The Big Bang Theory

I've been watching a pretty funny sitcom called The Big Bang Theory about a bunch of nerdy, sci-fi and comic loving, socially challenged guys whose orderly routine is shaken up when a beautiful girl moves in down the hall (which pretty much descibes me...well, except for the beautiful girl down the hall part).
The show is full of pop-culture references from stuff I grew up with (framed comic books adorn their walls, a Robby the Robot figure can be seen on the shelves and they play 3D chess just like in Star Trek) and the boys are constantly engaging in suitably fanboy activities (like attending a Planet of the Apes marathon while wearing chimp masks or playing Scrabble...in Klingon). Since they're scientists and engineers by profession they tend to overcomplicate everything, which leads to a lot of the show's humor.
Its a pretty clever little show that's about to start its second season; given my interests and sensibilities, I found it all quite funny.
Network TV has become largely a wasteland lately and this is the first show I've come across in a long time that I kind of like. It's on Monday nights on CBS and if you're into science, comics, or sci-fi, you may get a laugh or two out of it.

I see right now that I'm going to like Sheldon...and Howard. )

Sheldon is the man! Love the superhero tees he sports.
I just cannot believe that I haven't heard of this show until the DVD commercial was aired last week. I hope that it gets another season.
What nights does it come on? I very rarely watch network television with the exception of a few shows.

Monday nights on CBS, 8:00 EST. The show has been renewed for a second season. Have you caught the Flash clip yet?
Nah...they just fired the collider up, the actual experiment takes place in about a month. Just a warning.
Anyway...back on topic...
Plus, the blonde does zero for me. )
Yes, you mean the Halloween party episode? Yes, it was funny. Watching this so far, it is clear to me that the Sheldon character carries this show. He plays the articulate nerd so pathetically well. )
I think one has to have a peculiar sense of humor to really appreciate the program (or an extreme fondness for sci-fi & anything comics) because I can see where some may not warm up to it. It only took me a couple of views to like it.
I'm certainly tuning in to the 2nd season to see where this can go.
Why doesn't this surprise me? )

I've been following this whole collider business somewhat; the fears that it will bring about the end of the world remind me of a great Arthur C. Clarke short story I read years ago called "All The Time In The World".
Like Rogue says, if you have a really extreme appreciation of comics, sci-fi and science then the humor will hit home. There's a Star Trek board I pop into from time to time just to get a chuckle from some of the outlandish fanboy arguments that erupt over there. The writers of the show really seem to have tapped into that reservoir of fandom for their characters.
Given its offbeat premise, I'm actually surprised (pleasantly) that the show has hung around as long as it has.
Well, not all of us get to work with supermodels Night. 8-)
She's cute but pretty vapid. Clearly she's meant to represent the "normal" person's point of view (and provide a liberal does of T&A) but honestly, the funniest bits usually happen when she's not around.
