Bond ties

Now that I just got the GE tie, I got the sense I was really starting a collection (whereas my initial quest was just to get the TWINE q-boat tie).

Here's the ones I have so far, to give everyone an idea of how they all look as worn (I tried to match the shirt colors too).

bondtiesan4.jpg

1) GE tie from tank chase
2) TND hamburg tie
3) TWINE bilbao tie
4) TWINE boat-chase tie

1, 2, & 4 are from Magnoli, while the #3 is from Turnbull & Asser (they can still make it on request as its part of their standard line).

The just-released GE tie is superb. From ~6 feet away, it looks EXACTLY like the movie tie. But once you get closer, you start to notice all sorts of details that were present on the original tie but not captured on film.

P.S. I'm thinking of pursuing the TND copper tie with Magnoli in the near future... if I can get some good pics from someone who has the tie or after the movie comes out on Blu-Ray. Stay tuned! :)

Nice pics, I still want that T&A Black tie but no one seems to care anymore with the project.

Wasn't Mantis involved in ordering a batch?

They limited me to three and then the factory closed for the summer, pushed the delivery and just received weeks ago. The T&A rep said the fabrics are running out but if you want to order one call the NYC store and ask for Felix. The tie will run you about $160 delivered to your door.

What exactly do i tell him, how did you describe it?

Just ask him you're interested in the black herringbone tie, and show him a closeup pic of the tie so he knows which one you're referring to (they also make a herringbone tie on a smaller scale, so you don't want to get them confused).

I would avoid mentioning Bond... its true T&A NY are more friendly about it but for the sake of being taken more seriously as a customer I would advise not to.
  • Monza860Monza860 USPosts: 501MI6 Agent
But if im placing an order over the phone i cant show him the pic. I have seen the smaller scale one and its nice but of course i prefer the bigger one. I guess ill just tell him the bigger scale herringbone.

Ask him if he has an email when you talk to him over the phone. :) I'll send you a pic of the fabric if you need.

    Ok that works, thanks.

The shirts are from Jermyn St, but are Charles Tyrwhitt not T&A. :) I agree the collars are very similar, and go well with the bond ties (or ties in general).

I'm definitely game - lets wait for TND to come out on bluray first. There's really no great shots of it at the moment (believe me I've looked), so rather than do a halfass job and kick ourselves later when we see it in bluray, let's just sit tight for now. :)

The "best detailed" photo I've found so far is on "The Making of Tomorrow Never Dies", by Garth Pearce, pag. 101. The colors look to me like copper with navy blue, I remember reading somewhere about this tie being copper and black, but it definitely looks like navy blue to me.

BTW, I live about 30 min. away from Bilbao and I'm looking locally for photos of the three days they spent shooting in Bilbao. I'm contacting local newspapers who sent their own photographers to the shooting, Spanish photography agencies, etc. One of them has told me so far that they're in the process of getting all of their photos digitalized, and that once they're done with it in about 6 months, they don't see any problem with letting me access those photoss. You know, I'm still not convinced that the tie is black...

I'll let you know as soon as I start getting the photos.

BTW, sorry about my English, not even close to what I'd like it to be.

Ok guys hope you can help?

Does anyone know what type and how to tie the knots that Craig currently sports. They always look so neat and precise, much better than my efforts! The crease just below the knot is always centred exactly.
  • satanamasatanama SPAINPosts: 59MI6 Agent
Asp9mm: No, they aren't exactly diamonds. If you have a look at the photo I mention in my earlier post you'll see it by yourself since the tie pattern is pretty well detailed, and once we've got the pattern we only need to agree on the colors, copper and (navy)blue.

Urhash: have you seen this photo I mention above? if so, what do you think of it? BTW, it's taken by Keith Hamshere, and all I've been able to find out about him is that he's a member of Eon Productions and has done Still Photography for James Bond Films for the Publicity Department.

Avekev: as of the tie knot, it doesn't look neither like a windsor or a half windsor, and I'd say it isn't a four-in-half either. Maybe a Pratt? But having said this, the tie knot DC is wearing at the QoS New York Premiere is clearly a four-in-hand.

Yes, I do, but I don't think that scanning the photo will be of any use since it's a bit darkish, you know, although the pattern can be seen quite clearly.

    Thanks Pal!

All I need to do now is start practicing!

Does anyone know which tie Craig is wearing in the last scene of QOS, when he's in Russia?

I saw it and I thought it was one of the best ties I've ever seen, and I'd love to own one.

In the movie he wears Tom Ford and only Tom Ford suits, shirts, ties and sunglasses.

Alright, I've looked around on the next, and can't even find a picture of it.

    Any suggestions?

Your talking about the gold tie right?

No, it was a Cobalt-ish Blue and Black Checkered Tie.
  • Monza860Monza860 USPosts: 501MI6 Agent
Yeah I'm color blind, but yes I know which tie your talking about. Only way to get it is to go to a Tom Ford store and pick one up if it's even in there standard collection.

We already know this, the last three are T&A and the first was made by Sulka originally.

I've looked everywhere for mine, I wore it to death as it was sooo nice. If I find it I'll let you guys know. It was nothing like the one in the previous pic though :D

    Just to clarify;

Most ties that were featured in the Brosnan-era films where from T&A (Bilbao, Hamburg and Thames scenes to name three). The ties Brosnan wore in Die Another Day, are they all also from T&A or Brioni or its origins are still unknown?

The ties Daniel Craig wears in Casino Royale, are they all from Ted Baker or a combination of Ted Baker and T&A? Or are we just sure that the tie Daniel Craig wears in the final scene overlooking Mr. White is a Ted Baker tie?

In Quantum of Solace, all ties are from Tom Ford and no other supplier?

Finally, has anybody seen the new advertising pics from Sony Ericsson showing Daniel Craig wearing a blue-based chequed tie? Anybody know the origins of this? Go to www.sonyericsson.com/bond to see the pic.

In Brosnan's first three movies it was mostly T&A with the exception of the Sulka Tank tie and a black dotted tie in TWINE. In DAD there are a mix of T&A and Brioni and possibly others. CR has from what I believe mostly Brioni ties, a T&A bow tie and a Ted Baker at the end of the movie.
