Blu-Ray hassle

Has anyone else had problems with the 007 BDs?

Live and Let Die seems just fine, but I've been through 2 Thunderballs so far and I hear from other forums that people are having no end of playability problems with the discs.

There's a thread on MI6 about it. Absolute pain the rear. I was really looking forward to these.
I can't find a place to complain too, anybody know?

I own almost 40 movies on BluRay and two BluRay players (a PS3 and a standalone BDP-S350) and have had no issues so far. I also picked up all 6 of the new UE Bond BluRays yesterday (though I've only gotten thru DN and FRWL - both work fine and look fantastic).

While there have been instances of certain discs being incorrectly stamped, most problems with playback can be traced to out of date firmware or issues with BD Live.

If you have an older player, you may want to check with the manufacturer to see if newer firmware is available.

If you own a PS3 and have it connected to the internet, you may want to turn off the ability to automatically go online when inserting a BluRay disc (the option is under "Settings").

FWIW, I decided to pick up the individual Bond BluRays rather than the boxed sets, which had very flimsy looking disc holders.

I'll be checking the rest out over the next few days and I'll be sure to follow up if I do run into any problems.

The one I've had trouble trouble with is THUNDERBALL. Check that one first if you would. It can't be just me as others have complained and this is the second copy that won't work properly.

There is many problems with blu ray discs - not just the Bond ones.
I am holding out until everything is sorted and they do a 22 Blu Ray disc package.

There really aren't any more problems with blu-ray than there were with DVD when it came out (The matrix wouldn't play on many DVD players and that was the title that really got people buying into the format)

I have the US versions of the Bond BDs and they all play fine on my PS3 (havent tested them on my panasonic as the US ones are region coded)

Cant find it. The jist of it was that some older player had trouble with some disks. Apparently the same thing happend when the special edition of Gladiator was released on DVD years ago. "first generation" players could process the info properly or something.

I shall continue looking for it.

    TonyDP is right.

I have only had a couple of hassels with my Blue Ray player - it's more like a computer than a disc player. Everything was resolved by downloading new software from Sony onto a CD and loading it onto the machine.

I noticed that the new Casino Royale disc loads very slowly. So prehaps it is time for another update!!!

Watched the first half of Thunderball last night and it worked fine as well. The only odd thing I noticed was that the sound effects were really loud compared to the dialog on the 5.1 audio mix but; based on some reviews that seems to have been done deliberately to punch up the original mono soundtrack.

There have been widespread reports of the Bond discs on working not older BluRay players and some PC's; according to some reports it seems that out of date firmware that doesn't support the newer menu features is the culprit. Samsung has already fessed up that they need to release a firmware update for their players and I expect other manufacturers to follow suit.

It is an unfortunate fact that BluRay has had some growing pains and there are numerous versions of firmware floating around. Being a far more sophisticated video format than standard DVD, the distributors haven't done a good enough job of testing their software on older players that may not have been updated.

BluRay also requires more effort on the part of the end user in keeping their hardware up to date and for the average consumer it can be a pain.

The upside is that the bump in image quality can be startling. The chess scene from FRWL for example looks absolutely amazing with all sorts of detail popping up that was far less visible on earlier releases.

I'm now on my third Thunderball disc, and that doesn't work properly - grrrrrr.

I think maybe a faulty batch has made it's way to Southampton. I've only got 12 Blu Ray discs in total but they're all fine on my PS3 - which is only a month old.

Still, on the plus side, the others look just amazing. I was really impressed with the quality of For Your Eyes Only.

I'm really looking forward to OHMSS and the Gilbert biggies - YOLT, TSWLM and Moonraker on Blu Ray.

Have you verified that you're running the latest firmware? Even though you bought the console a month ago, it might have been sitting in the store for a bit. The PS3 firmware is up to v2.50; you can check what you have via one of the top menu items under SETTINGS. If it's really out of date, you may want to update.

My brother watched FYEO last night, specifically the scenes where Bond and Colombo attack Kristatos' warehouse and the subsequent kicking of Loque's car off the cliff. I'd always been bothered by the fact that in prior home video releases the scenes shifted so quickly from night to day. The new BluRay finally corrected that so that everything now occurs at dusk.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing DAF and TSWLM on BluRay; both have lots of locales that should benefit greatly from the visual upgrade.

I went through DAD today quickly and happened to find that two ties i bought one Red Brioni and one Blue T&A are incorrect. :/ There very close but not the ones, i wish i had Blu-ray before so i would of had a better time spotting these ties out, oh well on the search again.
Away at Boot Camp, won't be back until April the earliest.

    FIXED!!!

Got the QoS PS3 game today and it contained a software upgrade - as was mentioned would probably be needed earlier in the thread.

All the 007 Blu Rays work brilliantly now.

    FRWL looks unbelievable.

You need to update the firmware for your player if some of the discs will not play. A lot of studios keep changing the JAVA encoding trying to prevent pirating. Anytime you have a problem where a new release does not play check for a new firmware version. DVD had the issues when it was a new format as well.
