  It could just be a little habbit of the actor himself. Lots of actors and directors do this sort of thing, they have a reoccuring item that appears in lots of their films.

  I asked exactly the same thing after watching the film. The red thread is very noticeable. Quite prominent in some scenes in fact. I don't know if it's meant to be a nod to Greene's 'Right On and With It' status, or whether it's actually something to do with Almaric himself.
  
  Given how prominent it was, I'm inclined to the 'Let's show how With It Greene is' opinion.
