MR/Corgi Golden Gun

Is there any update on the Golden Gun which someone found on amazon pre-ordering at $199? I definitely want one but as you can't pre-order from the UK, I'm wandering how to get round this.

I believe Mantis was getting involved but can't seem to find the thread via the search facility.

Any pointers?

    Thanks Markus {[]

I want to pre-order, but a delivery address in the state is required. Can I therefore ask who in the UK has pre-ordered, and how.

Is there an American colleague who would oblige?

Here is the short story. I called my contact at MR, Travis Allen, one day to follow up on an article idea and was told that he is no longer there...instead I spoke to another representative of MR who told me that they are going back to R&D for their Bond props and would not release anything for at least six months! Six months? So, no Golden Gun in 2008 then? I was told that was a mistake. I asked them if they still needed my services and they told me yes, but they are not in any rush to promote or create "noise" around their Bond franchise.

Now that I have thrown enough chum in the water, feel free to discuss...{:)

Well at least it is just delayed and not canceled. It seems that they are missing a tremendous opportunity to release items to coincide with the hype surrounding the release of the film. Hopefully it will just be six months and not delayed until the release of the QOS DVD or worse yet, Bond 23.

In the US, a Varmit is any one of a number of small, usually but not always, destructive animals.

Fox, racoon, ground hog, prairie dog, opposum, etc. Also refered to a type of hunting for these animals.

Many are destructive in the sense that they can and will kill farmers' smaller animals, eat crops, and make a nusance of themselves around urban and rual homes.

I hate to admit it, but my brother TonyDP was right. Don't count on anything when it concerns Master Replicas and Bond. Tony you were right!! My apologies Brother, I should have known better. :(

Mantis, since your contact is no longer there and MR isn't rushing to get anything out,can you divulge what was being planned?

Believe me, I take no pleasure in being so prophetic, but ever since their (now aborted) merger with Corgi from a couple of years ago, I had noticed a steady decline in MR's output across all their licenses and some really odd business decisions.

First they decided not to renew their Star Wars license, which made no sense to me as that was something of a cash cow for MR. Then they made a lot of noise about their Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek and Halo licenses but in each instance they either released really low end products or had delay after delay after delay with anything even moderately high-end. They are only now just starting to fill orders for a Star Trek phaser that was announced well over a year ago - and initial reviews point to some shoddy construction and poor design of the components, hardly the kind of quality you expect for a $500 prop.

I'm sure that good folks like our own Mantis are genuinely and sincerely trying to make them see the light and steer them in the right direction, but I have little faith that MR's current management team can accomplish anything productive. If they couldn't even release a dinky little non-functioning 1/3 scale replica weapon from Halo in any kind of a timely fashion, how on earth can they hope to recreate some of those intricate James Bond props with any degree of confidence?

Sorry for the rant, but this latest news is just really disappointing to me and it breaks my heart to see one of my favorite companies reduced to this. We've spent literally thousands of dollars on their past props and I'm more than eager to give them more of my money, but the company really doesn't inspire much confidence these days. :(

I am not going to get involved in talking about anything to do with MR Bond props ... because every time I give my opinion on what is happening, I get shot down.... so I will leave it, at what my last opinion was, regarding everything, as it has not changed.. :))

but i agree .. its better that it is being delayed and not canceled...

also it seems to me that, the only thing we are all interested in really is, MR Golden Gun .. I have yet to hear anyone bother about the MR Dart Guns or Breather Replicas .. ?

Since the MR Golden Gun has been delayed, I have a lovely BOXED GG, latest SD Studios type, and Moonraker dart Gun, also boxed, both for US $5000.00, both in MINT, perfect condition. Will ship anywhere! vivlempereur@hotmail.com
  • Gebruder GumboldGebruder Gumbold San FranciscoPosts: 549MI6 Agent
Please note: I am offering the GG and Dart Gun as a package only. Pls do not write to me and A) ask to buy them separately, and B) ask for pics unless you are a serious buyer, and C) try to cut a deal on the price. I don't do that when I purchase items for my collection, and I expect the same from my colleagues.
    Thank you!

I recieved a email yesterday from Amazon saying the Golden Gun is unavailable. I can't say I was surprised as I had already heard the news but I let my pre-order alone as I was hoping they might relist the item with a new release date.

Anyone have any news? Has the item been dropped or just delayed? Have you heard anything Mantis?

Mid January 2009 - According to the MR Forum administrator, the Golden Gun is still scheduled to be released this year in both standard edition and limited edition, whatever that means. It will be shipped disassembled. There are also other Bond items in the pipeline, but would not elaborate. The administrator went on to say that they will not be doing Walthers or realistic looking guns, due to legal issues. This is the latest as I understand it.

I only hope for the Golden Gun .. thats the only Bond prop I would buy from them to be honest .. and only if it was the same as the model we have all seen .. which was in the metal case etc etc ..

I am still wanting to see this replica released.. very much ..
