I don't think the Janus Syndicate had any real legs, unlike Quantum or SPECTRE, since it revolved around a bitter ex-MI6 agent (with the help of some greedy Russian soldiers and arms dealing on the side) using Soviet Union military hand me downs to enact vengeance against England for some short-sighted profit. Quatum's ultimate goals are probably going to be much grander if they're already implied of being an extra-national global superpower of sorts.
'Alright guard, begin the unnecessarily slow moving dipping mechanism...'
Like Rose, I've been out of the loop for a while and I just caught the new trailer.
All I can say is "Wow" -- it looks terrific. Although I enjoyed the first trailer, this second effort really makes me excited about the movie: I get a better sense of what the film will feel like. It definitely looks like Craig has settled into the role and will be the somewhat more sophisticated Bond that we're used to (although I hope not too polished -- we don't want to move backward).
This could be even better than Casino Royale. Certainly the locations appear to be more varied than the interior of a casino, so that should open up the film quite a bit.
The film looks great, with its steely cinematography complimenting the mid-century-modern furniture and Ken Adams-ish architectural elements . . . it seems like after the cartoony, auto-pilot feel of so many of the the 80s and 90s films, the Bond films have "grown up" again, and that's just exciting. Love the fact that Bond can get beaten up and, with Craig's portrayal, dish it out. The girls look great -- less like boring lingerie models and more like beautiful young women. Although I can see they're leaning a bit more on formula this time, "Quantum of Solace" shows the potential to be a truly great, memorable Bond outting.
