I think that coat is rather nice, just a shame its not in black... well found. am i right to assume that if you undid the top buttons it would open like the one DC wore?
thanks

Unfortunately not... had a look at one today at River Island.
that jacket is very nice, but what i'm particulary interested in, as you already responded, is how the coat would look with the collar 'popped', this looks similar but when lookin around town earlier today it became apparent that certain coats have a different material on the 'underneath' of the collar, as it where, making the wearer look silly, if he were to 'pop' the collar.
this one may be different?

The River Island one is a better "look-alike" as the Sherman one has patch pockets, while the TF and RI ones do not. The Sherman also has exterior chest pockets, unlike the Tf and RI one. However, both the RI and Sherman one have epaulets, which are not on the TF coat. If it was between the RI and Sherman one, I'd go with the RI one and then use it as is, or have the epaulets removed to make it sleeker and more similar to the original TF.
I bought the River Island version today and when the funnel neck collar is open it does resemble the TF version very well.
River Island have it in black, navy and grey.

I think it's the same peacoat as the beginning of CR. Anybody have any good evidence to the contrary? I've seen QoS (only) six times and I'm pretty sure.
I have the 'make do' peacoat that Mantis recommended but am intested in something more fitted and longer in length.
Also, I'm not convinced he has a suit jacket on under the coat. It's too well fitted.
Is there a cross between a peacoat and a standard overcoat without the epaulets?
Received my overcoat from Magnoli last week. It's a beautiful coat. The fit is dead on and the length was a bit longer than I would have liked (but nothing my tailor cant fix). Overall a nice a very fashionable overcoat that I will enjoy wearing. I bought it in pure wool, if you have the means I would recommend the cashmere. But funds can only go so far. When I get a chance I will try and post some pics.

Very cool! Can't wait to see the photos. I'm wishing I had such a coat today in DC as this big snow storm has hit. The one he designed for Gucci seems to be made from "heavy melton wool." What was the cost of the wool vs. cashmere? And did you get it in black or a midnight blue?
the coat is made out of a standard wool. nothing particularly "different" about it. the cashmere option was an extra $200. it has a very bare bones skeleton lining, which gives it a very razor sharp tailored fit. currently its at the tailors to shorten the length up a little bit. and i believe i had it made in midnight blue. the jacket itself looks very stylish and is definatly something you won't see everyone wearing this winter or next one for that matter.
Looks really sharp. I'll definitely have to pick one up when winter rolls around again. I can't tell from the photos though, but can the throat latch come off completely? I see 2 buttons, but it almost looks like it's permanently attached to the top of the collar.
The throat latch is permenantly attached to the jacket. Mine is a bit tight, which does add to the look, however i don't regularly use the throat strap. What is particularly neat about this coat is that its very versatile in how it can be worn. More so than any other overcoat I've ever owned.

Yeah, it looks like it could be nice for casual wear, but can easily go with a suit as well. I was asking about the latch since I know it's removable on the TF one, and like you said, you don't regularly use it, as would be my case unless it was a really cold day, so I'd just take it off and keep it in a pocket until needed. I'd like to see the inside to get an idea of the thickness/lining.
Don't really have time to take pics till next week. However I can tell you that the coat has BARE BONES lining. To get a razor sharp fit (which i personally prefer) i forewent the complete lining route. So, the jacket is not as "hefty" as one would think, but it depends what kind of fit you want out of it. An EXACT fit OR a fit thats close but not precise. if its the latter get the entire jacket lined and I'm sure you would be happy. It's not going to be a bad jacket either way.
As far as the removable collar is concerned. Thats a neat feature, I'm sure if you ask Indy he could easily work that into your particular coat. Matter of fact if I have one made in cashmere that would be one of the options I would want. Something else that you don't need but might look cool are functioning button holes on the coat. Not something regularly seen on overcoats. something to consider perhaps?
I've worn the coat over a suit and i usually leave the top two/three buttons undone. if you look through this thread you should find a picture of daniel craig standing outside in the snow. that is basically the effect created when worn with a suit and a few buttons left undone. as far as buttons are concerned all the buttons function. however if you fold the collar down you can wear it unbuttoned just as well. this look is also neat.
if you compare the tom ford coat pics and the magnoli the ford coat definatly looks bulkier. that is likely because the ford coat is
A) not a tailored fit (naturally)
i'm guessing there is a substantial amount of inner lining. (any TF owners care to comment??)
C. the material itself is bulkier???
I think the tighter/more fitted look just says soo much about the wearer and how clothes should look. in my perfect world...everything would be bespoke tailored But thats a ways off..

"it shouldn't be more than $795 in any case."
It might actually be cheaper if a number of people contact him for a group purchase.
Got those gloves today from M&S.
They are selling them for £25, they are 100% leather with 100% cotton (in red) on the inside.
They are really nice! Going to be wearing these this winter with my suite.

There is also a very good version made by Marks and Spencer but they only have it in light colours but it is well made. It's also longer than seen in the pictures on the M&S site.

only £40 , what a bargain , what do you guys think ?
where did you get it?
Quick update, Marks & Spencer now have the coat in black. I went down to their flagship store on Oxford Street in London yesterday and bought one. It is slightly shorter than the RI version, which makes it closer to the TF version, but it does feel better. Here's the link

Which buttonholes don't work on the coat? From the photos on the website, all of the front buttonholes seem to work.
