and even duller in the final. Having a matchkiller like Officer Howard Webb in charge didn't help either.

Well....I could say that it takes two to make a game...and the Dutch didn't appear to want to play football ! Spain certainly didn't live up to the hype....but I'm not convinced that that is their fault....you do what you have to to win....they played good football at times though....but it is difficult when teams JUST want to stop you playing....

And I'm at a loss as to why Howard Webb is getting flak from some quarters...?...I don't think he told the Dutch to kick Spain at every opportunity..?...the only thing I'd question about him was that he should have sent off two Dutch players in the first half....had he done so though, he would have been accused of spoiling the World Cup Final....truly a 'no-win' situation...

Well...I'm English, so I only have a very limited knowledge of this word :))

I think it means just scraping out of a very easy group of matches - in second place - and then getting battered by the first half-decent team you play :))

Great. Our best player has broken his arm. Craig Gordon is out of the first four qualifying matches including the games against the Spanish and the Czechs. We're f&$£ed again. :(
