Harrington jacket from QOS

Just saw the movie at a press sreening and it is great.

The navy harrington type jacket seems to me to be the must have piece from this film. How about contacting the people at Magnoli and have them work on something... I would buy one in a second... I'm sure others would do the same since a Tom Ford original would be totaly out of reach of most wallets... even the deep ones...

i would get one of those from magnoli if i had that kinda money :))

Btw, I emailed Magnoli about why the blue jacket is so expensive ($350) compared to the Royale leather jacket ($385), given that the blue jacket is just cotton. He told me it was the other way around - he had gotten the leather at a really great price at the time so he was able to offer the Royale jacket for cheaper than usual, whereas the blue jacket is about standard price.

Are you getting your's made in twill? I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product myself.

Mine is being made from twill. The original was supposedly made of a blend of mostly cotton with a bit of silk as well.

I have to admit, this jacket looks very good. However, at the $350 price for a cotton jacket; I would be much more inclined to get an actual Harrington jacket for $265 or so at O'Connell's clothing in Buffalo, NY as they have the ones that are made in England. Great jacket but I couldn't justify $350 for it. Just my $0.02.

Indy tells me a lot of the cost comes from the fact that it's tailored. He said even if he made it out of paper it still wouldn't be dirt cheap.

Go www.stuartslondon.com and check out the Slimfit G9 Harrington jacket (in various colours inc. black). This is a very good substitue for the real thing and far cheaper than both the Tom Ford original and the planned magnoli replica.

Was the the QoS Harrington actually discovered to be Navy? I remembered it being black from the movie. Either way stuartslondon.com have the G9 in both black and navy for £119 although stock seems low depending on size.

HOLD ON! You can justify spending $350 on a shirt, but not on a jacket that has more versatility and will get much more use? What's wrong with this picture?

I can't understand why people would get on someone for their opinion. His opinion is the shirt is worth it because of workmanship, or materials, or the tailor, or being unique. The jacket is not...And if all that was moot, it's still his opinion/choice.

I see your point but here is my reasoning. Magnoli makes fantastic products and is great at making quality replica clothing. What I was saying was that if given the choice between a Magnoli jacket or a Baracuta, I personally would buy the Baracuta.

I read an article about a year ago in which Carlo Brandeli from Kilgour was interviewed and he had some great fashion advice. Buy the best you can afford and when it comes to specific brands buy what that company is famous for making. For example...Want a Rolex watch?...get the Submariner. Want Levi's jeans? Get the 501's. Allen Edmonds shoes? Get the Park Avenue...etc...Baracuta is such an institution and has such a great tradition in men's fashion that I would simply opt for a G9 jacket over a movie knockoff (albeit a high quality one). Actually...a knock off of a knockoff as the Baracuta was no doubt the inspiration. So my personal preference would be to get the storied brand that has stood the test of time...and put a few extra dollars in my pocket. No offense taken. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but that sheds some light on my thinking,

Plus...The Baracutas from O'Connell's are still made in England. They insist on this. Magnoli's is probably made in Asia some place I would guess. I could be wrong...just a guess. Now, would the "real" JB wear the British jacket or the Asian knockoff? Just playing Devil's advocate here. I see where you're coming from though.

Actually, the "real" JB wore an American one.

For those in the fashion know, or even those who follow fashion the tiniest bit, Harrington style jackets are the new "in" thing, popping up from every maker you can name. Everyone is offering their own take on it, so if you like Tom Ford's take, the best you can do is the Magnoli.

Maybe in a few years, after everyone has a Harrington style jacket, having the original will be "cool". But right now, experimenting with different takes is a very cool thing.

Just picked it up, after taking measurements for the CR Leather Jacket I noticed they are exactly the same to this jacket so got it. If it fits just right I won't have to take a risk with the leather jacket.

Designed by an American and likely made in Italy. :)

That the Magnoli jacket is tailored is a plus, but I also prefer the QoS jacket in that it doesn't have the elastic in the cuffs or waistband.

I recently bought a Harrington Jacket, made by Gucci during the Tom Ford era on eBay (some of you may have seen it, or even been bidding on it). Imagine how gutted I was when I tried it on, only to find that it wasn't a perfect fit. I have been to Gucci on Bond Street here in London, and it has been authenticated as genuine and from the period when Tom Ford was Creative Director. It looks fantastic, in shape and cut, although not in the weight of fabric, it is almost identical to the garment worn by Craig in the film. Unfortunately I don't know how to post images on this site, and they are on my computer as jpegs, not hosted elsewhere. If you are interested, I can post the eBay page with all the photos, or of course send interested parties photos directly. I paid quite a lot of money for this jacket, and would like to see it go to a good home/villain's lair, and at the same time at least recoup the money I spent. It is a truly great opportunity to buy a genuine Tom Ford Harrington.

Here is the eBay page to look at:
