After 2 viewings I feel slightly disappointed with QoS. There are great action sequences and D Craig is definately a good representation of a cold assassin, but there is little 'feel' to the overall Bond genre ( ie, where is the essential 'Bond, James Bond'?). I'm not one for lists but would but this approx half way - its a great action movie, but not a great Bond movie. Then again, similar to the comment previously, I thought DAD was good until Iceland!
I don't think QoS is the worst Bond film as that honour must still go to Die Another Day but it would certainly be in my bottom few.

I agree completely, this movie is way down the list. It had very little development to it. The script couldn't have been more than a couple of pages long. Now we have to wait another 2 years for someone to try to get it right again.
After careful consideration of whether I should include it in my list, I've finally decided that as it's an official Bond film it should be there. So it is, wallowing at the very bottom.
After repeat viewings: tippy-tippy top. There's nothing in this film I have issue with, whereas every other Bond film - even the best of them - has something that irritates/feels not quite right. Forster nailed Bond for me (probably alone on that island, but oh well).
Ends up pretty much where I expected, which is below the Connery Bonds, OHMSS, and CR but ahead of most everything else. Were it not for the staccato, seizure-inducing editing, I would rate it higher, but I think FYEO and TLD just edge it out. The shame is I really like DC as Bond, who gains considerable ground here to catch up with Connery in the number 2 spot. But Marc Forster's decision to keep the pace here spastic hurts what is probably otherwise a better addition to the series than I can give credit for. What does that mean? For the first time in years, I have no plan for repeat viewings in the theater. I say this having seen CR at least four times and then purchased the DVD. Of course, I will purchase this DVD, but only because I can pause it and rest my eyes when necessary.
Had it ranked number 4 the first time I watched it, after a second viewing it dropped down to #7.
Who knows where it will finally end up, but that's the fun part for me, I could easily see it fall to 8 next time I watch TLD.

The top half-dozen or so move around somewhat (in that grouping), but with OHMSS always squarely at the top - until now. If not for the silly voice-over quips it'd be more a battle for me, but they really dumb down Laz's Bond IMO. CR is still pretty awesome, and Connery's first four rock. Moore's first three and TND (it just works for me) round out the Bond films I prefer, the rest are too much of whatever else to make the cut. Gosh I'm a picky eater. )
I'll have to give this more thought after my second viewing, but right now QOS ranks 4th on my list, just behind 1.CR, 2.GE, and 3.FRWL. I have a feeling that after my 2nd viewing I will like QOS a little better. This seems to be the case with alot of people.
On second viewing it cracked my top 5, just beating out CR.
I must also add that I can't wait for the opportunity to watch CR and QoS back-to-back, when QoS comes out on DVD, becuase I've been thinking I might just mentally combine them into one movie in my head.

But, but, what about the Daltons?! Surely not worse than Tomorrow Never Dies!
For me Quantum of Solace is currently at number four, just above The Living Daylights (which for me is an incredible picture until it hits Afghanistan, at which point it loses steam). I cannot see anything major wrong, really, with my top four, although QoS doesn't *quite* challenge FRwL, OHMSS or CR. Then again, I never dreamed another Bond film would knock OHMSS off the top spot so repeat viewings (which are essential for a film as subtle and deep with character moments as QoS*) may change this somewhat.
For me, at least, this is a new Bond era, an era I hope will last for rather a long time!
* I do know that some people think QoS is as subtle as a cookie-cutter bomb, with Bond little more than some sort of rampaging killing machine, who would no doubt chortle at such a description of the film. I respectfully disagree.

Indeed - some of the criticisms have been a bit repetitive. Then again, it is an uncompromising film as you say, so I suppose it is to be expected. Moreover, Die Another Day was fairly well maligned not long after its release (although quite popular with the general public, if I recall), so it must have been tough to have been a Brosnan fan in those days.
Still, for the rest of us (albeit in a slight minority around here!), the new era is the gift that keeps on giving. {[]
